ACHIEVEMENTS:

Achievements in the project entitled “Use of nuclear techniques for colonization and production of egg and larval parasitoids”.

Increase the incubation period of Sitotroga cerealella (host of parasitoids) from 3-7 days. It is breakthrough in the rearing of parasitoids and host.

Enhancement parasitic potential of parasitoids and host.

Prolonged the storage of biocontrol agents through the use of nuclear techniques in conjunction with low temperature.

Induced resistance in biocontrol agents against pesticides by the application of nuclear techniques.

Achievements in IPM of sugarcane borers:

Established parasitoid rearing laboratories in Al-Noor Sugar Mills, Habib Sugar Mills Nawabshah, Fauji Sugar Mills Khoski, Mehran Sugar Mills Tando Allahyar, Nawazabad Farms Mirpur khas, Matiari Sugar Mills Matiari, Tassco Seed Corporation Tando Allahyar, Ranipur Sugar Mills Khairpur Mirus and Pangrio sugar Mills Badin.

With the establishment of these laboratories biocontrol programme has been extended to eight districts of Sindh.

During 2011 seasons, an area of 10, 5000 hectares of sugarcane was treated successfully with bio control technology. The parasitoids effectively manage the infestation of sugarcane borer below economic threshold level.

During 2011-12 Rs. 338 million were saved in the head of pesticides in the above eight Distt.

Achievements in IPM of cotton pests:

Developed a full package based on biocontrol technology for cotton pests using Trichogramma against bollworms and broad spectrum egg/ larval predator Chrysoperla carnea for sucking pest.

Developed artificial larval diet for Chrysoperla carnea for the first time in Pakistan.

An area of 600 hectares of cotton was treated successfully with biocontrol technology at two different sites of Hyderabad district; and Rs.2.5 million were saved in the head of pesticides.
