DAYTON, Ohio, April 25, 1977 -- Robert L. Mott, a faculty member of the School
of Engineering since 1966, has been named Chairman of the Department of Mechanical
Engineering Technology for a four year term beginning July 1.
A graduate of the General Motors Institute Flint, Michigan in 1963 where he
received the degree of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, he continued his studies
at Purdue University, receiving his Master of Science in 1965.
He also completed course work in Fallout Shelter Analysis from the U.S. Office
of Civil Defense and is a certified Shelter Analyst.
Among his awards is the Ralph Teetor Educational Award sponsored by the Society
of Automotive Engineers which he received in 1969 .
Professor Mott is the author of a textbook for engineering technology students
published in 1972 by the Charles E. Merrill Co. ("Applied Fluid Mechanics "). He was
also a contributor to an additional textbook, "Statics :end Strenghhs of Materials,"
by L. Duke Golden. A new text , "Applied Strength of Materials," is due to be published
by Prentice Hall in January 1978.
Among his many academic activities at UD was a three-year term as a member of
the President's Advisory Council, a two year membership in the Academic Senate, and
chairman of the Task Force for Cooperative Education at UD.
In 1972 he was named "outstanding teacher in Engineering technology."
In addition to his academic work, ' Bob Mott also serves as an engineering consult-
ant for industry and the l egal profess: t;m.
His students have published fourteen technical articles, two of which received
first place at Ohio State and Iowa state Universities.
