TRANSCRIPT
“Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a
testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but
Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the
end.”
Hebrews 3:5,6
Hebrews 3:1-6 is all about the faithfulness of:
(1) Moses(2) Christ
(3) us.
Continuing to be God’s house on earth requires us to hold firm our confidence in our
“hope”.
Being part of God’s house is not automatic
for believers; there are conditions to be
met.
The Kingdom of God“For this you know, that
no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous
man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the
kingdom of Christ and God.”
Ephesians 5:5; 1 Corinthians 5:12,13
The Church of God
“Do you not judge those who are inside? But
those who are outside God judges. Therefore
‘put away from yourselves the evil
person.’"
There is a condition to being in God’s kingdom
- a sinful lifestyle disqualifies a believer
from it.
There is a condition to being in a church of God
– e.g. 1 Corinthians 5 describes a case of a
man who had to be put away for immorality.
“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God
and Savior Jesus Christ”
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which
enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest
forever…”“…there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to
God.”
Titus 2:13; Hebrews 6:19,20; 7:19
Scripture uses “hope” to refer to an assured reality
that is not seen (Hebrews11:1 “faith is the substance of things hoped
for”)The hope in Hebrews 3:6 is not our
future hope of Christ’s return for us.
It is Christ’s presence in the holy place, which gives us the present opportunity
of going into the presence of God where He is.
“…consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession,
Christ Jesus…”
“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed
through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession… …Let us therefore come boldly to
the throne of grace…”
“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to [making confession to] His name.”
Hebrews 3:1; 4:14,16; 13:15
Our “confession” (or “profession”) is what we
believe and state to be true.Holding fast our confession
means to continue to confess what is true about
God & Christ, & to express it to Him sincerely in our
worship
“I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct
yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and
ground of the truth.”
1 Timothy 3:15; 2:3,4
“God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the
truth.”
The house(hold) of God on earth upholds and testifies to the truth
of God.
Therefore it cannot consist of believers holding & practicing
different doctrines or “versions” of that truth.
God desires that all believers become united in their
understanding & practice of His truth.
