“Jackie had three separate rooms for us up there, with thoughtful touches in each, like scented lotion and a vase of fresh-cut flowers on my nightstand” (28).

Jackie took the time to add thoughtful touches to each room in order to make her guests feel welcome. Even though Cody and Shannon are strangers, she still did her best to make them feel at home.

“No doubt the night-lights had helped. Jackie had come up with three: one for his room, one for the hall, and one for the bathroom across from Neal’s door” (29).

Jackie had to go out of her way to find the night-lights and put them in areas for Cody. This also shows that Jackie was thoughtful enough to consider the fact that Cody is still troubled by nightmares about 9/11. The night-lights could help him if he got scared in the middle of the night.

“’Tyler’s on probation. From juvenile court. One of the thing Jackie does here, besides working with the animals, is help kids who’ve gotten into trouble’” (p. 59). This evidence shows that Jackie goes out of her way to

help kids who have gotten into trouble. In the case of Tyler, Jackie has even invited a convicted animal abuser into her clinic. She does this because she is thoughtful and believes that people deserve a second chance.

Each of these examples from the story illustrates Jackie’s desire to make sure that her friends, family, and employees are all comfortable and cared for. She is thoughtful enough to put others before herself. Whether she is engaging with animals or humans, Jackie is always thinking about what she can do to help.

RATES ParagraphJackie is a woman who demonstrates thoughtfulness at every opportunity. When Shannon

and Cody first arrived at Jackie’s, Shannon noticed, “Jackie had three separate rooms for us up there, with thoughtful touches in each, like scented lotion and a vase of fresh-cut flowers on my nightstand” (28). Jackie took the time to add thoughtful touches to each room in order to make her guests feel welcome. Even though Cody and Shannon are strangers, she still did her best to make them feel at home. Jackie also gave extra thought to Cody’s needs, "No doubt the night-lights had helped. Finally, Jackie is always thinking about ways to help troubled-youth – even people who haven’t earned it. “’Tyler’s on probation. From juvenile court. One of the thing Jackie does here, besides working with the animals, is help kids who’ve gotten into trouble’” (p. 59). This evidence shows that Jackie goes out of her way to help kids who have gotten into trouble.
