CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Were back!!!! Happy new Year to everybody. Here’s hoping that your off season and your holidays were extremely good and that you are all rip roaring and ready to go for what promises to be an exciting 2008 season.

As racers there are tons of opportunities available for you to compete in this year. We’re here to try to help you all out regarding options and scheduling, who’s doing what and where and of course as always to provide the best race coverage available in the area.

those are the things that are staying the same with MrA. one of the biggest changes for some that you’ll find this year is how you get your MrA. For the past two years if you were a D6 or MDrA MX card holder, MrA would get mailed directly to your home.

Due to some organizational changes and the soaring cost of postage, that is no longer

the case. MrA will now be available at the race tracks and thru many of our dealer advertisers as a complimentary issue.

However, many of you have told me that you enjoy your home delivery so we are offering that option as well for a nominal charge. You can clip the coupon elsewhere in this issue and reserve your copy each and every month.

We would also ask for your help in that you support the advertisers and promoters inside our pages. everytime you buy a product for racing, make sure it is from a local source that helps support your ability to continue racing. And one more favor if you will, when you solicit those advertisers please let them know that you saw their ad in our pages. it helps us to be able to do what we do, and that is to support you.

MrA can not only be a keepsake for you, but a valuable resource when it comes time to attract sponsors. Show them you made it in and that their sponsorship is worthy of you.

Well, it won’t be long. Motorama kicks off the race season and it’s just a few short weeks away. right after that we’re headed outdoors for a few cold ones (races that is) and we are into a full racing schedule.

check out our upcoming events and watch for the promoters ads. there is a full slate of harescramble racing available and this could be one of the most exciting years for motocross racing ever in our area.

Watch for all the details for the big year end shoot out between three of the MX series in the area. this will truly be the year that we find out who the fastest riders really are. Stay tuned!

until next time. Jim bull, MrA

ATV HotshotsWe start the 2008 season off with a pair of hotshots that are keeping it - “all in the family”. Kevin Kubinak is the younger of two brothers that brought home District 6 championship titles in 2007. Actually Kevin is now two for two, two years racing with two championships under his belt.

in 2006 Kevin began his racing career in the 50cc stock division. His dad said he was a little reckless in the beginning and he actually had to de tune his quad to keep him under control. i believe what he actually meant was that the kid is

meant to race and he only knows one thing, hold it wide open. by the end of that year Kevin had earned the 50cc Stock class championship.

He moved up to the 70cc machine in 2007 and by the looks of things he kept the same philosophy, keep the throttle pinned. Kevin accumulated more points in 2007 that any other racer in any other quad division. He dominated the Junior Mini championship in 2007 by beating a few past national champions and he pulled over a dozen holeshots along the way.

next up we have Kevin’s older brother cody. He’s the one that’s led the way at the track and probably a big reason why the whole family is so involved. cody is now in his fifth year racing the Kool Kidz quads and he has come so close to that elusive championship so many times. He has earned a few third and fourth place finishes along the way beginning way back with his first ride, an eton 50 where he took a second place finish at Sleepy

Hollow in his first race ever. 2007 would be his year; cody pulled lots of holeshots and won lots of races along the way. He had two top 10 national finishes and he ended the year with his first District championship.

As i mentioned the whole Kubinak family is very involved. A few years back the boys parents decided since they were at the track so much and they found themselves helping other racers they would support the local race effort by starting their own family business. So cory and his wife Karen started Kool Kidz AtV. they have new youth AtV’s and Motorcycles for sale as well as offering Hi Performance work and parts

and accessories. their goal is to support District 6 and the racers of the area as much as they can. they offer trackside support at many of the races and they offer all of their products online at www.koolkidzatv.com. take a look when you get a chance.

You may want to take a look at the Kubinak brothers while you’re at it. My bet is that they both might have what it takes to go all the way. they also told me to watch out for their little sister carsyn that she too might someday head to the track. they’re brothers and champions, supporting the district and the family business. best of luck to them both!

Factory contingencies will be available at all rounds as well as championship points and suspension and performance giant VPe will be coming on as a title sponsor along with a slue of local companies and dealer sponsors.the first award of the night was the special recognition award that is becoming an annual happening at the ultimate banquets. Last year 3 time national champion tony DiStefano’s number #111 was retired. this year the promoters of the ultimate MX Series honored local businessman and raceway park track builder Mickey Kessler for his achievements in the sport of motocross racing. Kessler a nJ native began racing as a youth in district 6 and has competed at all levels of AMA racing. one of Kessler’s most noted achievements was winning the 1986 uSgP at the famed unadilla

raceway. today Kessler is a key team member at raceway Park while he runs his business, Kessler Pro Suspension. Kessler urged the racers of District 6 to respect their parents and supporters and to do the best with the equipment they have. He says

many times people can get caught up in their equipment and their resources. His advice to the racer was to work hard and do the best you can with what you have to work with.in addition to Kessler, Austin Mosier, nicholas gennusa and Jarek balkovic were recognized for their accomplishments racing the national scene in 2007. then racers from all AtV and Motorcycle classes were awarded plaques, jackets and tons of free merchandise. After the awards door prizes were drawn and a pit bike was given away.

the 2008 ultimate MX Series should be a good one. the promoters group has worked tirelessly to come up with a series that benefits everyone. the competition should be fierce and the payouts great. the 10 race series kicks off in early April at the Pagoda

Motorcycle club and ends up in late August at Miles Mountain. in addition, the ultimate Series will be part of the yet to be named year end shootout between the top 15 riders in each class from the ultimate MX Series, the MDrA Series and the go PAMX Series. this year end shootout will be a true test to see who the fastest riders from the region really are. So hold on to your hats, this coming 2008 motocross season is going to be the best ever.

33rd Annual Rodney Farris Memorial Indoor Short TrackMaryland State Fairgrounds - Timonium, MD - RD #3 - December 7-15,

2007By Len & Ben Breech

Winkler Wins First at Timonium Indoor Series FinaleAfter spending half of last Saturday’s 250 final trying to get by winner, John Henderson, Dalton Winkler solved that problem tonight with a wire to wire class win. He was helped by polesitter, Jesse Long, stalling in the first turn. Winkler took the lead from travis Diem, Shayna texter and Don Mullen Sr. as the 250s ran a quick, uneventful fifteen lap final. While no rider won their class in all three nights of the baltimore county trail riders/ cockeysville optimist club sponsored series several did win two finals. best results were turned in by Justin owen in the 125 class, who won the opener, a close second in round two and won again tonight. He led evan Houston, Seth Valentin, Samantha bergman and Frankie Valentin.

Houston stalled in two on the second lap, and rejoined just in front of owen. He managed to stay upright and worked his way to fifth by the end. the order stayed the same to the end. Donnie Mullen ii has emerged as heir to the rodney Farris-georgie Price domination of the Pro class. After getting involved in a ‘timonium tango’, and finishing last, in the first final after winning his heat and semi, he has won everything, except round two’s dash for cash. After the race was restarted for chris Klinefelter’s hard crash on the back straight, Mullen took the lead from Mike Varnes, Jason isennock and Paul Lynch. the only change happened when Lynch got under isennock for third around lap ten. With high revving 450 four stroke revolution, the open class here has evolved from veteran riders on two strokes (bultacos) into the largest, unpredictable class running. John Long took the lead from Mike Standiford, corey Hormes, Dale Verzi and Joey Parks. About the tenth lap, Parks slipped under Verzi for fourth entering three, but coming off two the following lap, Parks fell and Verzi plowed into him, bringing out the red. the race was called complete, with Long taking the win. the only rider with a chance of sweeping was Dan bromley in the 85 class. He started third, behind Matt Langrehr and Joey Schmidt. on the second lap, Langrehr fell, Schmidt got by, but bromley didn’t. Schmidt had an easy time on the Action MotorSports Honda, while bromley

remounted and salvaged third. Samantha bergman took her second straight Women’s final with rebecca Zafia shadowing her the entire distance. Megan bell and Samantha resch were several lengths back. Zafia came back in the next event, Youth 100, to follow Jeremiah Snow. Snow had won the opening round, but fell hard on the first lap of round two. they were close throughout the entire fifteen lap final. Adult 100 had Albert cook leading Verzi, Joe Dragunas and Frank Valentin off two. cook fell on the third lap, and Verzi, somehow, managed to stay up for the entire distance to hold off the previous events winners. Shawn rothstein ii took his second straight 50 (7-8) win over brandon Price and cameron Smith. Joe gathercole just won his second straight 50

Adult, not his half lap margin, but on his flag lap, he ran out of gas. 65s went to ryan Varnes, with chris thomas taking the 50 Shaft and Joseph reece easily won the 50 (4-6)

Happy new Year! i hope everyone had an awesome new year. Mine was on the quiet side this year, but that’s how i prefer it anyway. i am not a big partier kind of a guy. i’d rather get to bed early and get up early so i don’t miss anything during the day. Well the 2008 season is looking very bright for me and it looks like things are coming together with the AMA as well, which is good for a change. A couple bright spots is that the grand national schedule is out for next year and we have some new tracks for next year including two races in Kansas, the indianapolis Mile, Vernon Downs, a new track in tennessee and right in our backyard in bedford, PA! So if you haven’t seen us in action at a gnc national be sure to check it out on June 27th or be sure to make the annual gnc national at Hagerstown, MD on July 26th! A couple bad spots that the AMA relinquished on us is they have raised our entry fees for the nationals again. i don’t understand why they would do that being that they haven’t raised our purses for each event. i guess they think we all have extra money lying around that they would like to collect. Also, there are only seven singles races on the schedule which isn’t a lot and every track has been on the schedule at least two years already and some for over 40. So it isn’t too exciting in that department. Personally,

i like almost every track we are going to this year except for good ol’ Daytona beach. i always seem to struggle there, but with a very good program for 2008 and a lot of good help, i think we can hold our own there this year and then i feel we can be very strong for the rest of the schedule. 2008 will be my full debut gnc rookie year, meaning i am up for the 2008 rookie of the Year Award. Although that is my goal, i still would like

to crack the top 20 in points and get some good finishes against everyone, not just the rookie riders. i have been staying busy in the off season. i have been up to connecticut training with the factory Harley-Davidson rider and grand national champion, Kenny coolbeth. i have also been tt riding with factory Suzuki rider Jersey Jake Johnson and many others getting ready for the 2008 season! other than racing, i have been on a training plan that seems to be working great. i never get tired riding motorcycles and now i feel strong for a very long period of time with a lot of strength during the whole session. i also have been doing some indoors at a place called Mototown uSA in connecticut and also at the Middletown indoors in new York. A full 25 rider field was at Mototown uSA on Dec. 30th. the track is one of the best i ever rode on, and for an indoor! the track is big, smooth, and pretty tacky. i rode my DtX 450 and that thing was working great. Donny Lingle at b&b has my suspension working awesome and everyone is taking notice. i finished 2nd to Kenny coolbeth on his c&J 450 he won the championship on last year in both classes. i felt capable of the win, but Kenny was just too smooth and consistent to make a pass. i also raced Keith Jacobsen’s yearly indoors at Middletown, nY. i like these indoors a lot better then the annual timonium indoors held in Maryland in early December. unlike timonium, this track is a lot wider and more racey. You can run it in deep, turn it and get on it. timonium is more like ballet on motorcycles and whoever is the smoothest pole putter usually wins. Middletown is run by great people and the track is awesome. We have raced there two weekends so far and Kenny coolbeth has won two pro finals and i have won two pro finals. each weekend we seem to split wins, and we seem to put on great races for the spectators. every time i race with Kenny, i learn so much. He is an excellent role model and i look up to him. Along with Kevin Varnes and chris carr, Kenny was definitely a guy i looked to growing up and now that i get to train and race with him, it’s pretty awesome! in the coming weeks, we are going to pretty busy getting motorcycles ready for Daytona. i am also going to be working on some last minute sponsor stuff. We also have a banquet to attend and a big show in indianapolis we go to every year in February. then we have some testing to go to and our first race Feb 29th in Savannah, gA. i hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year and i look forward to talking with each and everyone of you at the track in 2008!

Getting Sidewayswith Cory Texter

Well this past weekend was our last “warm-up” races before we head down to Daytona beach at the beginning of March to start off the 2008 AMA grand national Schedule. everyone else on the east coast had the same idea as the competition at both of the races was very very stiff.

round three of the thuderdome indoors in Middletown, new York was on Saturday. i won both my scratch heats in the 450 Pro and open Pro. i also won both my heat races and i also won the first ever thuderdome Pro dash for cash. then i got both holeshots in both main events and came away with a clean sweep! it was a great night and it couldn’t of got any better. then we headed up to Windsor, ct for round two at the huge facility, Mototown uSA. there was about 40 pro riders in each class and they only take 12 riders to the final. in attendence were Factory Yamaha racer Kevin Varnes, Past Horizon Award winner Matt Weidman, grand national number riders raun Wood, brian Phillips, Ken Yoder, Shawn baer, Pro-Sport champions gary conklin, brandon robinson and Mike radley, uSgPru and MotogP academy rider PJ Jacobsen, AMA road racer Shane narbonne, and a handful of past national number riders and others. i rode the open Premier class and the 450 Pro Premier classes. i made both finals and sat on the front row for both races. i got the holeshot in turn one of the stacked open Premier final, but i tucked my front end just a little bit and that let gary conklin get by. He was riding an incredible pace and

i was ready for the challenge. the first 10 laps he pulled away by 6-8 bike lengths, but with five to go, i reeled him back in. i looked over my shoulder and we had a straight-away lead over the rest of the pack. With one to go, i gave it all i had but i just came up short and finished 2nd place. not bad, considering the stiff competition but that ended my “perfect” weekend as i really wanted to pull a win out.

in the 450 Pro Premier class, the polesitter picked the outside spot, which put me in the 2nd spot. it was a bad move by the polesitter because the outside spot wasn’t all that great of a spot. i got 3rd off the line and quickly passed 2nd spot. by this time, the track was becoming a very single file type race track. i got behind the leader and stayed glued to his rear wheel but i was unable to make a pass. i gave it everything i had but just came up short. i was a bit disappointed with 2nd place, i can’t lie about that, but it was good seat time and greAt competition was behind me. So with a 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd and 2nd in the books it was a pretty solid weekend and boosted up my confidence once again heading into Daytona. thank you for everything and stay warm! Hope to see you at the indy trade show in February!

TheRacer’s EdgeS A F E T Y F I R S T

there’s no getting around the fact that we are participants in a potentially dangerous sport and that we should do everything we can to protect ourselves and those we care about.

now i don’t want to get long winded on the subject of race gear because i’m sure everyone understands that with race gear the level of protection is directly proportional to what you pay for it. A good quality name brand helmet, boots, pants with knee/shin guards, jersey, chest protector and gloves generally affords you the best protection available. that in my opinion is the bare minimum. if you choose to add a few additional things like elbow guards then more power to you (here’s a tip, wear them under a loose jersey because there is a stigma attached to elbow guards that they make you look like a beginner). it’s a shame that knee

braces are as expensive as they are. i think most racers should wear them to prevent knee injuries rather than needing them after the fact. And probably the most recent and most important piece of protection we can get is the Leatt brace. everyone owes it to themselves to take a look at this piece of protective gear that helps combat head, neck and spinal injuries.

the area of safety i wish to discuss is the motorcycle itself. Parents pay attention because it’s up to you to make sure that your son or daughter is racing on a piece of equipment that is capable of doing what is asked of it on a race track. i have seen riders trying to compete on bikes with seized suspension linkage with a total of maybe three inches of travel. i’ve said it before in other articles; the suspension linkage needs to be serviced at

least once every three to four weeks and more often if you race in mud. All the money in the world spent on re-valving is worthless if the linkage it’s attached to doesn’t move.

i would estimate that better than 60 % of the riders out there are racing on bone stock suspension. now when the bike is new that’s not a bad thing, in most cases stock valving and stock fluid can do an adequate job when they are fresh, but after 20 hours running time the effectiveness of the suspension fluid has dropped considerably. the problem here is that the drop in performance is so gradual that the rider doesn’t notice and continues to expect his bike to be able to handle and perform like it did when it was new. it’s in situations like this that a rider gets injured, and lets face it young kids today are trying to emulate their heroes with big air and

skimming across a set of rockers, all things that are dangerous under the best of conditions. now add a tired suspension to the equation and the odds of something going wrong increase. it scares me to think that most parents are unaware of what their kids are trying to do on suspension fluid that is long past its expiration date.

For safety sake i urge all riders and parents of young riders to educate yourselves and become aware of what is required to maintain a capable race bike. it is impossible to remove all risk from our sport but there’s no reason we can’t remove unnecessary risk from the equation. As always i welcome any questions that might help educate you on this matter, my phone # is in the ad near this article please call if you have any questions. Just ask for Al.

the 2008 raceway Park motocross season is upon us. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their time off from racing this winter but i for one can hardly wait for the season to start.i would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and kind words last season. i have had the opportunity to get to know many of you personally and enjoy sharing my work with you on a weekly basis. i have spent the winter of 2007-2008 working on and planning some exciting new projects that i think you will enjoy. As you may have already seen during the 2007 season i launched the Motopages and nJ Motocross. both websites were designed to increase the visibility of the local motocross community. the Motopages has become the local directory for goods and services for and by local racers. it allows for networking for business between riders and what they do for a living. nJ Motocross is a website that is designed to cover all things motocross in and about the great state of new Jersey. the constantly evolving site has served to record the states racing history in one spot. For 2008 there are plans to create a print version of nJ motocross. nJ Motocross the

magazine is planned as a quarterly with the premier issue scheduled to be released this summer. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. And speaking of staying tuned, with today’s ever evolving internet society i have jumped into the blogosphere with two interesting projects. www.njmotocross.blogspot.com is comprised of frequently updated information from anything motocross new Jersey related. Weather updates, results and other information can be posted quickly and often. Photos and results usually within a day of the event as well as links to and copies of published nJ Motocross items. www.lukaitisphoto.wordpress.com will become the place to stop first to see photos from each race. As soon as they are done and posted we’ll let you know.by subscribing to our site feeds you’ll never be out of touch. So i’ll be busy this season and i hope you’ll all join me in my adventure.i am looking forward to another season see you at the track.

Chris Chomko

back in new Jersey after a couple of year break living in Michigan chris chomko is one of the friendliest outgoing riders you’ll find. Here is a little about #576.

Chris Tell us a little about yourself. 250 pro/ 25plus Vet A rider. i am looking forward to being the fresh 30 plus guy in less than 1 year. i’m a laid back kinda guy who loves to race, but at the same time i can be the out of control guy out on a Saturday night. When i’m not racing or putting in laps at the practice track with caesar, i can be found out fishing or just chillin’ with some good friends. What is your favorite thing about racing?i must say i love the competition. every year younger riders are coming up as well

as some of us older guys just keep getting faster, i may not be the fastest guy out there but there is nothing like a great day at the races with a bunch of fast guys going into the 1st turn. You lived in Michigan for a couple of years while still traveling back to NJ to race once in a while. How did the Michigan scene compare to the NJ scene? the Michigan scene, there were definitely a lot of fast guys out there, the problem for me was that i had to travel close to 2 hrs to get to a race where you could get more than a handful of racers. there were a lot of good tracks, and plenty of fast riders, but racing has always been something that has kept me close with my Dad, so it really wasn’t too much fun traveling by myself. And i had to wash my own bike! How long have you been racing and what got you started? i have been racing 17 years now. My uncle raced and bought my brother and me an Xr 70 many years ago. My brother was faster, and i was told i would never be a racer, so that kept me motivated. A

few years later my Dad bought us a KX 80 we rode all the time, and then just tried out the racing deal. the rest is history.

How about those Michigan winters. Were you able to ride with all the snow on the ground?Michigan winters are definitely no fun. i had a supercross style track in my back yard that i could look at through the window because it was way to cold to ride. We had an indoor track i would ride at every weekend just to try to stay in shape.

What made you come back to NJ? Well i moved to Michigan with my job, i had a pretty sweet deal to transfer out there. i had it all but i just wasn’t happy. the simple things in life are what made me want to move back home. Family and Friends

You had a pretty successful 2007 tell us a little about that?07 went ok i finished 2nd for the indoor MX series in Michigan in both the 250 pro and 25 plus vet. i also finished 5th overall at raceway Park for the 250 Pro/expert class.

Who helped you achieve those results? there are so many people to thank. My Dad he is always there no matter what. Freehold Honda, LDr, bel-ray, Scott, MSr, bridgestone, KPS, Decal Works, twin Air, cycra, FMF, tag, eK, the Lukaitis crew, SDg Seats, Pro Wheel, eVS, everyone that comes out to practice with me to keep me putting in laps! thanx

What are your plans for 2008? i’m planning on going to Florida over the winter to get back into better shape. racing local district 6 and some district 34 stuff. there are a few things up in the air right now, but i will definitely be back and ready to give 100%

gear? check. bike? check. Water? check. Positive attitude? check! As you head out to your first race of the season, it’s crucial you don’t leave a single thing at home, and that includes a positive attitude! in this game called life, sometimes you’re dealt with cards that you don’t want to play. but it’s necessary to learn to play those cards and have a good attitude while doing it. in this article, we’ll discuss how having a good attitude both on and off the track will help you succeed in all areas of your life. Having a good attitude on the track is just as important as having one off the track. While you’re giving it 110% lap after lap, having a good attitude all the time will bring you more personal benefits than you may expect.

How it WorksAttitude - it’s what makes the difference between a good athlete and a poor one. Your attitude, whether good or bad, controls your mind, which therefore controls everything. However a bad attitude can potentially stop anyone from living out their dreams and leading a full life. When a life changing event occurs or when you constantly surround yourself with people who have good attitudes, you’re more than likely to have a good attitude as well. in order to live the life of a champion on the track, you must first become a champion by conquering any negative, pessimistic thoughts that may be rolling around in your head. it doesn’t matter if you’re the next big thing just waiting for a factory team to pick you up or if you’re the weekend warrior out there working his tail off, being a rider and having a positive attitude is very important in this sport. if you condition your body on a daily basis, then make it a habit to condition your mind as well. if you do this, the positive thought

process will become second nature to you and the weak negative one will be tossed out the door. but remember, this won’t be an easy task; you must be willing to commit and work on your attitude every day!

How to Obtain and Maintainif you tend to have a negative attitude, but would like to change this, be ready to put forth quite a bit of effort, energy and time. obtaining a positive attitude will not be an easy task, but is something that can be done. if it were as easy as jumping out of bed one morning and saying, “i’m going to have a positive attitude!” then i don’t think we’d have any problems, but it’s not that easy. You have to train your mind to think optimistically about everything. While obtaining that positive attitude is important, maintaining it is probably just as imperative in order for you to live a great life. in order to maintain this positive mind set, it’s important that you learn to control your thoughts and beliefs. controlling positive thoughts will lead you in the right direction in life, especially when it’s time to make those hard decisions.

It’s All in Your Headif you live your life day to day with a bad attitude and a negative demeanor, you’ll probably find yourself with very few friends and not a lot to look forward to each day. So greet each morning with the best attitude you can and see how much of a difference this will make. Plus, you never know whose life you will touch or what fellow rider’s outlook on life you will empower.

My brother is 16 years old and my sister is 15 years old. they both race dirt bikes and they both do well in their classes. My dad takes care of the maintenance on our bikes and my mom does all the organizing and planning of our trips to the races. the highlight of my racing career was when i won the 2006 PA State PeeWee rider of the Year award last season and got sponsored by KtM uSA with a 2007 KtM65 bike. My nickname from the eceA use to be nightrider, but it became “Factory” because of the KtM factory sponsorship. i also won the 2006 PA State 7-9 65cc championship, the 2006 District6 7-9 65cc championship, the 2006 Atlantic grandprix 7-9 65cc championship and placed 2nd in the 2006 eceA 7-9 65cc championship. i really had a good year.My dad bought me my first dirt bike when i was 7 years old. it was a KtM50 Mini Adventure and i was just riding for fun at new Jersey off road Vehicle Park (nJorVP) where we are still members. that year (2003) my brother started racing in the eceA Harescrambles Series, but i was not ready yet and just continued to practice. My first year of racing was in the eceA Harescrambles Series in 2004. i raced in the 7-9 65cc class on a rM60 that my dad had bought for the racing. i finished 10th in my class at the end of the 2004 season. My second year of racing in the eceA Harescrambles Series was 2005 and i raced in the 7-9 65cc class but this time on a rM65 that my dad had bought for me. i finished 3rd in my class at the end of the 2005 season. i also started doing some PA Harescrambles races and District 6 Harescrambles races that year.My third year of racing in the eceA Harescrambles Series was 2006 and i still raced in the 7-9 65cc class because my

birthday is after January 1st. i was on a KtM65 that my dad had bought for me. i finished 2nd in my class at the end of that season. there was only 5 points difference between me and the winner. i also did the PA Harescrambles races, the District 6 Harescrambles races and the new Atlantic grandprix Harescrambles races. i came first in all three of these championships. i was also rewarded with the “Pee Wee rider of the Year” Award for 2006. this past 2007 season was my 4th year of racing. i raced in the 10-11 65cc class. i competed in the eceA Harescrambles races,

the PA Harescrambles races, the District 6 Harescrambles races and the new northeast Harescrambles races. i finished first in all these championships except for the eceA’s. i missed 4 eceA races due to overlaps.this year i will be racing in the 7-11 85cc youth

class. i will be racing for points in the eceA, PA State and District 6 Harescramble series. then in 2009 we will be racing the gncc Series as a family.i have been working hard on my race results. i want to do well. i want to ride professionally one day. Actually, i hope to be a professional rider when i’m 16 years old. i’m in the 6th grade this year. i am a b average student in Maple Point Middle School, bucks county, PA. i have a lot of fun and work very hard to compete. i am running, riding my bicycle, and practicing on my dirt bike. i love people and like to have fun. i enjoy spending time with my friends at the races. thank You Very Much.

So you think your new bike or quad is perfect right out of the crate? think again! Do you have a bike or quad that could use a little refreshing? read on because help is just a phone call away.

the world of motocross and off road racing has become ultra competitive. expensive machines that work as well as a factory “Works” bike from just 10 years ago are available right now to anyone at your local motorcycle dealer. there is however one caveat, as great as these bikes are out of the crate, they should be modified to the rider’s abilities, weight and type of racing or riding they plan to participate in to maximize the motorcycle’s potential. riders have many choices when it comes to modifying a race machine and racers are constantly bombarded with the latest and greatest way to fine tune their ride. in the world of off road racing, the four stroke invasion is complete and the change has been phenomenal. Moreover, in the world of engine and suspension modifications, if you aren’t constantly changing you will not have a competitive edge. that’s where FastMann comes in.

randy Mann is the owner of FastMann racing (FMr). As it states on the web site, “FMr is a full service motorcycle repair shop specializing in engine, custom Suspension, and Jetting work for Motocross, off road and Street bike enthusiasts. catering to all your motorcycle needs, we can make sure that your engine and suspension are the very best they can be. FMr is owned and operated by randy Mann, and has been in business since 1998. in these last 8 years, randy has amazed and impressed all who have the privilege of racing a machine that has Suspension and engine Work accomplished by FastMann. When randy is not at the shop he’s usually out racing his own bike. He knows what it takes to win, and takes his work very seriously. All work is tested on Fast Mann’s own track after completion. FastMann has been helping the Mid Atlantic area motocross racers Win on a consistent basis for years, by turning their bikes into the most nimble and fastest bikes on the track.”

randy has a background in engineering and tremendous knowledge in regards to suspension and engine modification. However, all the knowledge in the world won’t make you a successful suspension and engine tuner if you don’t have the equipment, tools and skill to satisfy the customers who hand you their bike and say “make it better”. randy has the uncanny ability to modify and dial in a bike to a particular riding

ability and riding style. that’s a skill that should not go un-noticed by people like us. We all want our bikes to work better in certain situations but most of us don’t need a “Factory” bike. We need our bikes to work best for us! it’s that simple.

randy has modified two crF 450F’s and a cr 250F for me. i have been so impressed with the suspension and engines modifications that i wanted to follow up on our story and interview from last year. i recently talked with randy in his shop located in Mercersburg, PA and we discussed his business philosophy and goals for the future.

MRA: How long have you been in business?Randy: We have been offering our services since 1998. MRA: When you started what type of business was it?Randy: We started doing all types of performance engine suspension and carburetion work.

MRA: What other types of services do you offer now?Randy: We offer Dyno work and testing, jetting on the Dyno with the exhaust gas analyzer, Dyno work and adjustments for the upcoming fuel injection, Flow bench work for engine performance modification and Seat and guide work utilizing a Seat and guide Machine. the Seat and guide Machine allows us to do multi-angle performance valve jobs and valve work within a very tight tolerance. to assure valves are sealing 100 percent, the valve jobs are vacuum tested by the onboard tester. We are able to accomplish perfect jetting and throttle response eliminating ALL bogging without purchasing expensive after-market parts. We now also offer

DLc and Kashami coatings for suspension and engine components.

MRA: can you tell me a little bit about your suspension modification philosophy and has your philosophy changed as the bike technology has advanced?Randy: From year to year we adapt to the changes the manufacturers have made to the stock suspension components. We take apart the front and rear suspension components from all the major manufacturers and study the changes they have made so that we can maximize our modifications.

MRA: now that more people are riding 250F Four Strokes there seems to be a need to find more power. How do you service that aspect of the business?Randy: that’s why we made a substantial investment and bought a Seat and guide Machine and Flow bench. in an attempt to get more power from these machines, longevity and reliability has been compromised by modification shops that can not accurately measure and test the tolerances of the modifications. We can accurately

measure and test all modifications we make to an engine. We offer the ability to modify the engine, fine tune the sloppy factory tolerances, change compression ratios, cam shafts, and cam timing and show the customer the horse power and torque change on the Dyno upon request.

MRA: What about 450F’s, do they need engine modifications?Randy: the biggest problem we find on the 450’s is an inconsistency in the tolerances in valve guides and seats. Valve failure is the single biggest complaint and repair we deal with on both 250’s and 450’s. basically, when we do a valve job we can improve performance by 5% to 10% just by maximizing the flow of fuel and air through the engine. unfortunately, when the bike is manufactured the seats and guides are not always concentric, which means all the parts do not line up to make a clean middle point. the cleaner the middle point the longer the parts will last. this is one of the leading causes in premature valve failure.

MRA: in 2007 FastMann offered track side support and it was extremely popular. Will you continue trackside support in 2008?Randy: We will be at all the MDrA races all weekend offering tire changes, valve adjustments and other minor repairs. naturally we offer a full line of accessories including tires, tubes, spark plugs, tear offs, goggles and other race day

items. new this year we will have VP racing fuel available in our Mobile Shop and at the track on race Day. included in our trackside support, we will take your bike to the shop from the track and take it to the following race.

MRA: What goals have you set for the future of your shop?Randy: our main goal is to do quality work and continue to keep our customers satisfied and coming back to FastMann racing. We strive to keep up with the latest technology to improve performance and longevity.

MRA: What is the best way for people to ship suspension and engine components to your shop?Randy: For those within driving distance they can bring their bike or remove the components and drop them off. While they are here they can browse our accessories shop with a full line of performance parts and accessories that will satisfy even the most demanding customer. We also accept uPS, Fedex and uS Mail service daily.

MRA: What is the normal turn around for the majority of your services?Randy: one to two weeks depending on the amount of work being done. if you need services for an upcoming race weekend we will turn it around in that week.

MRA: Are there any local riders who have had success with your services that you would like to talk about?randy: this year FMr’s team riders are eric Myers #204 on a Kawasaki and Derrick Wile #114 on a Suzuki.

MRA: randy, thank you for taking the time to speak to me and the readers of Motorcycle racing Action.Randy: Your welcome and thank you!

the Hangover, i’m sure there are many out there that have unfortunately experienced that dreaded self imposed condition. in this case “the Hangover” is a good thing, that’s right and it’s the 28th year in a row that the MD comp riders have sponsored this now famous event. the Hangover race got its name because it was originally run on January 1st, the day after new Years eve and well as you would expect, many of the racers had hangovers.Hence after much contemplation and discussion the group decided to move their race back to the first Sunday after new Years. i’m sure it has helped many with their conditions and it certainly eliminated a lot of excuses as to why a guy didn’t fair so well in the race.Anyway, this years Hangover race found us on the boyer Farm in the serene hills of romney,

WV. this is a 600 acre plot of land located in what some would call paradise. it’s close enough to civilization for your everyday needs yet rural enough for 130 + racers to enjoy a day in the woods in mid winter. the weather was almost perfect as a mid season thaw left temperatures pleasant and the ground a bit unforgiving if you did decide to grab a soil sample while you were in the area.the flag dropped at exactly 12:00 noon on the first Sunday in 2008. the start of this 12 mile course was a long grassy area that tested the

horsepower on many of the machines in competition. From there racers headed into a brief woods section and the race was on. the course offered a good mix of fields and woods with some rocks and the rolling hills of West Virginia thrown in for good measure.

District 7’s Andrew tsakanikas would be the man on this day leading the two hour race from start to finish; he grabbed the lead early in the first lap and never looked back. even though the course landed in the twelve mile range it took close to 40 minutes for the leaders to complete a lap. Many racers found themselves only completing two on this day.thanks to all that made this race possible. it was a great way for many to break up the dreaded winter blues and to get some much needed seat time in. Stay tuned to www.mdcompriders.com for all of their upcoming events. Mark your calendars as they will be offering another opportunity to run this course again on April 20th with D7 HS Points on the line. Also be sure to view and purchase photos from today’s event at www.mcracingaction.com.

One Family’s StoryWebster defines contribution as: “to give jointly to others or to be partly responsible for a result”.our sport of off-road motorcycling would not be possible if not for people and families like this one. the compton Family of Haines Port nJ at this point has a rich history of contribution, or giving back if you will. Let’s start with Dan the patriarch or head of the tribe. Dan currently works as supervisor of mechanics for the burlington county Highway department. this position helps Dan shepard his flock through countless weekly events. Dan has been competing at the “A” level in most eceA enduros and hare scrambles since 1989, he is also the crew chief and head wrench for the “compton race team”Dan also leads his crew every year as a major contributor to the South Jersey enduro riders, curley Fern enduro as well as being an AMA congress member for nJ’s District 2.Dan’s partner in crime would be his wife Merle. now Merle is unique in her own right. in addition to her daytime job as payroll / health benefits administrator for the Shamong twp board of education and her natural motherly duties of raising their two now adult children , chase and courtney, in 1997 Merle decided rather than watch Dan compete, she would herself give it a shot, so instead of trading in Dan’s old KX125, Merle assumed riding duties, and she currently holds not one, but five eceA

women’s enduro championships. if this were not enough, Merle is also Secretary for both the eceA & SJer and she is the glue that holds the annual eceA banquet together. And i almost forgot the editor and chief of the eceA’s news letter “the known control”.Always helpful, Dan and Merle have also contributed two very helpful children. both chase and courtney in addition to their weekly racing and riding duties have gotten good grades in high school as well as college, and held down jobs on a regular basis. chase is currently holding on to a top three AA position in the 2007 eceA enduro series as courtney begins her first year in enduro competition, stepping away from the fulltime rigors of eceA hare scramble competition she is at this point holding a top position in the points, behind her Mom.this would be where the term” Fast Women” is actually complemented.

on top of all of that the comptons know how to overcoming adversity. back in the early spring of 2006, the compton’s awoke one morning after an intense rain storm, only to find the home had been robbed of three of the four motorcycles they were racing at the time. calls to the local and state police and their insurance company, and a lack of barking by their beloved sleeping Jack russell Jinx, left them out on their own, Merle did her own investigating to discover the home owners insurance would not cover any motor vehicle theft from their home (you may want to check your own policy), they were facing the first national enduro of the year bikeless! this is where their giving and dedication pays off; several friends (one of them being none other than Jack Penton, son of Penton founder, and off-road legend in his own right John Penton provided them with bikes to compete on until they could gather the funds to replace the bikes. After the national Dan, Merle, chase and courtney and friends walked the local woods and found Merles 200, blown up with straight gas. by June they managed to purchase Dan and courtney two new scoots along with a complete engine rebuild of Merles bike.but wait we are not done yet! About one week after the new bikes arrived, yet another rain storm, another sleeping guard dog, and abracadabra! they awake to find three more bikes gone! With a total of 6 bikes stolen and no help from anyone,

most would just give up. but not the compton’s. Merle became an amateur sleuth, she provided the police with lead after lead including suspect’s mug shots, until finally they received a call that they found c o u r t n e y ’ s first bike in the Ph i l a d e l p h i a p o l i c e i m p o u n d , v i r t u a l l y destroyed. Months

later Merle ever vigilant, learns that the Philadelphia police had recovered Dan’s second bike in a chase and consequent crash with a police car, by whom? none other than the suspect who Merle had given the police a mug shot of. now all through this they never missed a race, if Dan did not have a ride he would provide amazing pit support for not only his family but anyone who needed assistance. by the end of the season Merle had won yet another eceA Women’s championship. both courtney and chase along with Dan and Merle can and will be found weekly at eceA events, either running a check, cutting trail or scoring cards, as well as competing at the top of their sport. not to mention they are just nice people, as well as good friends! Make sure you say hi to them all at the next east coast enduro event!

American journalist guyb from www.vitalmx.com had broken the news that Youthstream will be running a united States grand Prix in the near future and also the Motocross of nations will return to America in 2010. Here is what guyb put up on his website.

bet you’re wondering what’s happening with the bid process on the u.S. nationals, the possibility of future MX gPs here in the u.S., and when we might see the Motocross of nations here again?

Well, we had a chance to sit down to dinner with giuseppe Luongo tonight, and we’ve got some answers for you.

the AMA’s deadline to submit a bid was on 1/15/08, and from what we understand, there are multiple entities involved in the bidding process (not just Youthstream or the nPg).

the AMA will now go over the submissions, and we should expect a decision by mid-February. giuseppe also announced that Youthstream will be opening a u.S. office soon, whether they have the winning bid for the u.S. nationals or not.

Why?

expect a grand Prix here in the u.S. in 2009, a gP and Motocross of nations in 2010 (think a late September date for the gP, since the MXon is usually the last week in September).

this one is also 99% likely to also host the Supermoto of nations during the same week, making it a sort of off-road olympics. okay, are you ready to absorb more? Starting in 2011, you’ll get two grand Prix events per year in the u.S., and the MXon will return in both 2013, and 2016.

Where will the races be held?

We couldn’t wrangle out many hints, other than one of the facilities is an existing track that’s east of the Mississippi, but it’s not part of the existing nationals schedule. the other track will be built along with substantial investment from a new partner, and the events will alternate between the two.

the final tidbit of news is that Youthstream is in close negotiations with a “top three” network for tV coverage. there will be plenty of room for u.S. rider entries in the gPs, and with some attractive tV coverage, these races could be very interesting…particularly if the championships haven’t been wrapped up by the time the grand Prix events happen here.

that’s the scoop for now, and now we wait to see what happens with the AMA bid process. one thing’s for sure, we’re going to see a whole lot more of the european stars on this side of the Atlantic.

Looking for a family oriented place to ride and practice on the week-ends? nestled in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania you’ll find the Weekend Warriors riding club. this is a practice / riding facility that opened up in the spring of 2007 to allow a legal place for the local riders to enjoy the sport they love. the track is about a mile in length, featuring a double horse -shoe, 8 or 9 jumps and a whoop section. You won’t find anything real aggressive at Weekend Warriors, just a place for riders and families to have a great time rid-ing on the weekends.

Weekend warriors is currently closed for the winter, but they’ll be up and running and ready for business come spring. they are open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 9-3 and the cost to ride is $25.00 per day. You’ll find them about 20 minutes off the Lehighton exit of the n.e extension of the Pennsylvania turnpike. they recommend you call ahead to confirm conditions at: (610) 681-6175.

Hanover, Pa”: Harrisburg will host the 30th edition of Motorama. Spectator doors will open on this midwinter extravaganza, Saturday from 9am to 10pm and Sunday from 9am to 5pm. this is the time for all the motorheads to get their fix

before the spring thaw. Motorama combines two huge indoor shows with the excitement of live racing, all in the heated 30-acre complex. the Main Hall at the south end is home to the Speed Show. Stroll down the isles to see over 400 race and show vehicles, vendors, collectibles and simulators.

Vote for your favorite vehicle by supporting our charity, the Spina bifida Association. With the support of Motorama and the voting public, over $200,000 has been raised over the last 8 years.

on the Show stage will be the ever-popular Ms. Motorama Pageant along with several acoustical groups performing throughout the weekend. Ms. Motorama 07, Kristin Fowble, will hand over her crown during the Pageant finals from 11am to 12:30pm Sunday. Show vehicle awards will be presented at 4pm.

the new expo Hall will be ground zero for the tunerwar Sport compact & bike Show. this Saturday only show at the north end of the complex is sponsored by Scion and will be the first n.c.c.A. judged show in the northeast. this year’s theme will be “bridge the gap Movement” and will feature the _ million dollar bel Air and Fto bridge the gap display and the unveiling of the Veilside Mustang. Along with 300 of the east’s finest sport compact cars and bikes, there will be vendors, demonstrations by the big t Motorcycle Stunt team and 2007 u.S. national trials champion Mike Steidley.

As part of the MMc12 Music conference, there

will be 8 live bands playing on the stage all day long and hosted by corissa Fur. At 6:30pm on the stage will be a bikini contest and the best of show awards will be presented at 8pm.

As always, the indoor racing provides the adrenaline for the 30,000 Motorama fans. the must see spectacle is the two days of high flying arenacross action in the 8000 seat Large Arena. Some of the best motocross and AtV riders in the northeast will battle, handle bar to handle bar, while trying to tame the dirt jumps. returning for what could be his final performance, is national rodeo clown, “Hot rod” bobby cox. His hyjinx insures that even intermission will be entertaining.

the return of remote control offroad racing last year was a big hit. Don’t let their size fool you, these nitro burning 1/8 scale buggies, truggies and monster trucks, run like the big boys without the driver. they are radio controlled from a 10-foot driver’s stand and refueled during the race by a one-man pit crew. All the action takes place in the 1200 seat equine Arena. if it’s oval racing

you like, you have two options. in the northeast building there will be over 200 go karts competing on the 1/10th mile concrete oval. racing is intense with 6-second lap times. the kids are the main attraction in the northwest building. See boys and girls from ages 5 to 14 years of age test their skills on the concrete oval. these kids are serious about their racing and are the future stars of the sport.

Destruction is the attraction in the Small Arena. this is robot conflict territory and run by the northeast robotics club. All the robots are entered in a bracket according to their weight. two bots enter a plexiglass enclosed arena and battle for 3 minutes. the winner goes to the next round.

the 2008 edition of Motorama is the largest event of its kind in the northeast and is a sure cure for cabin fever. As always, all seats are general admission and all scheduled activities are included. For advanced tickets, a complete schedule of events, vendor and exhibitor information, visit www.motoramaevents.com or call 717-359-7056.

MOTORCYCle ANd ATV MAINTeNANCe:

service between the serviceBy: Tommy PickupGeneral Manager/Service TechnicianTNT Cycles – www.tntcycles-atv.com

We here at TNT Cycles hear it all the time after some expensive repair … “I didn’t know I had to grease that, clean that or change that”? With so many new riders entering our sport each year, it is important that we “seasoned” riders share some of our hard-earned experiences regarding maintenance. It is also important that we do not use the car mentality of maintenance. Your motorcycle or ATV is subjected to extreme off road conditions that require stepped up maintenance … or expensive service repairs. Here is a small list of helpful tasks that you should perform between your regularly scheduled service intervals.

engine Oil:This is the lifeblood of your engine and should be treated as such. This is also one of the most misunderstood lubricants. “Should I run petroleum or synthetic,” “can I run any engine oil?” And the list of questions goes on. Which oil is better and the like are beyond the scope of this article. Here is what I will tell you; follow the manufacture recommendations on viscosity and type. If you’re not sure or can’t find out from your dealer, I recommend a quality motorcycle or ATV specific oil to my customers. This oil is rated MA, meaning it meets JASO T903 ratings. Here is what to definitely avoid … any oil with Molydebendum or oils rated EC. EC means energy conservative and has slippery additive that could induce clutch slippage. Now the famous question … how often should I change my oil. Well that depends on several factors. The first is your style of riding. Do you race on the weekends? Do you simply trail ride? Etc., etc. Here is the skinny; if you race, the oil should definitely be changed after your weekend of fun. Now if you just go out and play on the trails, I would recommend every 20 gallons of fuel or couple weekends. At the bare minimum you should change your oil every six- (6) months.

Air Filter Maintenance:This is another biggy. A lot of rider’s neglect the air filter and only have it serviced when they take their unit to the dealer for its regularly scheduled maintenance, (you do take it for regular maintenance … don’t you?). This is your only protection against the small particles of dirt that try to enter your engine through the intake system and cause premature engine wear. This should be cleaned after every two- (2) tanks of fuel or after every good ride.

There are basically three different kinds of filtration systems available on today’s units; paper, gauze and foam. The way you clean them are simple … but also depends on which filter you have. 95% of all new units come with a foam type filter. To clean these simply use an airfilter specific cleaner (found at your local dealer), and follow the cleaners direction. I prefer an environmentally safe cleaner, like Simple Green, mixed in a 50/50 ratio with water. Also, you can use good old soap and hot water. Work the cleaner into to foam with your hands taking care not to be too rough on the filter so as to tear it. (caution: Read directions of the cleaning agent to make sure you do not need gloves to protect yourself from the chemicals in the can). Once the filter is washed, whip it dry so as to fling excess water out. Try to avoid squeezing it as that can work little dirt particles deeper into the filter and also you could tear it. Next, let the filter air dry. After it is dry apply a good coat of airfilter specific oil. No engine oil or WD-40, they will not work here. Again, your local dealer should have on hand airfilter specific oil. Take care not to apply too much oil, as that could cause the filter to flow less air, causing a rich running condition. Again, follow the directions on the can. Finally, apply quality grade waterproof grease to the part of the airfilter that seals against the airbox.

The other filtration system you might encounter is a gauze type filter. K&N Air filters are famous for this design. Again, we want to use a cleaner that is safe for the filter (ask the manufacture if your not sure), and use a tooth brush and gently scrub the filter. Use some compressed air and back blow the filter. (This means to blow air in the opposite direction of normal engine airflow). Again, let air dry, lube it up, apply some grease, and away you go.

The most unlikely filtration systems on ATV’s (I have never seen them on dirtbikes), is the paper filter. This is like a regular car air filter and I have seen them in limited capacity. These must simply be back blown with compressed air, as you can not get them wet.

Grease:The primary function of grease is to seal out water and dirt, and provide lubrication to moving components. The main components that require grease are:

ATVs:

• Air filter’s sealing edge.

• Upper and lower A-Arms

• Wheel Bearing & Seals

Swingarm and suspension linkage

• Any additional grease fitting on the chassis or specified in owners manual

dIRT BIkes:

• Air filter’s sealing edge

• Swingarm and linkage pivot bolts & bearings

• Wheel Bearings & Seals

• Steering head bearings

• Any additional points recommend by the owner’s manual.

Also, the question arises about which type of grease should be used. My first answer is to follow the manufacture recommendations; which usually call for moly type grease; (moly grease contains molybdenum disulfide). For all bearings and chassis pivot points, I really like Bel Ray Waterproof Grease. I have used this stuff for years with excellent results. It comes in 1 lb. tubs and round tubes for large grease guns; so you get the best of both worlds. The main thing here is to get yourself a manual and follow the maintenance schedules for greasing your unit or at least twice a year.

electrical Connections:All electrical connections should be cleaned at least once a year. Simply pull the connectors apart, spray them with a little contact or electrical cleaner, and apply some dielectric grease (found at your local auto parts store). This will help

eliminate dirt and corrosion that builds up between connectors that causes increased resistance and thus could lead to electrical failure; costing several green stamps.

Also, for you guys out there that still have the good old two strokes, one additional spot for you to clean is under the flywheel cover. Simply remove the cover and spray a little contact cleaner in there to remove water and moisture. This should be done after every ride or every time you wash the bike. Apply a light coat of waterproof grease to the rubber gasket and reinstall. I do not recommend silicon sealer or anything like it, because you should be performing regular maintenance on this item. As long as the rubber gasket is in good shape (i.e., not torn) simply apply some waterproof grease and evenly torque the cover down.

Chain:After each ride you should service your chain. Simply spray the chain with some type of decreaser and scrub it with a wire brush. There are several manufactures that make a really neat brush specifically designed for this task. Do not use your powerwasher for this task as it only serves to drive dirt into the chain rollers; were you don’t want it. After you spray the chain with degreaser and scrub it clean, rinse it with water to remove all the degreaser. Then apply a water displacement chemical (WD-40), to remove excess water. Apply a good quality chain lube or wax and your ready to go get it dirty again.

In closing, I know there are many topics that I did not cover. However the focus of this article was to bring the big issues to the forefront. If some of you guys are already doing this much that is great. You probably have a unit that performs great every weekend. If you are not performing this maintenance or can not, take it to your local shop … they will be more than happy to. Also, if you are interested in learning this stuff, we here at TNT Cycles hold free maintenance classes that cover this stuff with a more hands on approach. Also, please remember that working on your unit can be dangerous. You deal with chemicals that are flammable and corrosive. The unit can fall and injure you, so please, if you are doubtful about performing any of the tasks, seek the help of a qualified technician.

ToXins and Your Body Motocross is an extremely difficult sport which demands dexterity, strength and endurance from every rider who steps up to the starting gate. With the holidays well behind us it is time to start preparing for spring and the new racing season that is ahead. Many of us have likely become lethargic with the onset of winter even though it is still important to go outside and be active if you are to have a strong start to the upcoming season. even if you do not feel bold enough to brave the cold air there are still many things you can do to keep the blood moving. (Yoga is an excellent indoor activity) everyone has some amount of toxins that are built inside our bodies. Whether you like it or not we can take a tissue sample from either fat or cartilage in your body, and find some amount of Mercury, Lead, DDt and a number of other toxic heavy metals or pesticides that once ingested stay in your body and are very hard to get rid of. the number one thing that gets rid of these toxins is exercise and movement, so be glad that you are involved in a sport that works both your cardiovascular system and muscular system. Keeping active is an essential part of being healthy because a sedentary lifestyle will make it easy for your body to absorb these toxins into muscle tissue. this is partly due to the fact that many parts of our body do not become properly oxygenated unless we breathe deeply and take in full breaths. this will make it harder for you to move around and it can even accelerate many aging processes within the body. it is a simple fact that we grow older faster with a lower activity level. Luckily there are many things that anyone at any age can do to not only feel better, but to perform better as well. one of the largest sources of toxins that we encounter is the food we eat. conventionally crops are grown with pesticides to kill weeds, insects and disease agents and fertilized with chemicals to ensure large yields. both the pesticides and fertilizers are derived from oil and natural gas. Most of the crops that are grown conventionally also utilize a different type of plant called a gMo. gMo stands for genetically Modified organism. gMo plants are created a few different ways. one way is by inserting a gene from another organism into a plant giving it a unique characteristic. A relatively harmless example is the gene from a canary was inserted into a rose to make it produce a yellow flower. Most gMo’s are called so because the plant contains a pesticide resistance gene that allows it to be immune to the herbicide round-up. this means that farmers can spray round-up throughout the growing season directly on to the plant without any worry of injury. However, almost any and every food crop has a gMo variety that is grown and in use today. the scariest part about gMo plants is that companies and growers are not required to label gMo food products. the result of this is that most of the food produced commercially and bought in the grocery store is likely to be a gMo.

this is only one example of a source of toxins in an average diet for there are many other such as bgH in milk and beef, mercury in certain types of tuna, MSg in snack foods and fluoride in tap water. these types of food can create many adverse health conditions as certain pesticides or other chemicals build up in the body over time. one of the best ways to reverse this process is to cut out the toxins that you could be ingesting, and begin to eat organically produced foods. organically certified foods are grown with absolutely no pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics or artificial hormones. instead farmers rely on the natural ecosystems and symbiosis that are inherently present in nature to produce natural quality products. A plus about organically grown produce is that organic plants work harder for their nutrients which make them produce more secondary metabolites like vitamins, en-zymes and amino acids. this means that not only are organic foods free of toxins, but they are healthier for you too. this will help rid the body of the toxins which are already present. When i travel and do not get to eat organic food i always feel a difference in my body and energy level. A balanced organic diet is essential to a healthy life and strong body, which is the essential key when participating in a sport like motocross.
