The guests are seated, the music is playing, and the bride is ready
to walk toward her groom. There are few things better than a wedding in Muskoka… that is, as long as mosquitoes don’t crash the party.
“Mosquitoes are a problem in Muskoka from spring right through to September,” says Jordan Lavin, Chief Operating Officer with Mosquito.Buzz. “But they’re something you don’t have to live with, especially at an important event like a wedding, or a special gathering.”
Muskoka mosquitoes Anyone who travels between cottage country and the city will know there’s one major difference when it comes to
the summer air: mosquitoes. But why are mosquitoes so drawn to our northern escape?
“It’s a common question,” says Jordan. “And the simple answer is that Muskoka is just a more hospitable place to live, especially for mosquitoes.” Mosquitoes are drawn to cooler, shady and moist regions, which Muskoka has in abundance.
The best way to guard against them, Jordan says, is to make the cottage landscapes a little less hospitable, and treat the property.
“Get rid of standing water,” he advises. “Kids’ toys, tire swings, even water pooling in the bottom of a boat or canoe can be a breeding
ground for mosquitoes. An outdoor fan can help with dining and relaxing areas. Mosquitoes are not great fliers, and a breeze is a challenge for them.”
All-season treatment The Mosquito.Buzz team treats cottages, residences and businesses to guard against the airborne pests.
“Our service is typically for an entire season,” says Jordan. “But many people also call us before a big event to make sure their guests can enjoy the day pest-free. We can effectively control 85 to 90 per cent of mosquitoes for a 20 day stretch.”
The application is done by a licensed mosquito.buzz technician, using only licensed products, and it works almost instantaneously, creating a barrier that will last for over 20 days.
“Before the treatment wears off, we can come back to re-treat the property,” says Jordan. “That way we make
sure there are no gaps in your protection.”
Whether you’re hosting a special event or just want to live without the irritation of mosquitoes, a season-long control regimen can help you and your family stay outside. DS
