Outstanding School Achievements
Last week I was delighted to be invited topresent at the North East Victorian RegionPrincipal Forum our school’s outstandingschoolLiteracy methodologies and data outcomes over the previous year.
The new academic achievement data that was presented showed that inReading, the percentage of our Year 3 students maintaining or improving theirlevel in Year 5 within the top three bands of NAPLAN was 83%, a figure higherthan all other schools in the Inner East, and well above the average of 59%. InWriting and Numeracy, our results placed us in the top 20 of over 125 schools inthe Inner East Region, again with results well above the average.
We are extremely proud of these results, which are testament to the hard workand dedication of not only our teaching team, but the efforts of our studentsand community support of our rigorous academic focus.
Division Swimming Sports
On Tuesday, a group of MWNPS students proudly represented our school at theDivision Swimming Carnival. Our students performed wonderfully, with the boys’relay team moving through to the Regional Finals. Congratulations to all of thestudents on their awesome efforts.

Coronavirus Update
As the Coronavirus continues to dominate headlines, students health and wellbeing is paramount and we askfamilies to continue to follow Australian Government advice.
The Australian Government has updated existing travel restrictions to include visitors from Iran who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents. These restrictions were implemented from 1 March 2020.
The extension to existing travel restrictions for visitors from mainland China remains in place. Visitors from mainland China who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, or their dependants will not be allowed entry into Australia.
These restrictions will be reviewed by 7 March 2020.
Parents/Guardians/Carers should ensure that any child returning from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) from 1 February, and from Iran from 1 March, is isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China or Iran.
Staffing Update
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs Melissa Donelly as she commences teaching in 1/2A. Melissabrings a wealth of experience to Mount Waverley North and will be working closely with Lindsey Bates to ensureconsistency and continuity of student learning. We wish Mrs Kimberly Fitzgerald all the best as she begins herfamily leave.
School Council
Thank you to the community for communicating their interest in being a member of the 2020 Mount WaverleyNorth School Council. As we received an equal number of parent nominations as vacancies, we are delighted toannounce to the community that Bill Fitzpatrick, Lou Skepper, Jodie Cormick, Magdalena Blanch-De Wilt andZendyn Lakdavala will sit on School Council for a two year term. The Community Member will be co-opted bySchool Council at our next meeting on 18th March.
Maintaining Good Hygiene
Everyone can protect against infections by practising good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene. Here are some tips that everyone at your school can follow:
-Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow.-Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards.-Wash your hands regularly, after using the toilet, and before eating.

Student Council Representatives
Congratulations to those students elected as Student CouncilRepresentatives for Semester 1, 2020. We are confident that all studentshave the capacity to fill their roles with confidence and all will besupported by the staff and young leaders of the school.
Curriculum Day – Friday 6th March
All government schools have an allocation of four Pupil Free Days a year for staff professional learning. This yearwe used Tuesday, 28th January as the first of our Pupil Free Days. The next scheduled Curriculum Day is Friday,6th March. Students do not attend school on this day. Staff will be undertaking continued professional learningfocusing on High-Quality Literacy and Numeracy practices and High Impact Teaching Strategies that best supportthe learning of all students in our classrooms.

The Team Kids OHSC service will be available on these dates.
Parents’ Morning Tea – 9am, Thursday 12th March
All welcome to Morning Tea following Breakfast Club next Thursday. Any parents and little children are welcome to drop in for a bite to eat and a chat. It’s a time to meet up with old friends and to make some new friends. We’ll be in the hall kitchen from 9am!

Team Kids – Holiday Program
From Monday, 30th March, TeamKids will be operating from 7:00 am - 6:30 pm Monday to Friday, delivering a wonderful mix of excursions, incursions and in-house days that promise to keep the kids engaged and having fun over the school holidays.
There are a wide array of incursions and excursions planned, including Hardrock Climbing, Movies, Pizza Making, An Amazing Race and lots, lots more.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENINGMasterchefEach week this term children have formed teams to compete in a Masterchef challenge! Teams choose a recipe based off our weekly theme and compete for the best presentation, flavor and teamwork. We have seen some delicious smoothies, baked treats and even fish tacos. Join us for the last challenge on Tuesday!
Drama ClubEvery Thursday the children have been working with Randy on their improvisation skills and script writing. Next week we will begin writing scripts for our sock puppets to perform in the last week of term!
