Teenage Work Restrictions

Missouri's child labor law provides guidelines to

employers who employ 14 and 15-year olds.

For example, work certificates are required before

employment begins; the certificates are issued

by the local public school superintendent's

office. (At our school, the high school office

has work certificates)

In addition, there are time and hour restrictions for

14 and 15-year olds.

Most important, there are prohibited

occupations listed (such as

which teens, parents, employers

and school superintendents need

to be aware.

Workplace Statistics

• Since 1950, the U.S. population has increased 50%. We now have 125

million more mouths to feed and people to service than we did in

1950.

• Between 2000 and 2030, the U.S. population will

grow another 26%. In part, this growth will come from new births and immigration.

But a significant portion will be a result of people living

longer…and longer.

• The United States is not alone. Nearly every developed country—

including England, Germany, Japan and Italy—simply won’t have

enough young people to take care of their exploding aging

populations.

• By 2015, we will have a 6% shortage of people in the

workforce to fill all of the new jobs.
