LIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY

Page 7: Move-In Guide - Davenport University

When you move into a residential community at Davenport University, you have chosen to become a part of a unique community. This community is made up of a group of diverse individuals here to pursue common educational goals and share a wide variety of experiences.

Our Shared CommunityIn choosing to live in a residential community, you have entered a community of peers in which:• Students live together in a suite or apartment• Students need to rest and to study• Studentsarechallengedtobalancetheirneedsforprivacywiththepresenceofroommates,floor-

matesorsuite/apartment-matesandtheirguests• Students are challenged to explore the right to rest, relax, and socialize while not infringing upon the

rights of others

Page 8: Move-In Guide - Davenport University

LIVING RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe rights and responsibilities of each resident are important. Housing and Residence Life provide the following in an effort to assist you as a member of our community.

RIGHTS• Right to a clean, safe, and secure living environment

• Right to a reasonably peaceful space to sleep and study

• Right to host a guest as long as polices are followed

• Right to address behaviors that infringe upon one’s rights

• Right to the assistance of a University staff member should a problem arise

RESPONSIBILITIESEach member of a community must balance their rights and responsibilities in order to thrive and succeed in any group living environment. remind others of these same expectations• Let your roommates know of preferences you have for sleep, study, and work• Discuss visitation in common areas, the hours it is acceptable to have guests, and appropriate

behavior• Know and abide by the policies, regulations, and laws of the State of Michigan, of the local

municipality, and of Davenport University• Examine and regulate your own behavior as well as being respectful and mature when if others

disagree with your behavior• Notify community members or staff of your problem in a timely manner and cooperate with them to
