Greetings, Fellow Shooters,

I thought it appropriate to begin this issue of the MSA News with a quote from the famous philosopher, Winnie the Pooh; “The spring has sprung, the grass is rizz, I wonder where them birdies is.”

Well, the first two parts of this quote are absolutely true. It is spring and the grass has risen from its winter sleep. However, we all know “where them bird-ies is.” They are at our local gun clubs, currently hiding in both the high and low houses. It is time to put away your winter attire, grab your gun and go call them out. I, for one am anxious-ly looking forward to starting my 2007 MSA season, very soon.

(313.561.0939) or just stop me when you see me. That is, unless I’m 89 straight and headed to Station 6 with the 410. In that case, please wait until you hear the whoops of joy.

Hope to see you on the skeet field real soon.

On March 11, 2007 and March 18, 2007 the Grand Blanc Huntsman’s Club and Genesee Sportsman’s Club hosted a very different skeet shoot. Four guns and 200 targets that would be paired over two Sundays for a four gun HOA. Twenty-eight (28) hearty souls came out to Grand Blanc and even the cool temperatures and occasional wind couldn’t keep them from participating in this early shoot. The sun popped out and the day felt like early spring, but a warm coat felt real good. The rotations ran from small to large and the results are below:

And on to Genesee Sportsman’s Club we go - - - -

The day started out sunny but cold, and the tem-peratures never got very high. Twenty-nine hardy shooters showed up to enjoy the early shoot. Tom Pavlack Makes It “Six In A Row”Lou Raden High Volume Target Award

Tom Pavlack

Congratulations to Michigan’s 10,000 + in registered targets in 2006. The year 2006 found us with four (4) shooters who made the “10,000 registered targets” club. They will receive the beautiful 10,000 target pin award from the N.S.S.A. Headquarters with their name engraved on it. This year marks the sixth year for the Lou Raden Memorial High Target Award and it goes once again to Tom Pavlack.

As it says on the trophy in Lou’s own words, “These shooters pay little heed to weather conditions and here in Michigan we taste every possible weather condition known – when it’s time to shoot – they do it!!

For all of his hard work, Tom will be the recipient of his sixth in a row, “Lou Raden Memorial High Volume Target Award.” Tom will receive this honor at the State Shoot Saturday night ceremonies in August.

Congratulations to all of the shooters who shot over 10,000. They are listed below:

Tom Pavlack 15,525 Stan Gorgacz 12,075

It was an interesting way to get your 400 targets and kept the time on the field to a mini-mum in the cold weather.

The HOA Champion for the combined 400 targets was George Gilliam, Jr. along with the following winners:

AA1: Randy Hughes A1 Doug Haines B1 Keith Cole B2 Tom Holton C1 Lauren Best C2 Bob Refice C3 Carl Hughes D1 Gene Swanson

Thanks go out to Kristy and all of the great pullers. Also, to all the folks that work so hard at Genesee to make your visit fun. Thanks to Lynn Gilliam who brought us lunch and several varieties of homemade cookies.

After a very successful new format, starting in 1997, that calls for no individual to ap-pear on more than one team, the Michigan Board of Directors voted on continuation of this system to elect Michigan Teams. The 10 All-Staters will be on that team only. Then in order, according to gun averages, the five highest shooters in each of the four gauges and doubles, followed by the Concurrent H.O.A. winners. To qualify for the “All-State Team,” members had to shoot the National “Stan-dards” of 1,200-12 gauge, and 1,000 each of 20, 28, .410 and 500 doubles. They will be listed on the plaque in our Hall of Fame at the Detroit Gun Club, will receive belt buckles and certifi-cates and will receive the right to wear our *Josten made “All-State” ring. The team in order of averages is listed below:

April 2007 MSANews 15

The N.S.S.A. decided to recognize “Zone All Class” Teams beginning with the shooting year 2002. Much like the current selection process used for All-Americans, they recognized shooters on their high overall class in Classes A-E by Zones 1-8. Basically a five-person team was selected in each of the five classes by Zone. Selection was based on the shooter’s beginning regular classification. Individuals were given points for class wins and places throughout 2003. Even if you moved up during the year you were still considered in your first regular classification. All wins and places in class will carry forward.

To be considered, a shooter had to shoot NSSA minimum target standards of 1200; 1000; 1000; 1000; and 500 doubles.

Members selected to a zone team will receive a Zone All-Class Team Pin, Zone All-Class Team Patch, Recognition Certificate, Letter of Congratulations and will be listed annually in our Records Annual and in the Skeet Shooting Review.

As you can see below, four members in each of the classes A-C are from Michigan as well as the only D class shooter. Congratulations to our great Michigan shooters!
