NEW CHAIRMAN FOR CMG

congratulations to Rod Seeland, BCL’s Managing Director

and new Chairman of the BAR-CMG ( British Association of Removers, Commercial Moving Group. Rod takes over from Ian Studd who has held the post for the last two

years.

Rod joined the CMG Council in 2003 which has evolved mainly through the efforts of the long serving Council members into a pro-active group providing innovations for the commercial

moving industry.

The Council meets at least three times a year to discuss issues that affect the industry and make sure that CMG members are promoted within the Facilities Management world and are repre-

sented fully on the BAR council.

Rod’s Blog , a brief history….. Rod has 30 years experience in the Removals industry, it all started in 1979 working on the vans for a local removal company in Lincoln, his home town. He then joined Pickford's in 1981 as part of their management trainee pro-gramme. Rod had nine years with Pickford's, rising through the ranks to be-come a Branch Manager. 1994 Rod was given an opportunity to work for Bri-tannia Bradshaw and in 97 started the companies’ commercial moving division known as BCL.. Following the successful development and growth of the com-

pany Rod was appointed BCL Managing Director in 2008.

Rod takes an active role in the BAR North West area and was voted Chairman

CMG in 2008.

Rod has now lived in Manchester for the last nine years and regularly attends Old Trafford to watch Manchester United. Rod also enjoys a walk round the golf course ( sometimes hitting the ball ) ed, and travelling to distant lands with

his partner Angela.

Rods goals…….

Hoping to achieve and develop a fully funded commercial moving apprenticeship to attract new blood into the moving in-

dustry and provide a clear career path.

Develop through training quality standards which will help all CMG members achieve

their targets.

Awareness of the CMG in the marketplace

will be an ongoing theme.

To raise the overall standard of the industry which will provide a quality service to all

clients.

One of the requirements for membership to the CMG is achieving the quality standard PAS126. This is soon to be upgraded to a full British

Standard and will be named BS8522

Cleaner air from reduced emissions could save millions of lives, says report

Researchers predict that, by 2050, about 100 million premature deaths caused by respiratory health problems linked to air pollution could be avoided through measures such as low emission cars. One step the UK Government has taken is the introduction of the £2000

allowance against the purchase of a new car providing you scrap one over 10 years old. To date 35000 have taken up this offer.

INTEREST FREE LOANS

The Carbon Trust has begun offering £100m in interest free loans to businesses that are investing in energy-efficient plant and machin-ery. Approx 763 businesses secured loans last year and the trust expects to double that number this year following the Governments

decision to increase the trust loans fund in the budget. For further details

MEET THE STAFF - welcome to the graduates

Dave Shewring & Paul Flowers

Dave joined BCL in April 2009 as a graduate from the University of Chester to work in sales with both the Britannia and BCL divisions in the Manchester office. During University Dave worked full time as a bar and club duty manager as well as running his own indie student night including getting bands to play for him such as The Enemy, The Wombats and The Pigeon Detectives. After working in the night life trade during and just after graduating it was time for Dave to finally grow up and undertake a proper job where 6am was not a regular time to finish work for “the day”! Dave's’ interests outside of work include playing competitive cricket in the summer, weekend nights out

with various friends and different alcoholic concoctions .
