include new FC, FD, FE, GT, FG, GH, FL, FM8J and FM1A models – all designed to offer improved performance and reduced fuel consumption.In response to market demand, the FE has been designed to transport heavier and more varied loads. It replaces the GD model and is offered in both 12,000kg and 14,000kg GVM ratings.The new FE models have 19.5” wheel rims and low-profile tyres to achieve the low chassis frame height many operators require for ease of loading access and to meet occupational health and safety requirements.The FC 10,400kg GVM range now includes a new model with a wheelbase of 4650mm to better suit local freight applications where there is greater demand on weight

The Toll Group has bought WA trucking contractor Mitchell Corp
for around $110 million, entering the booming resources trade in Western Australia.Toll announced the acquisition in a statement to the share market, describing it as an “exciting” growth opportunity for the group. Mitchell Corp provides its customers with transport services in the bulk resources, hydrocarbons and dangerous goods market segments.“The continuing development of the WA resources industry is globally significant and offers Toll important growth opportunities in a number of our businesses,” Toll managing director Paul Little said.
“The Mitchell business is the second largest player in its sector in the Western Australian market. It will be an important part of our Global Resources Division where it will provide Toll with a strong base in the WA resources market complimenting our mining services operations in other states and creating service opportunities for other Toll businesses,” said Mr Little.“Mitchell Corp has a strong reputation as a quality innovative resources transport provider. It has a premium customer base and a unique range of well maintained assets,” added Mr David Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Toll Global Resources. “It provides us with a strategic market position in a growth sector and the opportunity
to further improve and grow that business.”Private equity-backed Mitchell Corp had been looking to sell the business as part of AMP Capital’s exit strategy for the business since buying a stake in 2003. The Mitchell family and AMP collectively control about 80 percent of the company, which generates annual revenue of approximately $175 million. Toll expects the acquisition to be earnings per share accretive in its first year.The $110 acquisition, which was finalised last week, is subject to clearance by the competition regulator. ■

Scania is launching its first Euro 6-compliant engines, announcing
that performance and fuel consumption will remain comparable to current Euro 5 engines.Starting 31 December 2012, all new truck models sold in the European Union must meet the new Euro 6 emission standards. A year later, the same will apply to existing models, and sales of Euro 5 engines will be phased out.But even today – more than two years before the law requires it – Scania has two engine alternatives that fulfil the new standards and are ready for launch. These engines make it possible for keen operators to take the next step and invest in the greenest technology available in the market. They will be able to benefit from lower motorway charges and other incentives that may be introduced by authorities. Another bonus is that vehicles with the latest emission standard also command a higher value in the second-hand market.”We want to be ready as early as possible to offer these new engines to our customers,” says Gunnar Nyfjäll, product manager for Scania long-haulage trucks. Six-cylinder 13-litre engines featuring 440 and 480 horsepower will be available in Euro 6 versions for the G- and R-series truck ranges. Thus Scania will cover a large proportion of customer applications in the long-haulage and construction fields.Scania’s Euro 6 engines are based on the new modular engine platform that was introduced in 2007. The driving experience will be
unchanged, featuring good torque at low revs. Building them with the Scania modular product system simplifies development work as well as servicing and parts management.The biggest difference is the entirely new exhaust gas aftertreatment system that is built into the silencer. This includes a particulate filter and twin selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts with an advanced AdBlue dosage system that reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) content.According to the Euro 6 directive, the permitted NOx level is only a
fifth as much as with Euro 5, and the particulate level is less than half. In addition, particulate matter will be counted according to a new method, and the limitation on the particle count will mean that a vehicle needs to be equipped with a particulate filter. The new Scania engines fulfil these emission levels by a wide margin.
