Closing Bell: BSE Sensex continued its record-setting spree on Tuesday, while the Nifty traded above 9,650. NSE Nifty edged down on Tuesday after earlier surpassing the 9,700-point level for the first time, as markets took a breather from a record-hitting spree a day before the central bank’s policy meeting. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is likely to keep interest rates unchanged at 6.25% at its review on Wednesday, but likely to sound less hawkish than the last monetary policy committee meeting, according to a Reuters poll. Sentiment was also subdued after Asian shares fell amid a slew of risk factors, including escalating tensions in the Middle East, the coming testimony of the former FBI director, British elections and a European Central Bank meeting. BSE Sensex trades lower by 101 points, or 0.32%, to 31,209, while the Nifty 50 falls 34 points, or 0.35%, to 9,641. Auto stocks fall. BSE auto index loses 1.1% to trade at 24078.39 points. Tata Motors shares fall 3.5%, Bharat Forge falls 1.71%, Eicher Motors shares fall 0.32% and M&M shares are down by 0.80%. Realty stocks fall. The BSE realty index is down by 1.59% at 1943.47 points. The shares of Godrej Property are lower by 2%, DLF shares are down by 1.81%, Oberoi realty is down by 1.63%, Housing Development Infrastructure shares are down by 1.39%. BSE Sensex trades lower by 99 points, or 0.32%, to 31,211, while the Nifty 50 falls 31 points, or 0.32%, to 9,644. Tata Motors Ltd shares fall 3.2% to Rs462.8. Ravindra Pisharody, head of the commercial vehicle (CV) business at Tata Motors, stepped down on Monday after a decade with the company, citing personal reasons. Consumer durables stocks fall. BSE Consumer index declines by 2.16% to trade at 16,195 points. Titan shares fall by 5.39%, PC Jewellers shares fall by 4.75%. BSE Sensex trades lower by 81 points, or 0.26%, to 31,228, while the Nifty 50 falls 23 points, or 0.24%, to 9,652 Page Industries Ltd shares rise 5.6% to Rs15,296.50. Broking firm Credit Suisse said in its recent report that the company should benefit from GST rate of 5% for apparel below Rs1,000, represents a reduction of 3-4% compared to current taxation. It has upgraded the stock to neutral from Underperform and raised its target price to Rs15,000 from Rs12,800 a share. Anil Ambani group stocks trade lower. Reliance Infrastructure Ltd fell 1.6% to Rs483.30, Reliance Power Ltd 1.7%, Reliance Communications Ltd fell 2.9% to Rs 20.20, Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd fell 1.8%. Titan Co Ltd fell 4.2% to Rs 529.25 on profit booking after on Monday its shares gained over 18% on lower gross and services tax. Adani Enterprises Ltd shares rise 4% to Rs122.30 after the company said it will proceed with its $16.5 billion Carmichael coal project in Australia’s Queensland state after its board approved a final investment decision on the development. Cadila Healthcare Ltd rose 2.7% to Rs503.70 after the company said its formulations manufacturing facility at Baddi has got an establishment inspection report from US drug regulator.

News: State Bank of India (SBI) rose 1.4% to Rs291.45. According to ET

Now report, SBI share sale demand said to be over Rs20,000 crore. State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday said it launched the country’s largest institutional share sale programme on Monday, aiming to raise up to Rs15,000 crore as it looks to strengthen its capital base to increase loan growth as well as cushion the balance sheet from bad loans.

The merger of Grasim Industries and Aditya Birla Nuvo is expected to create an entity with revenue of Rs54,824 crore and net profit of Rs4,076 crore for FY17.

Bayer CropScience on Tuesday said that its board of directors has approved a proposal to buyback 10,20,408 equity shares of Rs 10 each from all the shareholders of the company on a proportionate basis. At Monday’s close of Rs 4,859.05, the issue amounts to nearly Rs 500 crore. Promoters of the company, who held 68.58 per cent stake in the agro chemical company as of March 31, intend to participate in the buyback offer, the company told stock exchanges.

Shares of ITC slipped over 2 per cent in Tuesday’s trade even as the company said it would sell premium fruits and vegetables and pricey processed foods that will compete directly with existing retailers and new-age grocers such as Amazon Fresh.

India Grid Trust made a muted debut on the bourses on Tuesday, as the first power sector InvIT got listed flat at Rs 100 a share. The Rs 2,250 crore initial public offering (IPO) of the InvIT, promoted by power transmission asset operator Sterlite Power Grid Ventures, was sold in Rs 98-100 range during May 17-19 and got subscribed 1.35 times.

Oil prices slid on Tuesday, hit by concerns that a political rift between Qatar and several Arab states would undermine an Opec-led push to tighten the market. Brent crude futures were trading at $49.15 a barrel, down 32 cents, or 0.65 per cent from last close. WTI crude futures dropped 32 cents, or 0.7 per cent, to $47.08 a barrel, down over 7.5 per cent from May 25.

US equities closed slightly lower on Monday, but held near record levels. The S&P500 slipped 1 per cent or about 3 points to 2,436, while the Dow Jones industrial average fell about 22 points, or 0.10% to 21,184 and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 10 points to 6,295 after reaching an all-time intraday high.

Asian stocks retreated on Tuesday after Wall Street's stumble overnight, while oil inched up amid the severing of ties with Qatar by other Arab states. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.2 per cent in early trade, pulling back from a two-year high hit on Monday. Japan's Nikkei dropped 0.4 per cent.
