Introduction

The personalities influenced me the most in my life, are the characters of television series, Star

Trek, The Next Generation. This series is produced, by Gene Roddenberry during 1980s. this

play was based on a starship named Enterprise, which is the flag ship of the organization known

as Starfleet, this organization is governed, through United Federation of Planets, this

organization is built with the collaboration of Humans, Vulcans, Klingons, Andorrans and other

species. This whole concept of this series is based on the importance of life, freedom of choice,

tolerance, and the prime directive of the Starfleet is not to interfere, with the process of cultural

development of any race outside the federation. It is shown in this, sci fi series, that the most,

appropriate, way to coexist, is to respect each others beliefs, norms, cultural implications and

also to be tolerant of the differences across the horizon, containing various, and sorts of people.

List of personalities who changed, my beliefs, values and way of looking towards life are as

Captain Jean Luc Picard

The first person, I like to introduce is Captain Jean Luc Picard, the captain of the starship

Enterprise NCC 1701 played by Patrick Stewart. This character is the most important, part of this

crew, he influenced, me in ways, that, I cannot begin to imagine. He is a very wise, logical,

emotionally stable and also concerned with the well being of his crew. Picard was often found, to

be arguing, on some ethical dilemma, on various points in time, during the course of the series.

He taught me, through his actions, that logic is the driving principle of the universe, but at the

same time he engraved, the sense of emotional understanding of others and finally he stood upfor the truth when the opposition was overwhelming. He never surrenders, his physical and

mental freedom, in front of any enemy. Picard, said to prefer death, against bowing to the foe on

various occasions

He remained unmarried, throughout, the series, and solely believed in the rules and regulations

of Starfleet, the most precious note, I feel obliged to share, that he is not a blind follower of the

rules, he believed, that the excuse of merely following orders caused a great deal of tragedies in

the human history, in the same period, he is the most distinguished diplomat, throughout the

federation, he was the part of more than 27 first contact missions, with newly discovered sentient

beings.

The captain of the flagship, is not at all a shy person, he supported, his crew to be open, while

sharing ideas, about life. As mentioned earlier, that he never stopped, analyzing the ramification

of following regulations and procedures, even his career is plagued, with reports of disobeying

orders, yet he became, the commanding officers of the best crew in Starfleet. Picard also

encouraged and supported, the people serving under his command to analyze the situation in

their own method, and then he, looks for consensus on a particular remedy for the situation at

hand.

William T. Riker

The next personality, on the list is William Riker, played by Jonathan Frakes. Riker is a serving

first officer on the ship Enterprise, his prime duty is to follow and implement the decisions,orders of his commanding officer, at the same time, he should evaluate, the logic of the

decisions, he intend to implement. In case of lack of rational judgment on the behalf of his

captain, Riker poses, the authority, to relieve the captain, and take over the control of the ship.

Picard and Riker have different personalities, in a manner of mentioning, yet they blended their

personalities in such a way, that benefitted the entire crew. Riker is basically considered as a

ladies man, due to his frequent friendly encounters, with the opposite sex. Riker could be

identified as fun loving and smiling individual even in the worst case scenarios. Riker

introduced me, with, the construct, of remaining calm and joyful in the eye of the ultimate

danger and that is the reason that he is respected and loved by the crew more than the captain.

Riker is given, the responsibility of taking care of the children onboard, the Enterprise, and he

has performed adequately well in this regard.

Lieutenant Commander Data

The next individual, presented in this brief report is Lt. Commander Data, portrayed through

Brent Spiner. And he is the Second Officer in the command hierarchy of the Enterprise This

Starfleet officer is different than others on the ship, because he is an android, created by Dr.

Soong, a Korean cybernetic engineer, for the sake of understanding he is a robot. His speed of

solving multidimensional computational problems is rated at 60 trillion operations per second.

This person guided me, to see things from a very elementary angle, Data is unable to experience

emotions, illness, fatigue, so when he sees others going through these feelings, his curiosity, to

learn about these experiences increases, but with the lack of emotional and other relevant

feelings, he turns his focus to the impartial research and comes up, with the dispassionate

conclusion, which is very hard for others to accept, in this way Data is my guide towards

dispassionate research, that I am doing on various topics, the quest of knowledge makes Data

more human, than majority of us. The relation between Picard and Data is very interesting,

because, often the captain relies on Datas analysis and considers it the fundamental part of his

decision making process

Lieutenant Worf

Lt. Worf played by Michael Dorn is an only Klingon serving in Starfleet, the imperativeness of

honor in his life in the sole motive. I noticed Worf searching for dignity in everything, from the

game of poker to the battle, with, the enemy. He is the Chief Security officer, of the Enterprise. I

have learned, the importance of honor and self respect from this person, but Picard and Riker

keep a close check on Worfs emotional state, because he usually becomes paranoid, with his

sense of honor and loses the sight of reality.

Counselor Deanna Troi

The next person on the list is Counselor Deanna Troi, played by Marina Sirtis. Deanna is a

daughter of a Human male and Betazoid female; eventually she is a part human and a partbetazoid. The people from her mother belongs, are blessed with the empathic abilities, they could

sense and judge the thoughts, attitudes and actions of others telepathically. So I noticed her

handling the situation very adequately well while counseling an emotionally disturbed person,

because Troi is experienced and emotionally very stable individual. She taught me the

importance of emotions in my life, by following her I have developed the ability to listen to

people and practice empathy. In my professional career of human resource management this

ability is a necessity, Deanna do not face resistance from others, when a making a point, it

illustrated a fundamental point in my judgment, that all sentient beings are more psychological,

than we think, if an argument is made, with accordance to our emotional, we will get influence

for sure, but Deanna also used reverse psychology as well during the course of her job .

Wesley Crusher

This character is a teen ager in the play, performed by Will Wheaton, he is an outstanding

student, in fact and straight A grade student, he also at the later stages in the show, contributed

towards, the operations of the ship. He is blessed with the qualities which other children dream

of, yet he is punctual and hard working. With the passage of time this character unfolds and his

inner and hidden qualities get revealed throughout the series, I learnt from Crusher, the

confidence to depend on myself, he has tremendous abilities, the senior staff of the ship always

supported him to trust himself and he accomplished great things during the show, after seeing

this person my belief in my abilities also flourished

Now I am shifting my focus, from the Enterprise, towards Voyager, another out-class franchise

of Star Trek universe. In this series, the star ship named Voyager is lost in the Delta quadrant of

our universe, this series features the story of Voyagers journey towards Earth, but they are

70,000 light years away from their destination. I would like to introduce the first personality

from this series, who is Captain Katherine Jane-way portrayed by Kate Mulgrew.

Captain Katherine Jane-way

She is the commanding officer of starship Voyager, on her first mission as the captain, Jane-way

and her crew is sent to arrest few outlaws in the bad lands, but she along with her crew and

beloved Voyager, pulled by the mechanism to protect an preemptive race, by an alien entity

called the care taker (watch episode 1 of season 1 of Star trek Voyager), into the delta quadrant,

where those bunch of rebels, lost their ship and joined Voyager as a consequence.

After all Jane-way, had to decide, after the inevitable death of care taker, that whether to utilize

the array, which brought them to the delta quadrant, for coming back to the alpha quadrant, but if

Jane-way, left the array intact, then it was possible, that another race could have gained control

of the array, thus eventually gaining control of the destiny of the underdeveloped people on

nearby planet.

Finally Jane-way, decided to destroy the array, and their only sure mean to the home, as a result

of this decision, more than 100 people were strangled, 70,000 light years away from home, but

Jane-way was contented, because, she saved the freedom of an entire race, at an expense of her

crews inconvenience. Jane-way and her crew showed me, that leadership is not only leading

others and enjoying the privileges of respect and honor. There is more to the leadership, than we

think; sometimes we have to make sacrifices for others when necessary.

Commander Chakotay

The next celebrity is Commander Chakotay presented by Robert Beltran, the first officer of

Voyager. I really failed to understand this Indian person, yet I am impressed with his level of

faith, he represents the door, which is open, when all others are closed, the last hope, and the

ultimate optimist.

Lieutenant Tuvok

Lieutenant Tuvok, is a Vulcan, his race consider the emotions irrelevant, yet they are very

sensitive to them, but they do not express them openly. Vulcans focus on their job most of their

life and are much disciplined people in their every aspect of life. I have learned to suppress my

anger, hate, fear and love due to this person, he always remained calm in the face of insult,

danger and even death, and he truly made me strong, because he taught me, to remain focused

on the job, in any situation.

Mr. Neelix

This individual is a Talaxian and a Chief Morale Officer of the Voyager; he is filling the place of

fun and humor in the face of certain adversary. Neelix has seen his share of difficulties in his life,

these problems made him courageous yet calm and lively, he is very much attached to the

children in the series. I have learned to live for the present and enjoy the today, rather worrying

for tomorrow from him.

Doctor

The Doctor, who is the Chief Medical Officer of the Voyager and a hologram (a computerized

entity made of light), played by Robert Picardo, he has inherited the responsibility after the death

of his predecessor. The Doctor is fundamentally programmed to assist in an urgency situation,but the nature of Voyagers catastrophe, forced him to become full time practitioner, and his

programming combines, the knowledge and experience of over five hundred doctors and

physicians. This character has amplified, the feelings to explore my hidden credentials and

abilities, because The Doctor is not activated, for that long time, that he could explore himself, so

the message from this character, is there is more in you, than you think.

Now I will include different characters from the third and the most vastly constructed show in

the collection of Star Trek, the Deep Space 9. This is the story of a Bajoran space station,

evacuated, by the occupying forces of Cardassians lately. The management and the command of

the station came in the hands of United Federation of Planets, whose representative isCommander Benjamin Sisko played by Avery Brooks, who is the first individual I need you to

meet with, from Deep Space 9

Commander Benjamin Sisko

This person suffered a loss of his family in the start of the series, and consequently thought of

resigning from the Starfleet, but eventually continued serving in the organization. Sisko is

serving as the commander of the space station Deep Space 9. He impressed me silently, because

I could not realize his influence initially, but at the later stage I realized that, he is attempting to

tell me, that whatever happens life moves on and remember the past, but do not get stuck with it.No matter what you do, the pain of the past incident remains with you, so live the life as you

want to live, fundamentally his experience and mine is very similar and he is the true reference

point for me.

Major Kira Nerys

Major Kira Nerys is a liaison officer of Commander Benjamin Sisko, designated by Bajoran

Provisional Government. This character is play through Nana Visitor. In the early stage of her

life, she was a freedom fighter engaged against the Cardessians forces, Kira (It is the tradition of

the Bajor to call the persons family first) is very energetic and blunt, she expresses herself very

openly, therefore often find herself in trouble and explaining herself. In the initial phase of the

series Sisko and his liaison officer are found fighting frequently, but with the passage of time

they get along nicely. She represented energy and passion for the planet, with which shebelonged and consequently inspired me, to do the same.

Mr. Elim Garak

This character is an exiled and discharged Cardessian Military General, played by Andrew

Robinson, living on DS9, and everyone is afraid of him, because he is the source of

remembrance of the cruel occupation period. The reality of this person has remained a mystery

for almost in the entire span of the show. Garak even spread lies about his past and the most

truthful rumor about him, is that he is a Cardessian spy, but in reality he is not. He taught me

how to face the opposition with the smile, and spend time with the enemies, and control the

negative emotions, he is the most appropriate reference for an unpopular change manager and

leader.

At this stage of the report, I would like to introduce some real individuals who have helped me in

understanding the life.

Abdul Sattar Edhi

Edhi is world renown humanitarian from Pakistan. He worked for people throughout his life, and

sacrificed his own needs for a greater good; he is the man of great character, which is the essence

of leadership. I consider him the most important personality in Pakistan, because he is the most

beneficial person to the humanity in Pakistan. He is not well educated, but he is a better person

than most of us. He saved, developed and enhanced the lives of trillions of people across the

globe. Edhi is the true representation of Islam; Islam is the name of peace, harmony and growth

for the humanity not the other way around. Leadership does not emanate from formal authorityor powerful speeches it comes from the actions, and Abdul Sattar Edhi is the true portray of

leadership and he taught me to live for others, rather than for myself.

Ms. Arfa Karim

The next individual on the list is our little genius, named Arfa Karim. She is the youngest

Microsoft certificated programmer and professional in the world, her love for computer systems

has made her the highly distinguished professional in her field. She guided everyone that in the

face of passionate energy age and experience becomes irrelevant. She has given a message to me

and to the entire world, that dedication in the only path to success, the main reason for her

greatness is, her tendency to enjoy and feel happiness during her work and she has became the

true example for our youngsters. She is the embodiment of the phrase Workis worship, not the

vice versa

Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed

Ashfaq Ahmed is the renowned play writer of Pakistan, he has written some outstanding plays

in our television history, he is although very difficult to comprehend, yet he has a profound

effect of my life, because I have started watching his plays in a very early age of my life,

because I have gotten aligned with his ideas and idea execution strategies. The sole message of

his work is that, the happiness in life is short lived, but the concept of gloom is not. This is the

motive of life I consider the most appropriate. Especially in his work known as Talkeen Shah, in

which he assumed a negative role to highlight the positive attitudes and beliefs in the society

commonly known as reverse psychology.

Mr. Shoaib Mansoor

This individual is a well known writer, director, producer and the savior of Pakistan film

industry, by his two blockbusters in the span of five years. He is profoundly appreciated by our

people due to his touching and reality based topics. He inspired me to express my original

feelings in the face of vigorous opposition. Shoaib is very bold, to truly represent our culture,

norms and misconception about Islamic teachings, according to him the real meaning of Islam is

in the practical terms, rather than beard. This is very important for our society to be open and

this man is playing an invincible role in doing so. In 1990s his play named Alpha Bravo Charliehas won the hearts of an entire nation.

Brain Charles Lara

This man is a great cricketer in my personal understanding and an excellent sportsman; he was

very energetic in field, his vital innings for his country, made West Indies, and the super power

in the ground of cricket. Lara was never found to be abusive, which is a norm in modern cricket,

he considered his field as religion, the massive innings like 402 and 516 versus the top teams in

the world are joy to watch even now. Lara taught me patience and consistency.
