Boutique Workshops Judy W.

OCTOBER - We made Fish Oven Mitts (I obtained the permission of the copyright designer). I will report later how many we made, but I had 17 cut out ready to go! NOVEMBER - Because of Thanksgiving, there will be no workshop in November. I know everyone is busy preparing for Turkey Day or are out of town visiting family, so we'll give it a miss in November. However, I will be bringing patterns to the November meeting just in case you want to borrow one to work on during any spare time you may have.

DECEMBER - The workshop will be on December 30, from 10-3 at The Vintage. I will bring a sign-up sheet (with directions to The Vintage) to the meeting. We will be making reversible aprons. Please bring 1 yard for each side (coordinating). It would be great if you could bring enough for 2 aprons each. I will stop by the Community sewing day and see if I can pick up some one-yard pieces as well. It's really terrific that we can get a head start on making things for the Boutique next year and I want to thank all of you who are contributing your time and energy to our efforts to make a bunch of cool stuff to sell.

Community Quilts Jane D., Diana L., Lora F., Jean M, Bev P.

The November Community Quilts gathering will be on Wednesday, November 12th, from 11-2:30. As usual, we will meet at Nativity Lutheran Church which is at the corner of SE Knott and Brosterhaus in Bend. Everyone is welcome. Bring a community quilt project to work on, but if you don't have one, come anyway and we'll find you one. We store fabric and batting at the church, so there is lots to choose from. Bring your sewing machine, sewing supplies, and your lunch. Contact one of us if you have questions. At the October Guild meeting, we passed around a clipboard asking if anyone was interested in attending an "easy machine quilting" workshop focused on community quilts. The response was a lot stronger than we'd expected! We are planning a workshop in November. Those who signed up will be contacted by email with the details. Since we won't be able to accommodate everyone at one workshop (at least 30 women signed up), we will

Page 3: Mt. BACHELOR QUiltERS’ GUILD

schedule a second one in the near future. Thanks for your interest.

Community Food Drive

Diana L.

Let’s give thanks and a large donation to the food pantry for November. Please bring any canned food related to Thanksgiving (green beans, cranberry, sweet potatoes, etc.). The food pantry can also use cash to buy the turkeys. Thank you for all your donations.

Programs Kim M.

During our November guild meeting we have our annual business meeting. Please come to the meeting and find out what is happening with our guild. This is a time to volunteer, ask questions and be involved. Since we will have some extra time bring your show and tell, we all love to see what everyone has been working on. Workshops Linda G.

At the last guild meeting, we asked for members who would be interested in sharing photos of their sewing rooms and tips on how they organize their stashes. The Mountain Meadows Guild (MMG) was putting together a Powerpoint presentation to share with both guilds. MMG has decided not to proceed with this project, so this is off the table. If our members

are interested in a program on this topic, please let Kim M. know. We had one volunteer from our guild, but would need more participation to make the program really worthwhile.

Christmas Party!

Pris B., Barb P., MaryElla S.,Kris L. Our party will be on Monday, December 8, from 6:00 to 8:30pm, at the Parks & Rec Building, 799 SW Columbia, in their “Riverbend Community Room”. Mark your calendar, for a memorable evening! We’re looking for volunteers to decorate twelve tables for our dinner. Although we DO vote for the best table and award a prize, please don’t feel intimidated. The decorations are really to make the room look festive, so just bring pretty stuff from your home – if you win, that’s a bonus! You can do a table yourself, or pair up with a friend. Also to make the room more festive, we want to borrow ten seasonal wall quilts from members, preferably quilts that were not at last year’s party. Large flannel quilts won’t work, since we tape them to the wall. We have again booked The Victorian Carolers to sing for us and get us in the holiday spirit. To pay for the singers (not in our budget!), we’ll pass a hat at the November meeting, for a $1 or $2 donation.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Our dinner will be a potluck. To give you time to think about what you’d like to bring, here’s the food plan by last names: A to H, bring salad/side dish; I to O, bring main dish; P to Z, bring dessert. NOTE: These have been rotated since last year. If you want to bring food from another category, please TRADE with a friend in that category – that way, we’ll still have a good mix. We will also exchange gifts ($5 to $10) wrapped with paper (not bags) – gifts to PAMPER a quilter! Like, chocolate, fancy tea, candy, candle(s), hand lotion, bath and body products, etc. – but not dollar-store stuff. Hint – Trader Joe’s has a whole aisle of wonderful chocolate items, and 90% of them are less than $5.00! Lots of stores have a few low-price or sale items (even Macy’s). You have a month to look around, check the sales, use your imagination, and bring a gift nice enough that YOU would like to receive it. To make our party happen, LOTS of things need to be done that evening – set-up (includes wall-quilts and table-decorations), member check-in, and clean-up. If you can help us do any of these jobs, please look for our signup-sheets in the lobby, at the November 10 meeting. If you can’t make the meeting, you can contact Pris or Barb, and we’ll get you signed up. THANK YOU!

2015 SOQS

Martha S.

Thank you all for your input at the October meeting. I have shared our concerns with Jeanette Pilak, executive director of the SOQS. In order to accommodate this concern from all of the local guilds, she has made adjustments in the timeline. We will still propose our special exhibit by October 27th. You did a great job responding to the challenge of deciding upon a theme! As per the agreement at the guild

meeting, our exhibit will be called “Ruby Celebration” and may incorporate some of the techniques learned in our “Little Goose” classes inspired by Gail Garber. Our final commitment of quilts, names of quilters, and pictures will be due on or before January 30th at the SOQS office. This is a firm and mutually agreed upon commitment that I made with Jeanette, no extension of dates or requirements. I am so glad that we will be able to participate in this special 40th anniversary quilt show and I hope you agree. Thank you for your passion and patience. If you have any further concerns you may contact me (see roster) or email [email protected]. Attached you will find the official ‘Call to Entry for Special Exhibits’ from the SOQS and this will also be posted on the MBQG blog. Please read it in its entirety, it may not be clear until you read the whole notice.

QUILTERS NEEDED! Denise M.

Quilters and sewers are needed to help sew ornaments for the St. Charles Hospice “Light up a Life” annual event this December. Handmade ornaments will be made for families who come together during the holiday season to illuminate a symbolic light in memory of a loved one. Ornaments will be made by volunteers who donate their time…and participating will provide a use for all those scraps of fabric in your stash pile. If you’d like to help, please contact Denise at [email protected] and more information, as well as pictures and directions, will be provided. We are getting a late start this year to make hundreds of ornaments, so any amount of help will be greatly appreciated! Please note: this is not a MBQG sponsored event.
