Now that weve had our Harvest

thanksgiving so early in the year, it

certainly feels like its going to be a long

winter! However, it will hopefully not be an

idle one in the parish. By the time you read

this, the Boys Club, Badminton Club, Bowls

Club, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides will all

have started their autumn season. The Sunday

night Youth Fellowship will also have started

and hopefully the Friday Youth Club will have

a programme ready to run. You will also be

able to look forward to another Country

Concert (Oct 27th) and Pantomime (Dec 4th).

The mid-week Bible Study group will start on

Thursday October 14th at 8pm and run for 6

weeks (see dates below). I would truly love to

see more people making use of this

opportunity to delve deeper into their faith. I

    get the impression sometimes that

parishioners feel that they have to be

particularly learned or confident in their faith

in order to attend a Bible Study. In the same

way that people can have a phobia about

learning to use a computer, there is also aphobia about faith-based activities, even in a

church. I can understand that. I must confess

to being reluctant to attend similar meetings

that are held for clergy, for fear that my own

lack of knowledge will be revealed and that

Ill be showed up. There is one such meeting

that I havent been to for years because I cant

read Hebrew! Our own Bible Study is not an

academic lecture, it is not a place where you

have to sit exams or have any background

knowledge. You do not have to speak or

debate. The primary aim is to give you

encouragement to reflect on your faith, to

challenge you to look a little deeper and, if

possible to find a few answers. Do give somethought to coming out on a Thursday night to

    this group.

The Bicentenary celebration weekend wasabsolutely wonderful. The feedback fromall the services, especially Friday night, has

been superb and it was a real privilege to takepart. Our thanks go to all who helped with the

arrangements. The photos are on the website

and there are a few in this magazine to

    remind you of the occasion.

The following prayer was used at our

bicentenary service and was borrowed from

the magazine of St Marks Armagh.

Father of all, we pray that to this church all

    may be welcome.

Here may little ones love to come and young

people be strengthened for the battle of life.

Here may parents find encouragement, those

at work be helped in their decisions, the lonely

find fellowship and the elderly be affirmed in

    their faith.

Here may the doubting find hope; the

despairing find joy, those under pressure

experience peace and all who suffer illness

    know your healing touch.

Here may all of us be assured of forgiveness

and be challenged by your love, heard in Holy

Scriptures and faithfully proclaimed in thepreaching of the Word and the celebration of

    the sacraments.

May all who enter to pray and worship within

these walls go out from this place rejoicing,

enabled to live and work to your praise and

glory, in the power of your Spirit and in thename of your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus

    Christ. Amen

At the start of the summer, Aart and Geesjewere blessed by the arrival of their 4th child,Lisa. The family will be home for 6 monthsafter Christmas and will hopefully be visitingus in Mullavilly. Next autumn, we are planningto send a small team to visit with them inArua. The following is their latest update.

Lisa (8 weeks old now) is asleep while theother kids are all off to school and nursery. Agood time to catch up on news from Arua.Great news of course is the safe and quick (nottaking into account the 10 waiting days after

the due date) arrival of Lisa on the 22nd of June. She was born here at home, withwonderful assistance from 2 English CMS

midwives. We are very grateful to ourHeavenly Father for the people He provided tosurround us with around the time of givingbirth. The staff on our compound gave her aLugbara name too; Asianzu, which meansPeace. Our little girl was baptised here at thecathedral, it was very special to be welcomedinto the local church family and the world

wide church community during the service.

Carpentry & Joinery plus Brickbuilding &Concrete students have been and are still busyat various locations in Arua. The VTC was givenseveral contracts in the community. Thismeans more practice, more work experienceand a little more local income for the school.More over we pray that the workmen andtheir workmanship will be blessed, that

people from outside will recognise that theyare doing a good and fair job, so that our Godis given glory in our daily practice.Driving&Mechanic students are also gettingtheir hands on. More and more organisations

and people around the VTC recognise the skillsof our instructor.

Another initiative thats in progress is acomputer course and cyber caf. The VTCupgraded one of the class rooms and soon wehope to accommodate this business. Thecourse leader is a lady from Kenya who hasexperience with it and by renting the facilityto her the VTC hopes to be of service to thecommunity and again to raise local income for

the VTC to increase self sufficiency for theschool.

    So thats all for now.

May God bless you in whatever you are doingin His Kingdom.

THE NEWGLOSSYMAGAZINEThe new glossy magazine was very well

received last month and the Select Vestry

have agreed to continue this standard of

publicationwith 5 editions per year .Obviously, it is considerably more expensive

than a photocopy. We considered both

subscriptions and sponsorship as a way of

financing the magazine and agreed to seek

sponsors. If you would like to be associated

with the sponsors, please contact Ian Milne.
