  • When you move, it is important to pack all of yourhousehold items properly so they dont get damaged.Following the packing tips below will help you to makeyour move go as smoothly as possible. In general, you will want to label all of your boxes as to theroom that they belong in and what is in the box. You shouldalso label whether the box is fragile and note which side ofthe box is the top. Write this information on the side of thebox, and not the top, so movers will be able to see it whilethe boxes are stacked. TeamSmartMove All Rights Reserved Page 2
  • When packing, it can be helpful to pack one room at atime, but some people prefer to start out by packing thethings that they dont use often and then the things thatare used more frequently. It is best not to mix items frommultiple rooms in the same box, however. Aim to keepeach box at a weight of less than 50 pounds, and stackboxes of similar size and shape together when possible.Speaking of boxes, it is often a good idea to buy movingboxes, even though you can sometimes get boxes for freefrom the recycling or from businesses, friends andneighbors. When you buy moving boxes, you will know thatthey are sturdy enough for your purposes, and you can buyspecialty boxes made for moving certain items that can bedifficult to pack in regular boxes. Although it can add toyour expenses when you buy moving boxes, it makes it lesslikely that your belongings will be damaged. TeamSmartMove All Rights Reserved Page 3
  • As you pack your boxes, make sure to provide plenty ofpadding, especially for fragile items, which should bewrapped individually in tissue paper or newspaper. Packthe heaviest items in the bottom of the box, then putlighter items on top. Make sure that each box is full butthat it can still close with the top flat. If it isnt full, the topof the box will bend inward and it is more likely itemsinside will be squished. Fill in any gaps in the box withpadding, such as soft towels or lightweight blankets. Youcan even use clothing if you want to save on space andlimit the amount of paper you waste in the process of yourmove.Smart Move performs all sorts of moves.
