WWII GERMANY
• Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 as a dictator. • Leader of the Nazi’s, a powerful political group. • Believed that Aryans or whites were racially
superior and wanted to destroy all other groups, especially the Jews.
• At the time Jewish population in Europe was over 9 million.
HOLOCAUST: FINAL SOLUTION
• Goal was to kill as many non-Aryans as possible to create a superior world. • They were first relocated to Ghettos-
gated/fenced communities where they had few rights and freedoms. Lost jobs and houses and were forced to wear Star of David so everyone knew they were Jewish. • Then they were taken to Concentration Camps
where people were forced to work, were starved, and killed.
NO SOLUTION
• Many people believed the Holocaust was a lie or a hoax. • Some Jews were able to flee and escape, other
hid. • Many countries would not take refugees- fleeing
to escape persecution. • The war ended on May 8, 1945. • By the end, it is estimated that 6 million Jews
and 5 million non-Jews (disabled, criminals, Polish, Russian soldiers, priests and nuns, Gypsies, etc) were killed.
