The season of Advent is always a hectic one. We are moving about, decorating our homes for Christmas, get-ting our lists together to buy that perfect gift and writing out endless Christmas cards or in some cases sending our email greetings. We can get so absorbed and maybe even a little stressed out. Give yourself a gift, come to Advent Meditations on Wednesdays during Advent. Kenny, our Youth Minister has prepared a wonderful program that allows you to spend some quite time with Jesus....Our Spanish Community has a special dedica-tion to Our Lady of Guadalupe with mass and celebra-tion on Wednesday Dec 12. On Dec 13th after the morn-ing masses there will be a blessing of the eyes; the Feast of St Lucy. Story Time with Santa on Saturday Dec 15th, get your tickets by Dec 12th……………………. The first reading is tells of the Hebrew exile in Babylon. They were brought into exile because they were weaker than their neighbors and had turned from God. No, they had not stopped worshiping in the Temple, but their faith in God was very much just lip service. They joined in with the pagan customs of those around them. They adopted pagan glorification of the material over the spiritual. For all these sins, God let them be led into exile. Once in exile, the people realized that there was no hope for them to free themselves. They were captives of a powerful kingdom. They realized that they were completely dependent on God to free them. The condition the Hebrew people were in is not all that different than our human condition. So many people give lip service to religion, but live as pagans. So many people join in with the glorification of the material over the spiritual. Immorality attacks us every day. Some-times it is out in the world. Sometimes it is within our families. Often it is within each of us. So we call upon God to deliver us from evil. He is more powerful than anything that is attacking us. He frees us from all that holds us captive. Pope Francis o en reminds us that we need God’s mercy. He sees how much we need to be freed from evil. He has compassion on us. We live under the mercy of God. A wonderful way to prepare for Christmas is to recognize the need for Christ in our lives. He is the one who fills our emptiness. A savior is coming, and God knows we need Him.

Gospel: Luke 3:1-6 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and He-rod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the región of lturaea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert. John went throughout the whole región of the Jor-dan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the fogiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the desert: “prepare the way of the Lord make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough way made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” The Gospel of the Lord. —————————————————— READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Is 35:1-10; Ps 85:9-14; Lk 5:17-26 Tuesday: Is 40:1-11; Ps 96:1-3, 10ac, 11-13; Mt 18:12-14 Wednesday: Zec 2:14-17 or Rv 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab; Jdt 13:18bcde, 19; Lk 1:26-38 or Lk 1:39- 47, or any readings from the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary, nos. 707-712 Thursday: Is 41:13-20; Ps 145:1, 9-13ab; Mt 11:11-15 Friday: Is 48:17-19; Ps 1:1-4, 6; Mt 11:16-19 Saturday: Sir 48:1-4, 9-11; Ps 80: 2ac, 3b, 15-16, 18-19; Mt 17:9a, 10-13 Sunday: Zep 3:14-18a; Is 12:2-6; Phil 4:4-7; Lk 3:10-18
