In this way the Eucharist becomes a school of inclusion, in which we learn to be at- tentive to the needs of everyone. Sadly, the family meal, this great symbol of togetherness, is disap- pearing in some societies. Food itself, the very sign of our sharing with other, is wantonly wasted in some places, while our brothers and sisters go hungry in others. The Eucharist reminds us that our bread is meant to be shared with all. May our families, and the entire Church, be signs of togetherness and solidarity for the good of the whole human family, especially during the coming Jubilee of Mercy.

tion will be available during and after Exposition, or by

At this week’s General Audience Pope Francis Speaks About Togetherness

Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing cat-

echesis on the family, today we consider the im-

portance of togetherness. Sitting at table for the

family dinner, sharing our meal and the experienc-

es of our day, is a fundamental image of together-

ness and solidarity. Because Jesus gave us the Eu-

charist as a meal, there is a close relationship be-

tween families and the Mass. The togetherness we

experience in our families is meant, in the family

of the Church, to extend to all as a sign of God’s

universal love. In this way the Eucharist becomes

a school of inclusion, in which we learn to be at-

tentive to the needs of everyone. Sadly, the family

meal, this great symbol of togetherness, is disap-

pearing in some societies. Food itself, the very sign of our sharing with other, is wantonly wasted in some

places, while our brothers and sisters go hungry in others. The Eucharist reminds us that our bread is meant

to be shared with all. May our families, and the entire Church, be signs of togetherness and solidarity for

the good of the whole human family, especially during the coming Jubilee of Mercy.

A Reflection on Today’s readings

The title, ‘Son of Man’ – adopted by Jesus as a subtle intimation of his role in the designs of God – comes from the prophecy of Daniel. Coming from God, the “Son of Man” will fulfil the great destiny of Israel, bringing all the peoples of the world under God’s reign (see Dan 7:13-14). The community that gave us Mark’s gospel rejoices in the knowledge that the Son of Man has truly come - Israel’s hopes have been realised. For the early Christians, this confidence raised challenging questions, that took some time to re-solve. If, in the Saviour’s Paschal Mystery, God’s final achievement in creation has been realised, what are we to make of our life in a world that seems to go on as before? In the face of this prob-

lem, today’s gospel re-flects the outlook of a community that is finding a healthy balance. Though it speaks with certainty of the coming of the end, it acknowledges that “nobody knows” when it will be fully manifest “but the Father”. Echoing the language of literature such as the prophecy of Daniel about the signs of the end, it nevertheless urges constant vigilance, lest believers be taken un-

awares – one of the themes of the preaching of Je-

sus. We know God’s final achievement has been re-alised in the Christ’s risen greatness; but we wait in faith and hope for our full sharing in all that Christ has promised. With Mark’s commu-nity, we place our trust – whatever lies ahead of us - in the one who said: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away”.

Sinner2saint app There are apps for just about everything and any-thing. Now there is an app to help people reach sainthood. It is called Sinner2Saint and it is described as a 'personal trainer app for your soul.' Depending on one's weaknesses, it gives guidance for one's faith and inner strength. It also offers tips to carry out an examination of conscience, or the so-called, 21 Day Soul Exer-cise. It is composed of prayers, penances, scrip-ture excerpts and a 'to do list' that can help users improve their spiritual discipline. In addition to the 'Soul Exercises', users receive daily readings, reflections and even a virtual halo. It is available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store and Amazon apps.

This event is a national and global day of action on climate change. It will be held in Adelaide on Sunday November 29, on the eve of the United Nations Conference of the Par-ties (COP21) meeting in Paris where world leaders will gather to decide on the future steps to ad-dress the urgent matter of climate change. This is a public way to show our commitment to renew and deepen our response to being caretak-ers of God’s creation. We will gather at the Tor-rens Parade Ground at 11.00am. Please bring your parish banner. It will be a family friendly, ‘whole of community’ event, concluding with a festival in Victoria Square. Further information is available through Heather Carey 8210 8210.

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

A reading from the prophet Daniel

When that me comes your own people will be

spared.

'At that 1me Michael will stand up, the great prince

who mounts guard over your people. There is going

to be a 1me of great distress, unparalleled since na-

1ons first came into existence. When that 1me

comes, your own people will be spared, all those

whose names are found wri?en in the Book. Of

those who lie sleeping in the dust of the earth many

will awake, some to everlas1ng life, some to shame

and everlas1ng disgrace. The learned will shine as

brightly as the vault of heaven, and those who have

instructed many in virtue, as bright as stars for all

eternity.'

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

R. Keep me safe, O God;

you are my hope.

O Lord, it is you who are my por1on and cup;

it is you yourself who are my prize.

I keep the Lord ever in my sight:

since he is at my right hand, I shall stand firm. R.

And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;

even my body shall rest in safety.

For you will not leave my soul among the dead,

nor let your beloved know decay. R.

You will show me the path of life,

the fullness of joy in your presence,

at your right hand happiness for ever. R.

A reading from the le2er of to the Hebrews

By a single offering he has achieved the eternal per-

fecon of those who are sancfied.

All the priests stand at their du1es every day, offer-

ing over and over again the same sacrifices which

are quite incapable of taking sins away. Christ, on

the other hand, has offered one single sacrifice for

sins, and then taken his place for ever, at the right

hand of God, where he is now wai1ng un1l his ene-

mies are made into a footstool for him. By virtue of

that one single offering, he has achieved the eternal

perfec1on of all whom he is sanc1fying. When all

sins have been forgiven, there can be no more sin

offerings.

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Be watchful and pray constantly,

that you may be worthy to stand before the Son of

Man.

Alleluia!

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

He shall gather his elect from the four winds.

Jesus said to his disciples: 'In those days, aHer the

1me of distress, the sun will be darkened, the moon

will lose its brightness, the stars will come falling

from heaven and the powers in the heavens will be

shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man com-

ing in the clouds with great power and glory; then

too he will send the angels to gather his chosen

from the four winds, from the ends of the world to

the ends of heaven.

'Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its

twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you

know that summer is near. So with you, when you

see these things happening: know that he is near, at

the very gates. I tell you solemnly, before this gen-

era1on has passed away all these things will have

taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but

my words will not pass away.

'But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it,

neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son; no one

but the Father.'

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
