Currently, HbbTV applications mostly require customized implemen- tations. Therefore MPAT takes up the concept of web-page creation tools like WordPress, which allow users to easily build a web site from pre-defined templates and plug-ins, and adapts it to HbbTV.

Depending on the broadcaster’s workflow, the resulting HbbTV application can be directly served by MPAT or exported to an existing production system. Applications relating to the TV and video are then ready to be usable on any device at any time, allowing a seamless transition from the live TV experience to on-demand consumption.

MPAT allows content creators to produce HbbTV applications in a cost-e�icient way while removing worries about compatibility with existing devices. The toolkit provides tested templates and plug-ins that can be easily adapted to a channel or programme design. A set of plug-ins allows the provision of common application features ‘out of the box’.
