Introduction

The MTN Virtual top-Up service, or M.Charge as it is commonly known, introduces a new revolutionary way of recharging MTN Prepaid subscribers’ Airtime Accounts.

The M.Charge System will enable you to vend Airtime to Prepaid subscribers using your own handset or the M.Charge web interface and your M.Charge Enabled SIM as a sales device.

This M.Charge SIM will allow you to send very specific instructions, using specially designed SMS, to the M.Charge System from your handset or the M.Charge web interface and the M.Charge System will then execute these instructions.

The M.Charge SIM has a menu structure that contains many different transactions that you can select from. You only need to select the desired transaction type and your M.Charge SIM will send an instruction to the M.Charge System.

Once the M.Charge System has executed the transaction you will receive a special SMS to confirm that the transaction has been completed. Note that these SMS’s are all free.

Who is it for?

How will it be distributed?

Distributor: A person who has a contract with MTN to purchase virtual airtime in bulk format from MTN and then sell same to any other registered Vendors. A Distributor owns the virtual airtime in his VTU Account(s).

Vendor: A person who has a contract with a Distributor to purchase virtual airtime from him/her and then vend this virtual airtime directly to subscribers. A Vendor owns the virtual airtime in his VTU Account. A Vendor has no contractual relationship with MTN.

Agent: A person who is in the employ of his principal and vends virtual airtime to subscribers from the Agent’s Vending Account on behalf of his principal. A principal can either be

a Distributor. An Agent does not own the Vending Account or the virtual airtime in it.

Delegate: A person who is in the employ of his principal and transfers virtual airtime to other VTU Users from his principal’s Transfer Account on behalf of his principal. A Delegate does not own the Transfer Account or the virtual airtime in it.

How the M.Charge system works: The M.Charge system contains two types of accounts: a Transfer Account (TA) and a Vending Account (VA).

Transfer Accounts: A TA can have other TA’s and VA’s linked to it as sub-ordinate accounts. A TA can only transfer the monetary value to another TA’s or VA’s. A TA cannot transfer virtual airtime to prepaid subscribers’ accounts. The transferring of virtual airtime from one TA to another TA or VA is called a “transfer transaction” and these do not have restrictions on expiry dates

Vending Accounts: A VA can only vend virtual airtime to prepaid subscribers’ accounts. The transferring of virtual airtime from a VA to a prepaid subscriber is called a “vending transaction” and is subject to expiry days on specific promotions/recharge denominations.

I have my banking applications loaded on my current SIM but also want to download the M.Charge application. Can I do this? Answer: Yes, you can have up to 2 banking applications loaded and still have space to download M.Charge. Will the M.Charge application affect my MTN Banking application? Answer: No. I have registered successfully but when I go into the M.Charge menu it says “Please call 083 123 9123 to register”. Answer: Please call the helpdesk on 083 123 9123 and explain to the agent the error that you are seeing. The agent will attempt to re-load the application (the process is called a “VTU SIM swap”) whereby you will receive a new AA and asked to enter a new VTU PIN number. Thereafter the SIM should work – if it does not the CS agent will escalate to the engineers who will resolve the problem. Will all airtime be sold via M.Charge only? Answer: No, physical and logical vouchers will still be available but it is the intention of M.Charge to replace these. Can I use the same number for my VTU PIN number that I use when I switch my phone on? Answer: No, due to security reasons it is advisable not to use the same for your SIM PIN and your VTU PIN number. How many M.Charge accounts can I have? Answer: You are only allowed one M.Charge wallet per SIM. If you want to extend your business and employ people below you then you must speak to one of the consultants by calling 083123WOZA (0831239692).

Can I transfer airtime from my VA to another VA? Answer: No I have done a VEND (sold some airtime) – how do I know if the VEND was successful? Answer: For every transaction you do on M.Charge both you and the person receiving the airtime will each receive an SMS confirming if the transaction was successful or not. What do I do if I do not get the confirmation SMS? Answer: You can use the “Last Trans Enq” on the M.Charge menu to confirm the status of the last transaction. You will receive an SMS with the details of the last transaction. If the details are not the same, then you can safely say that the last transaction was not successful and you can try another vend. If you still do not get an SMS, please call the helpdesk from the M.Charge menu and communicate the problem to the agent. I vended airtime to the wrong prepaid account – what do I do? Answer: Unfortunately this airtime is not reversible. What is the function of the helpdesk? Answer: It is a special helpdesk to assist registered users of M.Charge. The helpdesk can assist with queries, lost or stolen cards, account de-registration, etc. How do I call the helpdesk and what is the cost of this call? Answer: You can call the helpdesk from your M.Charge menu. This call is free. I have lost my SIM or my SIM has been stolen. What do I do and is the money in my TA or VA safe?

MTN M.Charge

Designed by MTN Training

15

Answer: The money in your TA or VA is safe so long as you have not given your VTU PIN number to anyone. You can call the helpdesk and they will suspend your M.Charge account immediately so that no-one can even access it. You will then need to get a new SIM and have a SIM swap done. You can tell the person doing the SIM swap to give you the same cell phone number. Once done you can call the M.Charge helpdesk from the M.Charge menu and they will re-activate your account. What are the minimum orders on the new concept? Answer: Distributor must have – R 25,000 to purchase airtime

Vendor – R300

End user – R10

Both Distributor and Vendor can use the VTU sim card to vend airtime?

Answer: No

A distributor must purchase a Usim if they don’t have one already.

A vendor must purchase a 32k sim and upwards.

If vendor wishes to un-link from current distributor is it possible?

Answer: Yes

The vendor will be required to request to be un-linked from the distributor, only then can the vendor link to another distributor. (Current process Call centre & Distributor)
