GAME BASICS Freshman Parker Grinstead scored once and assisted

Freshman Laurence Wootton scored in the fi rst half and senior Samuel Buzzas added a goal in the second to give the Buckeyes back-to-back shutouts over league opponents with a 2-0 win at Michigan State. Wooton's goal was the fi rst of his career. It was No. 4 for Buzzas.

Senior Joe Ortiz scored for the Buckeyes in a 1-0 win at Maryland last Feb. 27 to give the Buckeyes their fi rst win against the Terps in College Park in series history. The score was the fi rst of the season, second at Ohio State and his third career tally.

Game 6 at Wisconsin (3/19/21) Wisconsin scored in the 87th minute to claim a 1-0 victory over the No. 21 Buckeyes in Madison. The Buckeyes put fi ve shots on net but none found the mark while senior Ohio State keeper stopped four of fi ve eff orts from the Badgers. Ohio State owned he advantage in shots (11-8) and corners (12-2).

Game 5 vs. Michigan (3/13/21) The Buckeyes and Wolverines battled in a back-and-forth aff air to a double overtime 2-all tie in Columbus. Michigan scored fi rst in the 54th minute but freshman Parker Grinstead answered with this third of the season in the 61st. After Michigan went ahead less than a minute later, freshman Ty Konrad tied the game 2-all in the 75th. It was the freshman's fi rst of the season.

Game 4 vs. Northwestern (3/7/21) After moving the home opener vs. Indiana to a neutral site just north of Indianapolis, the Buckeyes fi nally opened the season in Columbus with a 4-2 win over Northwestern. The Wildcats scored fi rst but the Buckeyes responded with four-consecutive goals to win 4-2. Freshman Parker Grinstead scored twice. Redshirt freshman Sean Ryan and junior Luke Kiley added goals in the win.

Game 3 at Michigan State (3/3/21) Ohio State posted back-to-back shutouts with a 2-0 win at Michigan State. Freshman Laurence Wootton notched his fi rst career goal in the fi rst half before senior Samuel Buzzas tallied another in the second. It was career score No. 4 for Buzzas. Both goals were unassisted. Senior keeper Noah Lawrence record his second-consecutive shutout and seventh for his career.

Game 2 at Maryland (2/27/21) Ohio State won for the fi rst time in College Park behind a goal from senior Joe Ortiz and an assist from freshman Laurence Wootton. Senior transfer (Cincinnati) posted the shutout in goal, making three saves. The Ohio State defense help the Terps to just six shots for the game.

Game 1 vs. Indiana (2/23/21) The Buckeyes opened the season at Grand Park in Westfi eld, Indiana, in a neutral-site game vs. Indiana. The game was moved from Ohio State's campus because of poor weather conditions in Columbus. The Hoosiers claimed the win 3-0.

Joakim Jahnsen Joins Buckeyes for Fall 2021 Ohio State will have a quick turnaround between the end of the 2020-21 campaign being played this spring and the start of the 2021 season in the Fall. When the Buckeyes are ready for the start of the 2021 season they will have newcomer Joakim Jahnsen on the roster. He signed in early March to play for Buckeyes. Jahnsen, a native of Norway, can play several positions and will add versatility to the OSU roster.

Bergman, an Ohio State scholar athlete in both 2018 and 2019, played in 18 games as a junior while playing 90 or more minutes in 14 of those games. BRUNNER ENTERS OSU HOFEric Brunner, who played for the Buckeyes from 2005-07 will enter the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020. Brunner led the Buckeyes on an historical run in 2007 that culminated in an appearance in the NCAA College Cup Final after winning the Big Ten Conference championship. The fi rst Buckeye to earn First Team All-America honors, Brunner was a 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy candidate and a First Team All-Big Ten honoree in addition to making the 2007 College Cup All-Tournament team. A Dublin, Ohio, native, Brunner was the fi rst Buckeye to make the United States National Team (2008). He was drafted by the New York Red Bulls and played in 103 Major League Soccer games. As a Buckeye, the 2007 captain appeared in 89 games, starting 79.

NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE CANCELEDThe Buckeyes will not be playing in its annual early season home event, the Wolstein Classic. The Buckeyes are 21-14-7 all-time in the event. Ohio State has captured the tournament title six times (2006-2009, 2011 and 2012). In 2019, the team lost to CSU and defeated UIC in the Wolstein Classic. All nonconference games where canceled by the Big Ten Conference over COVID-19 concerns.

Siegfried Signed Parker Siegfried, who ended his Ohio State goalkeeping career in 2019, was signed by Louisville City FC earlier this month. From Granville, Ohio, Siegfried came up through MLS side Columbus Crew’s academy while spending time as a youth international on the United States’ U-14, U-15 and U-18 squads. At Ohio State, he posted 18 clean sheets during his four-year college career, good for fourth on the program’s all-time list.

THREE SELECTED IN DRAFTCC Uche (Los Angeles Football Club), Joshua Jackson-Ketchup (Columbus Crew) and Noah Lawrence (Austin Football Club) were all selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in January. Uche and Jackson-Ketchup went in the second round. Lawrence was the fi rst pick of the third round. The Buckeyes had the most picks of any Big Ten school in the draft.

MAISONNEUVE BEGINS YEAR THREEOhio State opens year three in the tenure of head coach Brian Maisonneuve in 2020. The season, altered by concerns over COVID-19, will consist of Big Ten Conference games only. The Buckeyes will have home games vs. Northwestern (W, 4-2), Michigan (T, 2-2), Rutgers and Michigan State. Road contests will be against Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin (L, 0-1), Maryland (W, 1-0) and Michigan State (W, 2-0). The Buckeyes opened the season against Indiana (L, 3-0) at a neutral site.

Blake Collins (D, Powell, Ohio), Connor DesRoches (D, Dublin, Ohio), Thomas Gilej (F, Wuppertal, Germany), Parker Grinstead (M, West Chester, Ohio), Ty Konrad (F, Naperville, Illinois), Peter Van Euwen (G, Avon Lake, Ohio), Deylen Vellios (D, Vancouver, BC) and Laurence Wootton (M, Halstead, England) will don the Scarlet and Gray for the fi rst time this season as collegiate rookies.

PAIR TRANSFERS TO OHIO STATEThe Buckeyes welcomed junior Sam Mason (M, Galena, Ohio/Northern Kentucky) and Noah Lawrence (G, Mount Vernon, New York/Cincinnati) to the program as transfers following the 2019 season. Mason is the second from his family to play for the Buckeyes. His older brother Zach played from 2012-15 for the Buckeyes. Lawrence left Cincinnati following his junior season when the Bearcats dropped its men's soccer program.

MAISONNEUVE ADDS MORRIS TO COACHING STAFF Brian Maisonneuve, head coach of the Buckeyes announced the hiring of Travis Morris as an assistant coach of the Buckeyes last summer. Morris will coach the Ohio State goalkeepers, plan daily trainings, assist with recruiting and video work along with helping with day-to-day operations. He comes to Ohio State from High Point. The HPU Panthers won back-to-back Big South regular-season titles with Morris on staff , with the team tallying its most successful season in its Division I history during the 2018 campaign. Morris served as the goalkeeper coach at Belmont for three seasons from 2014-16. Prior to his time at Belmont, Morris served as a graduate assistant earning his Master’s Degree in Sports Leadership and was a volunteer assistant over two seasons at VCU. He helped guide the Rams to back-to-back at-large NCAA Tournament bids in 2012 and 2013. Morris graduated from Bridgewater College with a Bachelors in Health and Physical Education in 2012 after a four-year playing career with the Eagles. He holds an USSF National “D” Coaching License and an NSCAA Level II Goalkeeping Coaching Diploma.

MAISONNEUVE AT OSU Head coach Brian Maisonneuve is in his third year as head coach of the Buckeyes. Maisonneuve came from Indiana University where he was associate head coach for the Hoosiers. As one of the top assistants in the country, Maisonneuve guided Indiana to the 2012 NCAA National Title, a NCAA runner-up fi nish in 2017, the 2010 Big Ten Regular-Season Title as well as the 2013 Big Ten Tournament Championship. Maisonneuve, a native of Warren, Mich., was one of the top players in Indiana soccer history, winning the Hermann Trophy in 1994. He spent nine seasons with the Columbus Crew from 1996-2004 and was a member of the United States’ 1998 World Cup team. Maisonneuve is assisted by Matt Foldesy and Travis Morris along with director of operations Chad Barson.

BRIAN MAISONNEUVE HEAD COACH3RD SEASON, INDIANA ‘95

Brian Maisonneuve, a former member of the U.S. Na-tional Team and Columbus Crew, was named head men’s soccer coach at The Ohio State University April 23, 2018.

Maisonneuve was one of the top assistants in all of college soccer at Indiana for the decade prior to him taking over at Ohio State. Wherever Maisonneuve has coached, success has followed. He helped guide the Hoosiers to the 2012 NCAA National Championship, a NCAA runner-up fi nish in 2017, the 2010 Big Ten Regu-lar Season Title as well as the 2013 Big Ten Tourna-ment Championship.

In all, Maisonneuve helped lead Indiana to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Col-lege Cups and four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. An All-American during his playing days for the Hoosiers (1991-94), Maisonneuve was part of Todd Yeagley’s staff for nine years, coaching nine All-Americans as well as 22 players who went on to play professional soccer, including 14 in MLS.

Maisonneuve, who replaced John Bluem (retired in March of 2018), was named the NSCAA Assistant Coach of the Year for the Great Lakes Region in 2012 and 2015. In 2016, Maisonneuve was named one of the Top 12 assistants in the nation for the third-con-secutive year and fi fth time in his career. From 2010-17, the Hoosiers had 21 players named fi rst team All-Big Ten and 50 student-athletes earn Big Ten honors. IU players also earned nine conference player of the year accolades in that time. The Hoosiers excelled in the classroom, compiling 102 Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Prior to his return to Bloomington, Maisonneuve was on staff at the University of Louisville from 2008-09. During his two seasons, the Cardinals were 24-11-4

overall and 13-7-1 in Big East play with two NCAA Tour-nament appearances.

Maisonneuve spent four years as an assistant coach with the U.S. U-17 National Team in Florida. He also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. U-20 Na-tional Team in 2007 during the CONCACAF qualifi ca-tion process and coached the U-20s in the 2007 FIFA World Cup in Canada.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Maisonneuve had a decorated playing career. He spent nine seasons with the Columbus Crew from 1996-2004 and was a member of the United States’ 1998 World Cup team, appearing in all three matches. He also was a mem-ber of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, leading the squad with a pair of goals in the tournament.

Maisonneuve, a native of Warren, Michigan, is one of the top players in Indiana soccer history. Playing alongside Todd Yeagley, under legendary coach Jerry Yeagley, he earned All-America honors as a junior and senior and was named the Hermann Trophy winner in 1994. A two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Maison-neuve fi nished his career with 44 goals and 22 assists and led Indiana to a pair of NCAA College Cup ap-pearances and back-to-back Big Ten regular season titles. During his four years at Indiana the Hoosiers were 73-15-7. He also was a four-time All-Big Ten selection and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selec-tion. Maisonneuve earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana.

Maisonneuve and his wife Diania have two children, Jacob and Emma.
