Opera DestinationsBreathtaking, beautiful and exotic scenery.

Pointe des Galets is a volcanic island lush with palm trees and rain forests punctuated by an abundance of exotic flowers and tropical fruit trees. Here you can experience fascinating Creole-tinged French culture alongside the sophistication of downtown Paris in a welcoming climate against a backdrop of volcanic mountains and panoramic views of the rainforest.

Maputo, the lush capital of Mozambique, was founded as a port town by the Portuguese and is dotted with historical interest including the Casa do Ferro (House of Iron) designed by Alexandre Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame. The area is renowned for its delicious seafood and in particular for its prawns in peri-peri sauce. Although the glory days of Maputo are long gone, the essence of this vibrant city lives on.

Mossel Bay is recorded as the first port of call used with any regularity by European seafarers on route to the East and as such it is regarded as the historical capital of the Garden Route. As a result, it was used as a mail collection and drop off point for the seafarers and one of the most famous landmarks at Mossel Bay is the Post Office Tree. These days the town is fast gaining popularity as more and more people discover the mild climate and refreshing waters of this sunbathed peninsula.

Anakao is a small fishing village dotted along an elongated beach south of Tulear. Here the fascinating traditional Vezo lifestyle has continued undisturbed for many years - early in the morning, countless pirogues can be seen sailing onto the open ocean hoping for a good catch. Some very large and ancient tombs can be found behind the village decorated with oars and zebu horns while fragments of eggshells from the world’s largest bird, the now extinct Aepyornis or elephant bird, can be found scattered along the beach.

Sinfonia Destinations

One of the most popular tourist destinations worldwide, Cape Town is much lauded for its crystalline beaches, vibey city atmosphere and luxuriant vineyards. For spectacular views of the surrounding mountain and city scapes, take a trip to the top of Table Mountain – now one of the world’s new seven wonders or marvel at the unique Cape Dutch architecture of this distinctive city. Fine dining and fantastic wines are up for grabs all over the metropolis but nowhere more so than on a day trip to the surrounding wine lands where you can experience country cuisine and pastoral tranquillity first hand. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront on the other hand is abuzz with activity and provides fantastic opportunities for shopping and browsing.

From its humble beginnings as a whaling station, Walvis Bay has become one of the most important cities in Namibia and an essential part of the salt and fishing industry. The lagoon is a key feature of Walvis Bay. It is one of the most significant wetlands of southern Africa and is the hibernation area for thousands of migratory birds. The local museum in the Civic Centre, the Birdlife Information Centre and the wooden Rhenish Mission Church are also worth a visit. “Dune 7” near town is the highest sand dune of the area and those who climb it can enjoy wonderful desert views. Walvis Bay is also an important starting point for trips into the unspoiled desert regions of the hinterland.

Pointe des Galets is the principal port of the magical island of Reunion. Often referred to as “a little bit of France in the sun”, Reunion is more than just sandy beaches and swaying coconut palms. The city offers many diversions, a rich history, amusing folklore and local anecdotes. Visitors love to explore the mountains and the unique Cirques (natural amphitheatres) and enjoy a taste of Creole-flavoured French culture along with the luxuries of downtown Paris. The smells, noises and bustle of the mercantile capital Port Louis,

Africa’s wealthiest city, is the gateway to the island paradise of Mauritius. Stunning sand-rimmed lagoons and popular wide public beaches dot the country’s coastline and there truly is something for anyone seeking an island adventure here. Add to this a combination of Chinese, Indian, French and African cuisine, the rousing beat of séga music and the infectious party spirit of the locals, and you soon understand why Mauritius really is so many people’s idea of paradise on earth.

Barra Lodge is one of the most well-known destinations in Mozambique and this is no accident. The resort offers scuba diving, snorkelling, quad biking and hiking along 7km of unspoilt coastline. As the oldest inhabited settlement in Mozambique, nearby Inhambane has much to offer the historian, while nature lovers will delight in discovering the hidden secrets of a nearby mangrove swamp. Shopping for unique crafts, cashew nuts and palm wine is a favourite activity on mainland Mozambique.
