Creating a Dictionary

• We’ll now create a dictionary to practice using CSPro

• We will use an exercise questionnaire • IMPORTANT: You’ll want to practice working

with both dictionaries and forms• DO NOT spend too long on either!

Creating the Dictionary

• Select file new• Select “Other” tab, then choose “data

dictionary” • Navigate to the “c:\mics5\cspro” folder• Create a new folder ( ) within it, call it “test”• Then create a new dictionary within it, name it

“test” as well• Click “Create”

Dictionary Steps

• ID variables– rename the default “TEST_ID” variable to “HH_NUM”

• Rename the regular record “TEST_REC” to “MOD_INFO”• Add a record MOD_LIST• Add variables to each record• Add value labels• Close your dictionary (<ctrl+F4>), saving it on exit

Creating the Data Entry App• Select file new (or press <ctrl+N>)• Select “Data Entry Application”• App name “test”, using folder “c:\mics5\cspro\test”• Press “Create”• “test.dcf” will be selected as your input (primary) dictionary• Press <ctrl+M>: you will see “Old file name style” in the

lower left corner of the dialog box• Click “ok” to continue• Click no when prompted to create forms automatically

Modifying the Forms• Drag your ID variables onto the first form• Drag your variables onto the form where they belong• Rearrange the variables to resemble your

questionnaire• Add extra text if necessary (e.g., questionnaire’s title)• Save your changes and close your application
