What is motion?

Definition :

A Body Is said to be in motion , if it changes its position with respect to its Surrounding

OR If a body continuously changes its position with respect to some observer, then it is said to be in motion.

Types of motion:There are three different types of motion.1. Translatory Motion2. Rotatory Motion3. Vibratory Motion

Page 7: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Translatory motion

This is the type of motion in which body moves along a line without any rotation.

Page 8: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Translatory motion can be divided further into three types.

Linear motion

Circular motion

Random motion

Page 9: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Linear Motion

Motion along a straight line is called linear motion

Page 10: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Rotatory motion

If a body moves in a circular path , it is called circulatory motion.

Page 11: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Random motion

If a body moves in an irregular manner, itsmotion is called random motion

Page 12: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

Rotatory Motion

The spinning motion of a body about its axis or a fix Point, is called rotatory motion

Laws of MotionIntroduction

Sir Isaac Newton was the first to formulate the laws of motion known as Newton’s laws of motion . He was an English physicist and mathematician Newton's Principia formulated the laws of motion and universal gravitation, which dominated scientists' view of the physical universe for the next three centuries.

Newton’s First Law of Motion

The law of inertia: Every object continues in a state of rest or motion of uniform speed in a straight line unless no external force acts on it.

Page 16: Motion Presented by Mr. Saqib Taj Mr. Aqib Abbas

What is inertia?Inertia of a body is its property due to which it resists any change in its state of rest or motion.

Inertia in Action

• Rapid deceleration is sensed by the driver who lurches forward.

Newton’s Second Law of Motion

The law of acceleration:The acceleration produced

by a net force on an object is directly proportional to the net force, is in the same direction as the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass of the object.

Newton’s second law in equation form:

small net force, large mass small acceleration

large net force, small mass large

Newton’s Third Law of Motion

Law of action and reaction:Whenever one object exerts a force on a

second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first.
