Missionary Work?

I’m not saying it is, but…AP:Archaeologist William Saturno

said Tuesday he was awe-struck when he uncovered a Maya mural not seen for nearly two millennia.

Discovered at the San Bartolo site in Guatemala, the mural covers the west wall of a room attached to a pyramid, Saturno said at a briefing.

In brilliant color, the mural tells the Maya story of creation, he said. It was painted about 100 B.C

Another section shows the corn god crowning himself king upon a wooden scaffold, and the final section shows a historic coronation of a Maya king.

Mosiah 130 B.C.7 For the multitude being so

great that king Benjamin could not teach them all within the walls of the temple, therefore he caused a tower to be erected, that thereby his people might hear the words which he should speak unto them.

Heber C. Kimball to Saints in the Nauvoo Temple

“You can not sin so cheap no more.”

The Old Testament…

Reasons NOT to study Old Testament

Reason’s TO Study Old Testament

Brigham Young: " . . . The Bible, when it is understood, is one of the simplest books in the world, for, as far as it is translated correctly, it is nothing but the truth, and in truth there is no mystery save to the ignorant."

“They [the sons of Mosiah] had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God." What Scriptures?

Introduction to Moses 1

Prophet Joseph Smith wrote:“The Lord, who well knew our infantile

and delicate situation, vouchsafed for a us a supply of strength, and granted us ‘line upon line of knowledge- here a little and there a little,’ of which the following was a precious morsel”

(History of the Church, 1:98)

Moses 1

Moses3 And God spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I am the Lord God Almighty, and Endless is my name…4 … I will show thee the workmanship of mine hands…8 And it came to pass that Moses looked, and beheld the world upon which he was created… and all the children of men which are, and which were created

EnochMoses 7: 35 Behold, I am God; Man of Holiness is my name; Man of Counsel is my name; and Endless and Eternal is my name…

32 The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands

Joseph SmithD&C 19: 10 For, behold, the mystery of godliness, how great is it! For, behold, I am endless,

D&C 76:12 By the power of the Spirit our eyes were opened … so as to see and understand the things of God—50 And again we bear record… concerning them who shall come forth in the resurrection of the just

Elder Jeffrey Holland

But Moses' message to you today is, "Don't let your guard down." Don't assume that a great revelation, some marvelous illuminating moment, or the opening of an inspired path is the end of it. Remember, it isn't over until it's over.

What happened to Moses next, after his revelatory moment, would be ludicrous if it were not so dangerous and so absolutely true to form. In an effort to continue his opposition, in his unfailing effort to get his licks in later if not sooner, Lucifer appeared and shouted in equal portions of anger and petulance after God had revealed himself to the prophet, (Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence, BYU Devotional, 1999)

Moses 113 Moses looked upon Satan and said: Who art thou? . . .

where is thy glory, that I should worship thee?

For behold, I could not look upon God, except his glory should come upon me. . . . But I can look upon thee in the natural man. . . .

. . . Where is thy glory, for it is darkness unto me? And I can judge between thee and God. . . .

Get thee hence, Satan; deceive me not.

And now, when Moses had said these words, Satan cried with a loud voice, and ranted upon the earth, and commanded, saying: I am the Only Begotten, worship me.

And it came to pass that Moses began to fear exceedingly; and as he began to fear, he saw the bitterness of hell. Nevertheless, calling upon God [the very phrase used by Joseph Smith], he received strength

Elder Holland Cont I wish to encourage every one of you

today regarding opposition that so often comes after enlightened decisions have been made, after moments of revelation and conviction have given us a peace and an assurance we thought we would never lose.

In his letter to the Hebrews, the Apostle Paul was trying to encourage new members who had just joined the Church, who undoubtedly had had spiritual experiences and had received the pure light of testimony, only to discover that not only had their troubles not ended, but that some of them had only begun.

Question:When you are trying to get a answer

to prayer, what is the difference between a stupid (stuper) of thought and just plain fear about a decision?

Now, the great verse…

“For behold, this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. (Moses 1:39)

Question: what question from Moses prompted this wonderful statement from the Lord?

The Question?30 And it came to pass that Moses called upon

God, saying: Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them?

40 And now, Moses, my son, I will speak unto thee concerning this earth upon which thou standest; and thou shalt write the things which I shall speak.

41 And in a day when the children of men shall esteem my words as naught and take many of them from the book which thou shalt write, behold, I will raise up another like unto thee; and they shall be had again among the children of men—among as many as shall believe

Speaking of Moses 1:39

Neal A. Maxwell"Fortunately, God

is preoccupied with His children. We (and what we may become) are His work and glory. All that He does is for our benefit.

As George MacDonald said of God, 'He lays no plans irrespective of His children.'

President Gordon B. Hinckley:

"We are here to assist our Father in His work and His glory, 'to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man' (Moses 1:39).

Your obligation is as serious in your sphere of responsibility as is my obligation in my sphere. No calling in this church is small or of little consequence. All of us in the pursuit of our duty touch the lives of others.
