    GENERAL SHIPPING KNOWLEDGE

    General Shipping Knowledge is about to know the functions of ships. Other than that it is also

    about to learn the construction of the ship itself.

    BREAKBULK CARGOES VESSELS

    Cargo were defined as goods that being carried on a ship, aircraft or motor vehicles.

    Break-bulk usuall did not involve the containeri!ation. "nd it is usuall being transport as

    individual pieces due to the overweight, oversi!ed goods. #t is not suitable nor fit to the

    container. "s e$amples, goods that were transfer in bulk are usuall ore, sand and other

    commodities that are neither on pallets or in containers.

    HOW IT WORKS

    %ow does these vessels transfer it goods from one place to another. #t is involving the

    port and the ship itself. &oughl it involve big flow of transportation from manufacturers to the

    trucks and lastl to the ship and it goes on from the ship back to the lorr and to the destination

    where it was supposed to be send. 'he first is loading the goods, the goods will be kept in the

    warehouse until the ship came to the port. (hen the ship had been arrived, the goods will be

    transfer from the warehouse to the )ua. *ua is a landing place that were made b concrete or

    metal platform that ling alongside or pro+ecting into water for loading and unloading ships. 'he

    goods that had been on the )ua will be transfer to the ship b crane. #t is either the crane that

    were on the ship or at the port. Because break-bulk vessels had different tpe. oading and

    unloading goods that were using break-bulk are a little mess to the labor. #t is because the goods

    will be transfer to the )ua ne$t to the ship and then it will be lifted on board separatel. "fter all

    the goods had been in the vessels, the loading and unloading area will be swept, washed and will

    be repaired if it had an damaged on them.

    o Barrels are usuall involving in transferring li)uid goods such as wine, water,

    brand, whisk or even oil. Barrel is usuall made of wood and being built in

    spherical shape.

    o Corrugated bo$es is normal bo$. 'his bo$ normall be loaded on pallets. 'he

    sling that are usuall to load the cargo fre)uentl being left on to facilitate

    discharge.

    double dunnage or in the tween decks. 'he sling that were used to load the cargo

    also being left.

    ADVANTAGES OF BREAK-BULK CARGOES

    re)uentl break bulk are the worth wa to transfer goods. Because, it can transfer in a

    large )uantit. #t is also the cheapest thing in costing to transport it. Other than that, break-bulk

    also can be transfer onto smaller vessel or to the smaller port. Because not all vessel can access

    the shallow water. 'hat/s wh these break-bulk cargoes will be transfer to much smaller ship to

    access to some location that were cannot be access b an big vessels.

    DISADVANTAGES OF BREAK-BULK CARGOES

    #n an good things there is also their bad. One of the bad thing in using break-bulk

    method is, it create mass of mess. #t had been e$plained on the first thing how does break-bulk

    works or how does it load and unload its good.
