Learning and laughing together in the light of God’s love.
Mrs Lawlor writes …
The busy autumn term has drawn to a close. There is always a lot to be thankful for
but I know that everyone is looking forward to a break from the school run! Christmas
2019 and the new decade - 2020 is fast approaching!
The third week of Advent brings about excitement and joy as we prepare for the
Christmas season. The children have been reflective and thoughtful during this season
of Advent, reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas and the need for peace. As part
of their preparations the children have all performed songs and carols and have
delighted us with their retelling of the Nativity in their respective Nativity plays as well
as demonstrating their knowledge and understanding in assemblies and RE lessons.
Our Christmas Productions
Year 1 and Year 2 children told us the story of the Nativity through ‘Born in the Barn’
(Year 1) and The Inn-spectors (Year 2). All the children performed to a high standard
and I know the audiences thoroughly enjoyed themselves
Reception’s ‘Wriggly
Nativity’ was highly
entertaining and
enjoyable. It was
wonderful to see our
youngest children in
the school so
confident and
articulate in their
acting, singing and
narration.

Congratulations to Penny in Year 4 for winning the Ann Alden Maths Cup for her
fantastic commitment to Maths. Maria in Year 1 also received the friendship cup for
being a kind and caring friend, well done to you both.
I would like to once again express my thanks and appreciation to the staff who worked
so hard to ensure all the children at St Joseph’s participate and enjoy the festivities.
The staff and governors at St Joseph’s are a wonderful team and on behalf of the
school community I would like to wish them all a happy, restful and peaceful Christmas.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting the school’s two chosen charities; HCPT
and The Christmas Dinner Project, Brighton. This year we have exceeded previous
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 led a wonderful service at St
Joseph’s Church on the afternoon and evening
of 11h December. ‘One Bright Star’ was
beautifully sung and performed by the KS2 choir
and enhanced by the Y5 tableau. It was fantastic
to have such a full church at both performances.
I really do appreciate the support from parents in
enabling the wonderful tradition of an evening

years in raising £933. This is truly amazing and highlights what a special and caring
school St Joseph’s is. I am certain our two chosen charities will be over joyed with
these contributions. Thank you!

Year 5 are getting into the
Christmas spirit and have
beautifully decorated their
classroom doors.
Our wonderful catering team went the
extra mile again this Christmas and
created a magical gingerbread village,
including a school with bells and lights,
for our children to enjoy. We all
enjoyed a fun-filled Christmas dinner
together with lots of singing and
laughter.
Meanwhile over in KS1 the
classroom Elves had a
farewell Christmas party.

Thank you to the SJA for organising Santa’s visit, the KS2 disco and our wonderful
Christmas Hamper raffle.
The St Joseph’s Association kindly donated £250 to local charity Stripey Stork for their
festive Santa Stork campaign. Stripey Stork collect donations of toys, clothes and other
essential items for babies and children and rehome them with local families experiencing
hardship. The £250 donation was made from the Friday cake sales. Thank you all for your
support.

forward to welcoming you back in the New Year and wish you all a happy, peaceful
and prosperous New Year.
God our Emmanuel, at Christmas we celebrate and rejoice the birth of Christ and the
gift of salvation he brings to each and every one of us. Guide us to show mercy,
compassion, and kindness to all of our neighbours as we remember to follow the
example of Jesus. Let us also not forget in this time of celebration that there are people
less fortunate than ourselves. We keep them in our prayers and thoughts this
Christmas. Help us, Lord, to support them in whatever way we can. Amen.
On behalf of the staff I would like to thank you for your generosity and kindness. We
have received many cards, good wishes and gifts. It is truly overwhelming and greatly
appreciated. Thank you so very much.
