Move at Home: Dinosaurs eBook Workout Millions of years ago, our world was full of dinosaurs. Some were huge and some were tiny. Some had feathers and some had horns. Have you ever wondered which dinosaurs were meat-eaters or why the Diplodocus had such a long neck?

Read the Dinosaurs eBook to find out lots of interesting facts about dinosaurs and then try the different dinosaur exercises below.

• Step forward into a forward lunge position.

• Stretch up high with both arms.

• Hold the position for 10 seconds.

• Repeat by stepping forward on the other leg and reaching up high.

Practise the different swimming strokes with your arms. Try these:

- front crawl - backstroke - breaststroke - butterfly

Be as Tall as a Brachiosaurus

Swim like an Ichthyosaurus

The first dinosaurs were herbivores (plant eaters) and were short and wide. Later, the plant eating dinosaurs developed long necks so that they could eat the leaves and branches from the tallest trees. The Brachiosaurus could grow up to 30 metres long and 15 metres high.

Over time, the legs of some dinosaurs evolved to become fins. These dinosaurs lived in the sea and were good swimmers. The Ichthyosaurus or ‘fish lizard’ had large eyes for finding food and grew to be the size of an adult man.

• This move is called the Warrior 3 pose and requires good balance.

• Balance on one leg and then bend forwards. Stretch your arms above your head.

• Stretch your back leg out behind you and hold the position for a count of three.

• Try to keep your back straight.

• Then repeat on your other leg.

• Run as quickly as you can using the space available to you.

• You might need to change direction so try moving off to the left and to the right as well.

• How quickly can you change direction to catch your prey?

Run like an OviraptorThe Oviraptor was an omnivore, which means it ate plants and other animals, such as reptiles and small mammals. There weren’t many dinosaurs that were omnivores. They had long legs to make them fast runners. Run like an Oviraptor chasing after its prey.

Fly like a PterodactylPterodactyls had long beaks with around 90 sharp teeth and could fly. Can you fly like a Pterodactyl?

Stand Strong like a TriceratopsThe Triceratops had three horns on its head to fight off other dinosaurs. It also had a frill around its head which protected its neck from predators. The name Triceratops means three-horned face. Can you stand strong in a three-point balance?

In a point balance, only a certain number of body parts should be in contact with the ground. So, in a three-point balance, three parts of your body should touch the floor, e.g. balancing on two hands and one foot.

• Try to hold the balance for a count of three.

• How many different three-point balances can you perform?

You will need at least one other person for a game of T. Rex Tag.

• One of you needs to be a fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex looking for something to eat!

• The others will be smaller dinosaurs trying to escape the T. rex.

The Tyrannosaurus rex was a terrifying, meat-eating (carnivore) predator. It had sharp claws and a large head with lots of pointed teeth. Its bite was three times stronger than the bite of a great white shark. They were fast and powerful, which helped them to catch other dinosaurs to eat.
