Tough Talk—Unpacking the Myths of Work/Life Balance Is work/life balance possible in a 24/7 global environment? The importance of establishing work/life balance is touted repeatedly in the news, books and seminars, yet few executives and managers ever attain it. While there is no perfect formula, perhaps one of the keys to work/life balance is to have a work/life strategy. Know your goals personally and professionally, understand your limits, and determine what you’re willing and not willing to compromise. This session, co-facilitated by an ELC member and spouse, will help you set goals that are compatible with your lifestyle, and assemble the resources necessary to achieve the best results. Herman E. Bulls Herman Bulls is an International Director and the founder and Chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Public Institutions business, which delivers comprehensive real estate solutions to public entities. Additionally, he works with large corporate clients to devise and implement real estate strategies as well as reviews merger and acquisition opportunities for the firm. Bulls completed almost 12 years of active duty service with the Army, including assignments at West Point as Assistant Professor, in the Republic of Korea and the Pentagon. Additionally he founded Bulls Advisory Group and Bulls Capital Partners, a Fannie Mae multifamily lending joint venture with SunTrust and Goldman Sachs as successive partners. He is a retired Army colonel. Bulls serves on public, private and not for profit boards, including Comfort Systems, USA, Exelis, Rasmussen College, USAA and Vice Chair of the West Point Association of Graduates. He is also a member of the Real Estate Advisory Committee for New York State Teachers' Retirement System. Bulls is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, and former Chairman of the Executive Leadership Foundation. He received a BS degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a MBA in finance from Harvard Business School. Iris Bulls Mrs. Iris Bulls serves as Deputy Director for the Defense Language & National Security Education Office within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. Mrs. Bulls advises the Director and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness, who also serves as the Department of Defense (DoD) Senior Language Authority (SLA), on all matters related to foreign language capabilities in the Department of Defense. Mrs. Bulls' previously served as a member of the Defense Language Transformation Team. She was one of six military officers, from the Army, Navy and US Air Force, who developed the Defense Language Transformation Roadmap which provided Deputy Secretary of Defense level guidance for foreign language policy, programs, funding and training. As a Federal employee, Mrs. Bulls first served as a program analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for quality of life programs. She later served two years as a Presidential Appointee in the Clinton

Iris Bulls

Mrs. Bulls has a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. She has three sons two of whom are serving in the military as commissioned officers and one who is a manager with Sodexho.
