Entering into architecture through a love of creation and experimentation gives me hunger not for the creation of simply beautiful buildings but something deeper than makes use of philosophical and conceptual visions to create products of process and experimentation, realised in a more physical way with study in techniques and methods of translating scribings and thoughts into an experience undertaken by inhabitants of the earth, mars or place to be inhabited. Without this hunger surely the knowledge of trades, materials , businesses and details counts for nothing as the end goal is realised before the project has been undertaken. I wish to use my architec-tural education to learn about everything and anything because as a subject of study there is no topic irrele-vant.

cdp project

This CDP project was born from drawing parallels between fashion and architecture specifi-cally the fold. In which i explored the physical and philosophical characteristics of the fold and looking into ways of representing the fold. To create the primary form my fashion pavilion i analysed the proportions of the site and through the use of fabric formed casting i created a form that posed within the boundaries of this space. Using a 3d scanner i was able to bring these forms in 3d design and manipulate them into a piece of architecture. The philosophical aspects are shown through the folding of the architecture into the site with the transparency and echoed forms of the surrounding water reflected in the pavilions skin. At all times whilst inhabiting the pavilion there are links visually to the outside echoing baroque themes recognised by deluze the philosopher, whose theory of the fold has become prevalent in my design. This project was as much about the process as the final result as i

feel this was an ideal time to experiment and test new methods of creation.

the (riparian) fold sits sensitively on the edge of wapping quay, creating both a fashion genration centre and a universal public space influenced and generated by process within fashion. The project aims to produce a desirable and innovative space for those that inhabit it as well as harnessing the site in an expres-sive way to create something forever positively fashionable. the building relays themes within fashion through its delicate tranlucent skin that changes depending on the external condi-tions adaptiing and protecting the structure inside echoing the ancient history of the importance of clothes. the primary form of the building was created using the proportions of the site and the process of fabric forming to create a number of forms that determined the flow of the shell. This therefore using the process of folding as an appropriate method of representing fashion.

Labyrinth of Impressions

the brief named “wunderkammer” ,a space of wonders. The printing press has defined and forged a path for communication between the masses and the labyrinth of impressions forges a path through the gardens of the john foster building, just off hope street in liverpool. an alternate educational path that heightens both the knowledge and experience of walking through the space but also for those studying and overlooking

based on rio tintos highly acidic river in the south of spain, a walkway and research facility for mi-crobiologists extends over the water. The copper cladding is reminiscient of the salient mining his-tory of the area and evolves and patternates over time to visually sympaphise with the surrounding

vegetation.

Initial and readily avaliable materials are in the form of plastics not only creating ultra fine particles and potenital health risks but if the true and ideal process is to be realised then natural materials should be both the input and output of these devices. Although there are breakthroughs making use ofa corn based platic called PLA that is biodegradable. This stand is a symbol of what is to come. Spiders fill the form with their cobwebs, that are 5 timesstronger than steel equivalent in weight. This natural blueprint is an education to us not only in termsstronger than steel equivalent in weight. This natural blueprint is an education to us not only in termsof a strong and supportive form but through an aim to create and use these materials in multiple ways. The forms is inspired from the early stages of a spiders web as it casts the initial few strands formingthe foundations of the web. Sitting between thin layers of perspex the spiders work away almost unnoticedto forge a delicated canopy of silk. Information boards hang from the canopy adding understanding andknowledge of 3d printing process for those that venture beneath.

Situated in the heart of Manchester this projects looks to re-inject life and enhance the existing characteristics of some classic waterhouse archi-tecture to house students studying law, dentistry and humanities for the university of Manchester. Throughout this project i have worked on visuals, details and concepts for space and i feel it has been the project that has provided the greatest breadth of experience in terms of my involvement and

responsibility.

Above and Below: From the beginning of working on this project i have been involved in creating visuals for the interior spaces. From this i learnt that these are not simply to represent the final conclusion but can be used to aid development and show options of what might be. These models were created on sketchup and rendered using podium.

Above: Dentistry user required a special lab for their work and i was tasked with coordinating the lab furni-ture within the space making sure it was suitable for the use and also fitted within the space well enough.

Left: This is a visual for brew spaces proposed to be located at different points around the university. A quick 3d model created in sketchup meant i was able to assign and organise the layout much easier.

: Detail drawings for the setting out WCs meant communicating with suppliers for the best specification to meet specific BREEAM requirements for the build and also working within sizing constraints.

Right: a visual to show the client the setting out, finishes and overall look for the WCS.

Below: I was assigned to draw up details for the new stairs which meant working and understanding regulations and also the details for balustrades, screed and other materials involved. Other stairs involved a number of different finishes including stone which meant organising meetings to determine what would be the best solution in terms of finish and detail.

Above and below: Two spaces for similar use in the schunk building. This part of the project needed to retain some of its original features as it strongly represents aspects of the waterhouse design. To show the client our proposals i modeled up the spaces and populated it with furniture after discussing with the interior designer what meets the clients needs.

Above: Moot room. I have included a render of this space to show both the uniqueness of each area within the building and how each one needs to be approached in an independent way. For spaces like this , creating a visual was important , not just so the client can see the proposal but also for in practice understanding of how the layout will work.

Below: To create more usable space the basement is to become a series of teaching spaces. The existing basement only had a series of higher level windows meaning that it would not be a desirable place to work. I worked to determine using a change in ground level how this light-well could be designed and work best with the surrounding landscape.
