Tests and Parent Signatures

•Tests will be given at the end of each unit in Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. •Vocabulary and Spelling words will always be listed on my website.•Study lists will be sent home for science and social studies so that you will know what to study with your child•Whenever your child finishes a test, I ask them to check over every question to make sure they didn’t accidentally skip a question. When they assure me they have, I collect it from him/her. Therefore, whenever a question is skipped on a test, it is marked incorrect.•Whenever you see my apple “Please sign and return” stamp on your child’s work/test, please do so. If you would like to hold it for a little bit so you have a chance to look at it and review it with your child, that is fine, but please return it.

Homework•Your child will be getting homework Monday – Thursday•Try to set up a daily homework routine…it helps create good study habits that last a lifetime•The children copy their homework everyday in their homework pads. The homework is also posted on my website every day.•Should you be correcting errors? Yes. Your child benefits from the immediate feedback that you can give them. If you are finding your child is having difficulty with a concept, please let me know so that I can also reinforce/review it with them in class.•When they write their spelling words in sentences, encourage them to write “stretched” sentences. Instead of “I stepped in mud.”…”I stepped in the mud after it rained really hard yesterday.”

Reading At Home •Starting today, your children need to read 20 minutes a night, at least 5 days a week. •Each Monday, a Reading Log will come home. It will be collected the following Monday. At least 100 minutes need to be logged each week. •Your child can read independently, or they can read more challenging books with you. •Try to have discussions with your child about what they are reading. (See attachment to the Reading Log)•Starting in January, your child will also have to complete a short reading response each week.

•We worked together to create our classroom rules•Your child starts off the week with 3 sticks•Your child gets a warning for not following the rules, and then loses a stick if the behavior is not corrected•A sheet is filled out whenever a stick is taken, documenting what he/she was doing when the stick was taken, and what he/she SHOULD have been doing•If your child loses all three sticks, he/she does not get to participate in Fun Friday. You will also get the sheet home to sign.

Page 11: Mrs. Napoli’s 2 nd Grade Room 3

•If your child still has 3 sticks on Friday afternoon, they get to visit the Treasure Box as a reward for their good behavior.•Tables also accrue points for positive behavior and can lose points for negative behavior. The table with the most points at the end of the week, also get to visit the Treasure Box.
