Apr 05 2015 : The Times of India (Delhi) Mountaineer Mastan Babu found dead Avijit Ghosh & Sachin Parashar New Delhi TNN Malli Mastan Babu, one of India's top mountaineers who grabbed the global spotlight by climbing the seven summits in the seven continents in record time, was found dead in the Andes on Friday . He was 40. The IIMC alumnus was trying to scale Cerro Tres Cruces Sur (6,749m), Chile's second highest peak, and was missing since March 24. Babu's body was spotted around 4.40pm local time on Friday . One of India's top mountain eers Malli Mastan Babu, who was found dead in his tent in the Andes, had been missing since March 24 after the weather turned ugly in Chile. Babu's friend Satyam Bheemarasetti told Times Now on Saturday that the body was located by fellow mountaineers in a tent “without life“, surrounded by snow. “From what we have heard and seen in photos, the tent was blown open and destroyed,“ says Apoorva Prasad, founder of `The Outdoor Journal', an active adventure magazine, which had been tracking Babu's disappearance. “He was almost there. It's a sad loss,“ India's ambassador to Argentina Amarendra Khatua told TOI.Babu's body will brought on a special flight to India and he will be accorded a state funeral in his native village in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. “I had sent him a Facebook post wishing him Happy Ugadi (New Year) on March 21. He wished me back. That was our last interaction,“ his sister Malli Dorasanamma told TOI over phone. Babu, also an M Tech in electronics from IIT Kharagpur, was born in Nellore but stayed with his sister, a doctor, in Tirupati.
