Mother Hulda

The widow with her two daughters.

One was pretty & industrious / the other was ugly &lazy

The pretty one always had to work

Everyday she had to go spinning at the well

Then it happened once that the spindel was bloody

One day she cut her finger

But then the spindle fell in the water

She wanted to wash the spindle but then it fell into the well

She cried & walked to her stepmother

The stepmother said that she has to fetch it out again !

Then she jumped down into the well

She did what her stepmother told her

As she was friendly she helped the loaves

She took out all the loaves

She helped the apple tree

One by one she dropped the apples until the last one

Now the pretty girl is working for mother Hulda

First she was scared but then the girl took courage

Everyday she shook the bed to make snow on earth

The pretty girl got home-sick & talked to mother Hulda

Mother Hulda could understand her that she is missing her family

As the girl served her faithfully she send her back home through a gate

To going home the pretty & indoustrious girl had to go through a gate

Then she was covered all with gold

Because she helped much she became a great gift for it

The idle girl did what her mother told her

The ugly girl didn‘t want to help the loaves

As she knew the story from her sister she went to mother Hulda

Instead of doing her job she was rather sleeping

She neitehr shook the bed for the feathers to fly about

Mother Hulda soon grew tired of her & sent her back home

As she wasn‘t doing anything she was sent back home

She thought now the gold rain is coming

Then mother Hulda sent her back home

But instead of gold she was covered all in pitch

Mother Hulda gave her what she deserved
