OILS & FATS AGRICULTURE /COMMERCIAL FARMING

The Mukwano Group is actively involved in large scale commercial agriculture and oil seed development projects. Our agricultural activities are concentrated in Kiryandongo District in Western region and the Lango sub-region in Northern Uganda.

Our 4,000-acre farm in Kiryadongo produces raw materials such as sunflower, maize, oil palm and soyabean for the processing plants in Lira.

The farm has gained local and regional reputation

as a successful agricultural model unit where technological transfer and use of the latest equipment is boosting commercial agriculture in Uganda.

A partnership with over 72,000 rural smallholder farmers in the Lango sub region was developed, facilitating them to grow oil seed crops through provision of affordable seeds, farm inputs and technical know-how, resulting in a 400% increase in oil seed production in the region.

In January 1993, Rwenzori Commodities limited started its operations in Kabarole and Kyenjojo districts in Western Uganda by rehabilitating and planting 2790 hectares of tea (seedlings and Clonal) out of 5700 hectares of land.

Buzirasagama, Hiima, Munobwa and Kigumba Tea factories were built with a capacity of 220,000 Green Leaf or 53,000kg Made Tea per day.

At Hiima and Kigumba there are two lines of Orthodox Tea manufacturing units with a production capacity of 20,000Kg Green leaf or 4,000 Made Tea per day.

Green Tea, which contains high levels of anti-oxidants, is Rwenzori Commodities’ new product produced at the Kigumba factory with a production capacity of 1000Kg green leaf or 250 kg Made Tea per day.
