INTRODUCTION1. HISTORY
5
Moser Baer India was founded in New Delhi in 1983 as a Time Recorder unit in technical
collaboration with Maruzen Corporation, Japan and Moser Baer Sumiswald, Switzerland.
In 1988, Moser Baer India moved into the data storage industry by commencing
manufacturing of 5.25-inch Floppy Diskettes. By 1993, it graduated to manufacturing
3.5-inch Micro Floppy Diskettes (MFD).
In 1999, Moser Baer India set up a 150-million unit capacity plant to manufacture
Recordable Compact Disks (CD-Rs) and Recordable Digital Versatile Disks (DVD-Rs).
The strategy for the optical media project was identical to what had successfully been
implemented in the diskette business - creating a facility that matched global standards in
terms of size, technology, quality, product flexibility and process integration. The
company is today the only large Indian manufacturer of magnetic and optical media data
storage products, exporting approximately 85 percent of its production.
Since inception, Moser Baer has always endeavored to create its space in the international
market. Aiding the company in its efforts has been a carefully-planned and sustainable
business model - low costs, high margins, high profits, reinvestment and capacity growth.
Along the way, deep relationships have been forged with leading OEMs, with the result
that today there are hardly any global technology brands in the optical media segment
that Moser Baer is not associated with.
In 2006, the company announced its foray into the Photovoltaic and Home Entertainment
businesses.

TEAM
A team comprises a group of people or animals linked in a common purpose. Teams are
especially appropriate for conducting tasks that are high in complexity and have many
interdependent subtasks.
A group in itself does not necessarily constitute a team. Teams normally have members
with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which
allows each member to maximize his or her strengths and minimize his or her
weaknesses.
22
TEAM EFFECTIVENESS
Team effectiveness refers to the system of getting people in a company or institution to
work together effectively. The idea behind team effectiveness is that a group of people
working together can achieve much more than if the individuals of the team were
working on their own. Team effectiveness is determined by a number of factors, such as-
The right mix of skills. Team effectiveness depends in part on bringing together
people who have different skills that somehow complement each other. This can
mean different technical abilities or communication skills. In fact, teaming up
people who share the exact same characteristics is often a recipe for disaster.
Team effectiveness depends on people taking on different roles in a group setting.
If there is no agreement on who does what in the group, it is unlikely that the team
will prosper.
The right motivation. Team effectiveness is directly linked to the interest that
the group has on the project. If the job is too easy or too difficult, or if the rewards
for achieving the end result do not seem worth the effort, the team may end up
working half-heartedly in the project. The task should also have a clear outcome.
Working towards a specific goal enhances team effectiveness significantly.
The ability to solve conflicts without compromising the quality of the project.
Team work has one major downfall. Sometimes groups end up making decisions
they know are not in the best interest of the project, just so they can keep the
process moving. Conflict is innate to any work done in groups, and should be
taken as part of the challenge rather than as something to be avoided by
23
compromising. Team effectiveness should be increased, not compromised,
through conflict.
One way to enhance team effectiveness is to agree beforehand on a code of
conduct. As conflicts arise, it is important to know how to deal with them. What
is allowed and what is not? How will the team deal with disagreements? Is open
discussion favoured or will the group vote on major decisions? Knowing what to
expect and having the plan will make the process of working in group much
easier.
TEAMWORK
Teamwork is defined in Webster's New World Dictionary as "a joint action by a group of
people, in which each person subordinates his or her individual interests and opinions to
the unity and efficiency of the group." This does not mean that the individual is no longer
important; however, it does mean that effective and efficient teamwork goes beyond
individual accomplishments. The most effective teamwork is produced when all the
individuals involved harmonize their contributions and work towards a common goal.
Successful organizations have a mission statement. A mission statement describes your
organization/teams purpose. It captures the qualities that the team wants to develop, what
the teams goals are, and how the team is going to get there. In other words, it is a road
map.
How to improve teamwork?
Teamwork is improved when the group change their behaviour so that performance
improves. It consists of following points.
24
Performance Management
Good teamwork does not necessarily require good interpersonal relationships or
friendships (see an example of good teamwork with poor relationships). Rather, what is
required is behavior that results in better team performance.
Target Behaviors’
The target behaviors vary from team to team. For example, the behaviors’ that lead to
success for the operations room of a nuclear power station are very different to those of a
PR/advertising agency; the former needs to "go by the book", whilst the latter has to be
continually creative.
Current Behaviors’
Current behaviors may be influenced by factors, such as:
The organisational culture
The preferences of team members
Current circumstances
Feedback from people outside the team
And many other factors
Gap Analysis
Once the target and current behaviors’ have been identified, the team needs to work out
how to change their current behaviors’ to be more in line with the target. This involves
assessing the behavioral gap and producing an action plan for the team to implement.
25
Possible example of team work
Joint research using the library.
Group assignment on a specific topic .
Joint presentation to peers
Activities such as young enterprise
Interactive CDs and simulation such as ‘beat the boss’.
Importance of team work-
Whether in the workplace or on the football field, or even amongst members of a
community, effective teamwork can produce incredible results. However, working
successfully as a team is not as easy as it may seem. Effective teamwork certainly does
not just happen automatically; it takes a great deal of hard work and compromise. There
are a number of factors that must be in place to cohere together as a team and work
seamlessly.
Good leadership: Effective leadership is one of the most important components
of good teamwork. The team’s leader should possess the skills to create and
maintain a positive working environment and motivate and inspire the team
members to take a positive approach to work and be highly committed. An
effective team leader will promote a high level of morale and make them feel
supported and valued.
Clear communication: Communication is a vital factor of all interpersonal
interaction and especially that of a team. Team members must be able to articulate
26
their feelings, express plans and goals, share ideas and see each other’s
viewpoints.
Establishing roles: It is absolutely necessary for team members to understand
what their role on the team is, what he/she is responsible for. The team leader can
enable this by defining the purpose in a clear-cut manner in the beginning of the
formation of the team.
Conflict Resolution: Conflicts will arise no matter how well a team functions
together. The best way to counter conflict is to have structured methods of
conflict resolution. Team members should be able to voice their concerns without
fear of offending others. Instead of avoiding conflict issues, a hands-on approach
that resolves them quickly is much better. It is often advised that the team leader
sit with the conflicting parties and help work out their differences without taking
sides and trying to remain objective if possible.
Set a good example: The team leader must set a good example for good
teamwork to come about. In order to keep team members positive and committed
and motivated, the team leader herself/himself needs to exhibit these qualities.
The team looks to the leader for support and guidance so any negativity on the
leader’s part can be disastrous.
COLLABORATION
Collaboration is a recursive process where two or more people or organizations work
together in an intersection of common goals — for example, an intellectual endeavour
that is creative in nature—by sharing knowledge, learning and building consensus. Most
collaboration requires leadership, although the form of leadership can be social within a
27
decentralized and egalitarian group. In particular, teams that work collaboratively can
obtain greater resources, recognition and reward when facing competition for finite
resources. Collaboration is also present in opposing goals exhibiting the notion of
adversarial collaboration, though this is not a common case for using the word.
Structured methods of collaboration encourage introspection of behaviour and
communication. These methods specifically aim to increase the success of teams as they
engage in collaborative problem solving. Forms, rubrics, charts and graphs are useful in
these situations to objectively document personal traits with the goal of improving
performance in current and future projects.
Since the Second World War the term "Collaboration" acquired a very negative meaning
as referring to persons and groups which help a foreign occupier of their country—due to
actual use by people in European countries who worked with and for the Nazi German
occupiers. Linguistically, "collaboration" implies more or less equal partners who work
together—which is obviously not the case when one party is an army of occupation and
the other are people of the occupied country living under the power of this army.
In order to make a distinction, the more specific term Collaborationism is often used for
this phenomenon of collaboration with an occupying army. However, there is no water-
tight distinction; "Collaboration" and "Collaborator", as well as "Collaborationism" and
"Collaborationist", are often used in this pejorative sense—and even more so, the
equivalent terms in French and other languages spoken in countries which experienced
direct Nazi occupation.
28
Importance Of Collaboration
Collaboration can be defined as "coming together to work toward a common vision." The
collaborative process is intended to move participants away from the traditional
definition of power as control or domination and towards a definition that allows for
shared authority. This results in greater achievements than would be attained by one
organization working alone.
TEAM BUILDING
Team building refers to a wide range of activities, usually in a business context, for
improving team performance. Team building is pursued via a variety of practices, and
can range from simple bonding exercises to complex simulations and multi-day team
building retreats designed to develop a team (including group assessment and group-
dynamic games), usually falling somewhere in between. It generally sits within the theory
and practice of organizational development, but can also be applied to sports teams,
school groups, and other contexts. Team building is not to be confused with "team
recreation" that consists of activities for teams that are strictly recreational. Teambuilding
is an important factor in any environment, its focus is to specialize in bringing out the
best in a team to ensure self development, positive communication, leadership skills and
the ability to work closely together as a team to problem solve.
Work environments tend to focus on individuals and personal goals, with reward &
recognition singling out the achievements of individual employees. "How to create
effective teams is a challenge in every organization "Team building can also refer to the
process of selecting or creating a team from scratch.
29
Importance Of Team Building
The method which is widely applied in various organizations is known as team building.
Team building refers to the process of establishing and developing a greater sense of
cooperation and trust between team members. Interactive exercises, team assessments,
and group discussions enable groups to cultivate this greater sense of teamwork.
Needless to say that, the proper functioning and successful development of any company
or organization largely depends on teamwork efficiency. Good team relationships can
make it into a productive group with great morale and motivation. Therefore, team
building activities are aimed at improving communication and collaboration skills within
and between groups of people working together.
As team building has to do with cooperation, bridge building, planning, and effective use
of resources, the benefits team building activities may bring are countless: improvement
in planning skills, problem solving, decision making, time management, friendly
competition, personal confidence, morale, etc.
Team activities help the team in self-assessment which is very important for improving
the ways of further collaboration within the group. Team activities allow for defining the
team’s current strengths and weaknesses, identifying any gap between the desired state
and the actual state, and designing a gap-closure strategy.
30
The Five Teams Every Organization Needs
There are five work teams that every organization needs. I’ve seen many different
approaches to team roles and responsibilities. Different organizations may also group
responsibilities differently. As an example, I asked the safety committee to take on
employee wellness responsibilities in one organization. The team refused, preferring
instead to add environmental responsibilities. With this in mind, these are the five teams I
most frequently recommend.
Leadership Team
Often an organization’s senior managers or department heads, the leadership team is the
group that must pull together to lead your organization. The leadership team is
responsible for the strategic direction of your organization, The leadership team plans,
sets goals, provides guidance to, and manages your organization .Known by different
names in various organizations, the Employee Morale Team plans and carries out events
and activities that build a positive spirit among employees. The team’s responsibilities
can include activities such as hosting employee lunches, planning company picnics, fund
raising for ill employees, and fund raising for philanthropic causes. The team leads the
celebration of company milestones, employee birthdays, and the arrival of new babies.
The team sponsors company sports teams. You can have fun with this team as the team’s
only limit is the imagination of the team members.
Safety And Environmental Team
The team ensures the safety of employees in the work place. The team takes the lead in
safety training, monthly safety talks, and the auditing of housekeeping, safety, and
31
workplace organization. Recycling and environmental policy recommendations and
leadership are provided by the team as well.
Employee Wellness Team
The wellness team focuses on health and fitness for employees. Most popular activities
include walking clubs, running teams, and periodic testing of health issues such as high
blood pressure screening. The wellness team can sponsor whole person wellness
activities such as how to make a budget or lunch and learns about investment products –
not investment advice.
Culture And Communication Team
The team works to define and create the defined company culture necessary for the
success of your organization. The team also fosters two-way communication in your
organization to ensure employee input up the chain of command. The team may sponsor
the monthly newsletter, a weekly company update, quarterly employee satisfaction
surveys, and an employee suggestion process.
Collaborative Skills For Team
Collaborative Skills for Teams provides organizations with the key to collaborative and
effective team building by teaching participants the different roles on a team.
Collaborative skills will demonstrate four different roles, these are as follows:-
communicate,
manage time,
manage priorities, and
32
Work together effectively.
In Collaborative Skills For Teams, Participants Will:
Learn the four different roles within teams, their preferred roles and the diversity
of priorities and preferences of each role in a team.
Understand team project stages and the activities and priorities associated with
each of the four stages.
Understand the challenges and communication breakdowns they may face when
working with others who have different priorities, roles, and talents.
Learn to maximize productivity of team meetings by identifying clear
expectations and understanding how to manage their own priorities and
tendencies.
Explore how team roles interact in meetings and learn effective strategies to be
more effective about managing differences.
Understand their own time-management preferences based on their team roles.
Gain a clearer understanding of how people manage time to become more aware
of how they might be helping and hindering team efforts.
Create personal action plans for strategies to consider when working and
communicating with each of the four roles.

OBJECTIVE OF THE
STUDY34

1. ANALYSIS
Data analysis is one of the most essential stages of the survey, which helps one to draw
proper inferences.
This part of the project is practically based on major issues regarding employee welfare
measures, which were conducted in Moser Baer and are analyzed.
My main aim to analysis this data is to find out the effectiveness of teamwork and
collaboration and problems regarding this in different departments.
I have used excel for analysis the data which has provided me adequate data regarding
my topic.
Compilation of data- According to the rating system which I have used in questionnaire I
compile the data in following steps-
In first step I compile the data departmental wise according to their responses
(rating) at each question.
In second step I calculate the overall rating of these responses (rating) comes from
separate departments.
In third step I have taken the all 10 departments together (with their overall rating)
and make pie chart with the help of these overall rating.
46
In the following analysis there are 10 departments with their selected colours.
HR department (navy blue)
IT + Engineering department( maroon colour)
Production (dark green)
JB maintains ( dark purple)
EOU-2 ( sky blue)
Process dept
JB production (navy blue)

equally share on any special achievement.
70
2. RECOMMENDATIONS
On the basis of above findings there are some recommendations from my side.
Try to form an atmosphere of proper communication in different departments
which are lacking in this.
To encourage all the associates (to build good relationship) , provide some new
programs therefore they should feel comfortable to work with their team.
In which departments there no proper sharing of information , should try to know
the week link of that department
Provide some more new innovative games to the associates, which may help in
team building.
At the time of any special achievement, team leader should keep in mind that not
a single team member should leave to get his/her credit.
Organize such kind of programs with the help of which all team members better
understand the concept of team goal. Therefore they can give priority to the team
goal rather than their own (individuals ) goal.

CONCLUSION
74
CONCLUSION
As we all know that how much teamwork and collaboration is important for an
organisation, it is important to make the strong base of any organisation. During this
project I tried to know the current position of the teamwork and collaboration in the
different department of MBIL.
After the analysing the entire department and their teams members I come out with
certain findings and recommendations.
MBIL is a well-reputed organisation, it has very effective teamwork and collaboration in
it’s mostly department. But there also some departments who still need some more
awareness about the importance of teamwork and collaboration. In that departments there
is some personal biasness regarding their work and regarding credit sharing etc. This may
creates some problem for this organisation in the future. Overall everything is good with
all departments.
