The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:

1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between electrical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation.

In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accompanies the symbol, the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal. The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front door, and closing the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.

2. In the digital circuits, '1' is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal is "High", while '0' is used to indicate "Low". (The voltage value, however, differs from circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD signal goes on when '0'.

In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in the field. Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller PCB and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.

The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other purposes, and major changes will be communicated in the form of Service Information bulletins. All service persons are expected to have a good understanding of the contents of this Service Manual and all relevant Service Information bulletins and be able to identify and isolate faults in the machine.

Basic Operation Outline

This equipment feeds paper to the host machine. The unit configuration and pickup operation of the upper, middle, and lower decks are the same. The paper picked up from each deck is fed to the host machine via the vertical and horizontal paths. The unnecessary paper caused by double feeding is delivered to the escape tray via the escape path in the host machine.

Controls

OverviewItem Explanation of operation Reference

1. Pickup block Pickup control The pickup block picks up sheets one by one from the deck block and hands them over to the feed block.

p. 2-7

Air assist control The flotation fan blows air against the paper so that the paper is shifted slightly to lose attraction, preventing double feeding.

p. 2-8

Air heater (option) control

A left flotation fan with an air heater blows hot wind against paper to reduce the humidity, thus facilitating separation of coated paper.

p. 2-9

Swing operation The swing operation of the shutter moves itself up and down while a flotation fan blows air against paper. The direction of air blow against paper changes up or down repeatedly, vibrating the paper for easier separation.

p. 2-10

Paper surface detection

When the paper surface sensor detects the top surface of paper with the upward movement of the lifter, the lifter stops to keep the top surface of paper at the pickup position.

p. 2-10

Paper presence/absence detection control

When the paper runs out and the paper detecting lever of the pickup roller assembly moves past the deck paper presence/absence sensor, the host machine indicates the absence of paper on its control panel.

p. 2-11

2. Feed block Feed control Paper fed from each deck is fed to the host machine via the vertical and horizontal paths.

p. 2-11

Double feed detection control (Option)

The double feeding sensor mounted on the horizontal path emits ultrasonic sounds like burst and judges whether double feeding occurs or not according to the echo level.

p. 2-13

Item Explanation of operation Reference3. Compartment Deck open/close

controlWhen the deck open switch is pressed, the lifter starts to descend. When the lifter HP sensor detects the home position of the lifter, the lifter stops and the deck open/close solenoid turns on to unlock the deck.

p. 2-14

Lifter control The lifter is connected to the drive shaft via a cable, and is moved up or down by the deck lifter motor.

p. 2-15

Lifter error detection control

When the lifter moves up or down, three types of error detection are performed, i.e., upper limit detection to prevent excessive ascension of lifter, lower limit detection to prevent excessive descension of lifter, and foreign object detection to stop the lifter to prevent the equipment from being damaged.

p. 2-16

Cassette heater control (Option)

The cassette heater makes the temperature inside the deck suitable to reduce the humidity, thus facilitating separation of paper.

p. 2-17

Remaining paper level detection control

The level of the paper remaining in the deck is detected by counting the lifter motor pulses that represent the distance of movement of paper from the lifter HP sensor to the paper surface sensor.

p. 2-17

Paper size switching control

To switch between paper sizes, move the side and rear guide plates to suit the paper side and enter the appropriate paper size in the user mode.

p. 2-18

4. Power supply block

Power supply The power supply block supplies DC power to the motors, solenoids, clutches, and other components.

p. 2-21

5. Others Jam detection The signal from the sensor is read at the check timing recorded in the host machine to judge whether paper is present and fed normally.

Pickup BlockPickup Control

The pickup block picks up sheets from the deck one by one and feeds them to the feed block. The papers set in the deck is held up by the lifter, and is kept to a specific paper pickup position. When the Start key on the host machine is pressed, the deck pickup clutch (CL101, CL201, CL301) goes on in response, the drive of the deck pickup motor (M001) starts to rotate the pickup roller to pick up paper. At this time, the deck pickup/feed roller and the deck separation roller operate to make sure that only a single sheet of paper ispicked up and moved. Thereafter, when the deck pickup sensor (S101, S201, S301) detects paper, the deck pickup roller release solenoid (SL101, SL201, SL301) goes on to move the deck pickup roller away from the stack of paper. Then, paper runs against the deck pull-out roller to form a loop, thus correcting skewing of paper. When the deck pull-out clutch (CL102, CL202, CL302) turns on after correction of paper skewing, the deck pickup motor (M001) drives the deck pull-out roller to deliver paper to the feed unit.

MEMO:Pickup control is performed in the same manner for all decks.

1. Vertical Patha. Upper Deck

For the paper picked up from the upper deck, the drive of the vertical path upper feed motor (M002) and vertical path lower feed motor (M003) triggers rotation of the vertical path upper feed roller, vertical path middle feed roller, and vertical path lower feed roller to feed paper on the vertical path at 750 mm/sec. The paper feed state is detected by the vertical path upper sensor (S001), vertical path middle sensor (S002), and vertical path lower sensor (S003).

b. Middle DeckFor the paper picked up from the middle deck, the drive of the vertical path lower feed motor (M003) triggers the rotation of the vertical path lower feed roller to feed paper on the vertical path at 750 mm/sec. The paper feed state is detected by the vertical path lower sensor (S003).

c. Lower deckFor the paper picked up from the lower deck, the drive of the vertical path lower feed motor (M003) triggers the rotation of the lower feed roller to feed paper on the vertical path at 750 mm/sec. The paper feed state is detected by the lower deck feed sensor (S004).

2. Horizontal Patha. Upper deck/Middle deck/Lower deck

For the paper fed from the vertical path, the drive of the horizontal feed (M004) triggers the rotation of the horizontal feed right roller and the horizontal feed left roller to feed paper on the horizontal path at 750 mm/sec. When the delivery sensor (S005) detects the leading edge of paper, the paper stopstemporarily at the entrance to the pickup block of the host machine. The paper is then delivered to the host machine after synchronizing with the operation of the host machine. The paper feed state is detected by the delivery sensor (S005).

Double Feeding Detection (Option) ControlA double feeding sensor (S009, S010) is available optionally to detect double feeding of paper. If the double feeding sensor (PS009, S010) mounted on the horizontal path detects double feeding of paper, it is judged as being a double feeding jam.The double feeding sensor (PS009, S010) emits ultrasonic sounds like burst and judges whether double feeding occurs or not according to the echo level. The layer of the air between double-fed sheets lowers the echo level. When a double feeding jam occurs, the sheets preceding the double-fed sheet are fed to the host machine. The double-fed sheet and its succeeding sheets are fed to the escape tray via the escape path.

Compartment BlockOverview

This equipment has three decks: upper deck, middle deck, and lower deck. Each deck can accommodate 2000 sheets of paper (80 g/m2).

Deck Opening/Closing ControlWhen the deck open switch is pressed, the lifter motor (M101, M201, M301) rotates and the lifter starts to descend. When the lifter HP sensor (S111, S211, S311) detects the home position of the lifter, the lifter stops and the deck open/close solenoid (SL102, SL202, SL302) turns on to unlock the deck. The unlocked deck is pushed forward several centimeters by the force of the spring. The unlock of the deck is delayed to fully press down the paper being fed, and prevent the paper from being caught in traps such as a guide, and enable the additional paper supply. If the pull-out sensor (S102, S202, S302) has been turned on due to a jam or any other fault in the pickup block, the deck does not open until you open the deck left front cover and remove paper. To close the deck, push the deck with hands to set it in the equipment. The closing of the deck is detected by the deck safety switch (S108, S208, S308), moving the lifter up to the pickup position

MEMO:Deck opening/closing control is performed in the same manner for all decks.

Lifter ControlThe lifter of this equipment is connected to the drive shaft via a cable, and is driven by the deck lifter motor (M101, M201, M301).The equipment changes the direction of motor rotation to move up or down the lifter.

Ascension ControlThe lifter starts to move up when the deck safety switch (S108, S208, S308) detects that the deck has been set in place. The lifter then stops when the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304) mounted at the pickup roller of the deck detects the top surface of the stack of paper placed on the lifter.A lifter upper limit sensor (S105, S205, S305) is used to prevent damage to this equipment in case where the lifter continues to ascend for some reason after the sensor lever blocks the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304).The obstacle sensor (S106, S206, S306) is also used to prevent damage to this equipment and prevents foreign objects inside the compartment from hitting the ceiling before the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304) detects the top surface of the stack of paper.

Descension ControlWhen the deck open switch is pressed, the lifter starts to descend to the position where the lifter HP sensor (S111, S211, S311) turns on. A lifter lower limit sensor (S112, S212, S312) is used to prevent damage to this equipment in case where the lifter continues to descend due to some reason after turning on of the lifter HP sensor (S111, S211, S311).

Technology > Controls > Compartment Block > Lifter Failure Detection Control

Lifter Failure Detection ControlThree types of failure detection control are performed during ascension/descension of the lifter. The deck in which a failure has been detected cannot be used because of occurrence of an alarm; however, other decks can be used continuously.

Upper Limit DetectionIn the case where the ascending lifter cannot be stopped due to a failure such as a failure in the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304), the deck may be broken. In order to prevent excess upward movement of the lifter, the lifter upper limit sensor (S105, S205, S305) detects the upper limit of the lifter position.

Lower Limit Detection In the case where the descending lifter cannot be stopped due to a failure such as a failure in the lifter HP sensor (S111, S211, S311), the deck may be broken. In order to prevent excess downward movement of the lifter, the lifter lower limit sensor (S112, S212, S312) detects the lower limit of the lifter position.

Foreign Body DetectionIn the case that small-size paper has been set on the deck and the lifter goes up with foreign matters or paper remained in the space, these foreign matters mayreach the upper limit before the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304) detects the paper. When this happens, the deck will be damaged as the lifter continues to moveupward. The foreign body sensor (S106, S206, S306) detects foreign matters and controls the lifter's upward movement.

Remaining Paper Level Detection ControlThe level of the paper remaining in the deck is detected by counting the lifter motor (M101, M201, M301) pulses that represent the distance of movement of paper from the lifter HP sensor (S111, S211, S311) to the paper surface sensor (S104, S204, S304). The count is updated during ascension of the lifter during pickup operation. The count is reset at power-on, where the power is turned on or the deck is opened to turn on the HP sensor (S111, S211, S311). The remaining paper level is indicated on the display on the host machine.
