ONE thousand four hundred and eighty-four(1484) RDP houses in Zimbane Valley havebeen condemned to be demolished by MECfor Human Settlements, Safety and Liaison,Helen Sauls August.
She said this during her visit in an effortto track progress made on this project andothers in the OR Tambo district last Friday.
“All these houses will be demolished andrebuilt and a new contractor had been ap-pointed this year for rectification,” saidSauls August.
MEC could not hide her disbelief on thestate of the houses and the fact that benefici-aries had been waiting for houses since 1999and some had moved into their houses eventhough they had not been completed.
“These houses were poorly built withoutproper foundations; roofs are problematicwith no specifications and it is clear thatthere was no proper facilitation,” said MEC.
She said the new contractor is promisingto rectify all these problems and as the de-partment, they will hold them to that.
“We have hope that with the new contrac-tor things will be done according to the bookand people can no longer be delayed theirright to dignified houses of their own,” saidMEC.
The current scope of work in the project in-cludes upgrading and construction of exist-ing internal roads and associated storm wa-ter infrastructure, cleaning and mainte-nance of waterborne sewers.
On behalf of the new contractors, MMPContractors, Wantu Bugqwangu said there isa lot that needs to be corrected in the housesand infrastructure but they promise that bySeptember 2014, all that will be history.

DESPITE the drowning of three peoplerecently at Port St John’s Second beach, the mayor of the Port St Johns munici-pality vowed that they are more thanready to control the festive season in thetown’s beaches.
Councillor Danisile Mangqo wasspeaking with the Fever in an exclusiveinterview last week.He revealed that they had already em-
ployed 42 life savers for all eight of PortSt John’s beaches.Second Beach is notorious for its inci-
dents of shark attacks. Every year suchincidents occur and the Natal SharksBoard last year had even sent a delega-tion to investigate what the cause ofthese incidents was.Cllr Mangqo said as the municipality
they were well prepared but that thesuccess of the season also depends onthe cooperation of the people who arevisiting the PSJ.Two men and a woman drowned re-
cently at Second Beach. It was unclear whether they were
swept away by tides.Cllr Mangqo agreed that Second
Beach was known as the most danger-ous beach in the Transkei region. Heurged people to take care when visitingthe beach and said people should act re-sponsibly and also take good care oftheir children. He also said that as the municipality
they had conducted awareness cam-paigns on their beaches to make peopleaware of the tides. He said they are planning to build tid-
al pools so that people can swim in themand not in the sea.

THE Eastern Cape Development Corpora-tion (ECDC) recently announced that it haddisbursed a total of R56,4 million to 169 smallmedium and micro enterprises (SMME’s) inthe first six months of 2013/14.
Releasing ECDC’s half-year results for theyear beginning April 1 ending September 30,ECDC Chief Executive Officer SitembeleMase said the majority of the disbursedfunds went to businesses in the Amathole(R26,6 million) and OR Tambo (R20,6 mil-lion) District Municipalities.About R3,8 million went to businesses in
Chris Hani, R2,6 million to Alfred Nzo,R2,3 million to Nelson Mandela Bay,R435 000 to Cacadu and R89 000 to Joe GqabiDistrict Municipalities respectively.Furthermore, R3,4 million of the dis-
bursed funds in this six-month period went towomen-owned businesses, while R3,2 millionwent to youth-owned businesses. The construction sector was again themain
beneficiary accounting for R23,9 million ofdisbursed funds, closely followed by the serv-ices sector at R24,4 million and manufactur-ing at R3,7 million.“The financier (ECDC) is pleased that the
spread of its loan instruments is respondingdirectly to the social and economic infrastruc-ture needs of the Eastern Cape, making thecorporation socially relevant. For example,ECDC can confirm that the majority (60%) ofapproved loan funding went to funding theconstruction and infrastructure developmentof the OR Tambo region. The number of jobssaved or facilitated through the loan fundingstands at 538,” said Mase.“This is no surprise because there exists the

Coordination Commission (PICC) pro-gramme with dedicated infrastructure pro-grammes nationwide. The biggest backlog isin the Eastern Cape and in particular the ORTambo region. There is also themultimillionrand Accelerated School Infrastructure De-velopment Initiative (Asidi) with the great-est need in that region. Our funding instru-ments are also responding to this need andour loan book reflects this reality.”Mase said the ECDC balance sheet re-
mains strong with a net asset value ofR970 million largely driven by the high val-ue of investment property.“The balance sheet reflects the corpora-
tion’s assets, which show a healthy cashbalance and an increase in ECDCs invest-ment property portfolio. The property busi-ness remains ECDCs biggest asset, account-ing for R639 million of its balance sheet, while loans account for R122 million.”

SAJONISI Youth Radio (SYR) is expectedto start broadcasting early next year.
This was confirmed by the manbehind the initiative of having aradio station in the coastal townof Port St John’s, Simiso Shozi. It would not be the first time for
Port St John’s to have its own ra-dio station. Capital Radio wasbased there before relocating toDurban’s South Beach in KwaZu-lu-Natal.Shozi said the communities of
the Port St John’s and OR Tamboregions shouldn’t press the panicbutton just yet.”This long-awaited community radio
station is on its way. The only thing I’mwaiting for is a response regarding theequipment, but I was promised it would be
here early next year. All we need to do nowis set up the equipment and get the stationon air,” said Shozi. The radio station had to move from
Mthumbane Township to Jungle Monkeynot far from town. Shozi said the reason forthe move was because the structure in thetownship needed a lot of improvement,
which would cost a lot of money.“So, I was compelled to relocate to Jungle
Monkey and I have a letter in black andwhite which confirms the deal with Jungle
Monkey,” said Shozi. He called on the local business
people to support the initiative.“The station will benefit business-es, as well as the whole communi-ty.”The logo for the radio station has
already been designed and the sta-tion is expected to broadcast on 88.5fm.He said the branding had been de-
veloped. “We have designs for bill-boards, stationery and pull-up ban-ners. Our whole marketing plan isin place. SYR is going to broadcast
in 60% of IsiMpondo, 10% English and 30%of IsiXhosa.Training workshops are expected to be
held in January and February.

THEWomen inAgriculture and Rural Devel-opment (WAARD) hosted a farmer’s day forfemale farmers at Zandukwana location inLibode last Wednesday.
WAARDisanorganisation formedbyruralwomen farmingwith vegetables, poultry andpigs, as well as other types of farming andcrafts, like beadwork.Grace Matola, one of the members of the
Masiphumelele Project in Zandukwana, saidthe women in this location formed a groupand approached the Department of Rural De-velopment andAgrarianReformoffices inLi-bode for assistance.“We got all the information and assistance
from the Libode office and their officerstaught us many ways to farm, things we nev-er knew,” said Matola. She said they now have greener gardens
throughout the year and they are able to sus-tain their families through the profit theymake from selling their produce and prod-ucts.Nonyaniso Kutwana, Chairperson for Li-
bodeWAARD, said this initiativewas formedin 2006 to equip women in rural areas withfarming skills, to enable them to take care oftheir families.“We learn and encourage each other
through the skills we get from the depart-ment officials and we are also open to menwho are willing to join us because we believewe can learn some things from them too,” shesaid. She encouraged the entire community to
become part of this programmes to promotea healthy lifestyle and to alleviate poverty.Unemployment is rife in this area and agri-
culture forms the hub of the local economy. These farmers are also encouraged to enterthe national Female Farmer Competition.

Keep the fire burning in your houseThis is for you ladies of the soil; since we
love you we decided to convey to you what theguys are saying about you. Oh! Shame they arestarting to open their ears wide to listen atten-tively, no it’s not a bad thing actually it’s justthat this needs you to improve and keep thefire burning in your houses. What is it thatmake us curious kaloku?
Okay they are complaining about your be-haviour in an affair after you’ve dated for along time. What is their complaint? Bathi atthe beginning of the relationship you are soseductive but when the time goes by you be-come lazy and not taking anything seriously.Like if you used to wear those hot pants youchange other types and things for grantedwhereas men always need their partners to behot. They also mention that sometimes you goto bed wearing a golf shirt and that alone isa turn off to them.
Where are the hot pants you used to wearat the beginning of the relationship? Nizoshi-ywa ke nilibele bubuvila. Take this advicefrom gossip team, failing which uyakuliculaelakuncamisayo. Your partner will never beyour brother – he always needs to be enticed.HAWWU! Zatsho madoda iintwana zomgosi.
Do you get our point? Next time we will tell
what we heard from the ladies about the guysinarelationshipbecausenabosometimes theydo blunders. Watch the space we are comingback next week with our pens in our hands.
Are they reasoning in their ‘upstairs’?We don’t think these monsters who rape
kids are reasoning well in their minds. Wecalled them monsters because there is no wiseman who can rape a baby even if it is not ababy for that matter. This is disgracing thename of our proudly men on this world.
So, this taboo makes our gifted flowers -women to be scared to leave men with theirchildren even if those children belong to thatparticular man because they have changed to-tally. OW! It’s hard on this world. As a gossipteam we believe there is a satanic practice ifnot a witchcraft in this taboo. The fact thatthere is no hour passes on without a womanbeing raped on this Feverland shows thatthere is something wrong.
We had the astonishment of our lives whenwe heard that there was a six-weeks-old babywho was raped by her 24- year-old uncle. Oh!It is disgusting, how can that be? This needsprayers because it seems as if Satan is over-casting the world. Shame, do you know howto pray gossip team? Mmm, umane ubuzananathi wena ukuba siyakwazi na ukuthandaza, uyoshiyeka umunca izisini thina sibe singenasigijima e-Jerusalem.
We wish that rape case could be presided bygossip team ebezawukhomba umzi onotywala
