February 2017 Commodore’s Report By Mike Barrett No report this month. Chairman of the Board By Charles Krammer No report this month. House By Dino Esposito We would like to take time and address some recent changes being implemented in the restaurant and club as a whole. In order to give members a better understanding of these new policies, we tried to break it down a bit better. 1.) The chit system. When you pay your dues, the restaurant receives notice and your chits are loaded into the system. When you are dining at the restaurant and ready to use the chits, you simply tell the server your last name and you will be asked to sign in order for the chits to be deducted from your account and will be indicated on your receipt. Some Points to keep in mind: You can use your chits for the restaurant only. Chits cannot be used on banquets or other special events. You can use your chits to tip your servers. You can also check the balance of your remaining chits by calling Michael in the restaurant at (718) 885-1596. 2.) Booking tickets and reservations for events This policy will help in making the planning and execution of events to be easy and very cost-effective. Taking reservations is time- consuming and inconvenient to members who have to come and pay in person. Moving forward, all reservations and tickets will be purchased on-line at a separate designated website: www.mybcevent.ticketleap.com Continued on page 2 25 City Island Avenue Bronx, NY 10464 (718) 885-9814 www.morrisybc.com Meeting Notification No Meeting in February Officers and Board Members Commodore Mike Barrett Vice Commodore Gene Valesio Rear Commodore Paul Laddomada Treasurer Elliott Manders Assistant Treasurer Cathy McCandless Corresponding Secretary Cathy Henry Financial Secretary June Henry Recording Secretary Pat Napolitano Environmental, Health & Safety Officer Greg Clancy House Secretary Lorenzo Secola Chairman of the Board Charles Krammer Auditing Joe Hanley Beach Bill Whelan Grounds Greg Penny House Dino Esposito Maintenance John Fusco Membership Lorenzo Secola Mooring & Ways Kevin Flynn, Adam Calbo & Joe Kramer Entertainment Committee [email protected] Caterer’s Contact Information (718) 885-1596 Restaurant & Bar Hours Wednesday-Friday 5:00- 10:00 p.m. Saturday 4:00- 10:00 p.m. Sunday 12:00- 9:00 p.m.

Commodore’s Report By Mike Barrett No report this month.

Chairman of the Board By Charles Krammer No report this month.

House By Dino Esposito We would like to take time and address some recent changes being implemented in the restaurant and club as a whole. In order to give members a better understanding of these new policies, we tried to break it down a bit better. 1.) The chit system.

• When you pay your dues, the restaurant receives notice and your chits are loaded into the system. When you are dining at the restaurant and ready to use the chits, you simply tell the server your last name and you will be asked to sign in order for the chits to be deducted from your account and will be indicated on your receipt.

Some Points to keep in mind:

• You can use your chits for the restaurant only. • Chits cannot be used on banquets or other special events. • You can use your chits to tip your servers. • You can also check the balance of your remaining chits by calling

Michael in the restaurant at (718) 885-1596.

2.) Booking tickets and reservations for events

This policy will help in making the planning and execution of events to be easy and very cost-effective. Taking reservations is time-consuming and inconvenient to members who have to come and pay in person. Moving forward, all reservations and tickets will be purchased on-line at a separate designated website: www.mybcevent.ticketleap.com

If, for any reason, you cannot get online to make a reservation for an event, you are encouraged to please call Michael at the restaurant and he will assist you in doing so. Also, canceling tickets for events can be done through the restaurant 3 days prior to an event at a 5% charge. The 5% charge is what the company charges us to do the transaction. Last minute bookings will be taken on some events, but not all, and will be at the discretion of the Board. This policy was created to help us budget for food and staffing, linens, liquor, ordering and so much more. Most importantly, it was designed for the convenience to both the members and the club respectively. Concerns over the pricing of some events have been raised. We ask that you please understand that when prices increase, it is due to necessity. In the past, prices for the events were not covering costs for the club. Please note that all of our pricing for events include: 20% tip, sales tax of .08875%, operations of the kitchen, management, up-keep and food cost for the event. Remember that the minimum wage went up this year and is expected to go up again next year. With all this in mind, the club’s profit is still very low, even at this higher price. The staff tries to post notices for events in a timely manner in order for guests to plan and budget accordingly. It’s important to note some of the bonuses the Morris provides, that other venues may not, such as parking, fun monthly events, a safe place for friends and families to congregate and a breathtaking view. As a membership and a community, we feel it is so important to support the club and its daily operations. It is our hope that you all feel the same. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation and look forward to steering the club in a new promising direction together. Please note that the restaurant and bar will be closed February 13 – 28th.

Financial Secretary By June Henry Bills have been sent to the Membership for the 2017 season. If you did not receive a bill, please notify the office at 718-885-9814. The first half of the bill was due January 31, 2017.

Corresponding Secretary By Cathy Henry This message is for those members still receiving the newsletter via Postal Mail or not receiving emails. I’d like to request that if you have an email address you switch to getting your newsletter by email. You are missing out on many club notifications simply because of the timing on some events/notifications either not making it in time for the printed newsletter, or just being timely announcements that would not be included in the newsletter. Also, for those still getting mail that also get the emails, if I could stop sending you the mail it would save the club some expense. All of the newsletters are available on the club’s website should you need access to them. Website: http://morrisybc.com/members/index.htm user – morris password – member1

Entertainment Committee Hello there. So many things to talk about. First off, please remember that the Morris will be closing for two weeks starting February 13th through February 28th. We will be re-opening on March 1st and there will be a new menu to get us right back into the swing of things. You’ll be happy to know that beef spring rolls are returning, and other delicious new items such as risotto balls with fresh mozzarella and a sizzling 16 oz. rib eye will be amongst the many tasty treats to choose from. My mouth is watering!! Please remember to make reservations when planning on dining in order to assure great service. Don’t forget, you can start using your chits!! Even though winter is upon us, it hasn’t slowed things down at the Morris. The Murder Mystery Night, Super Bowl Sunday, Karaoke and Smooth sounds of Kevin during our Sunday brunch were all a big success!! More fun events to look forward to are the St. Patrick’s Day party on March 18th, Judy Torres Freestyle Night on March 25th, Easter egg hunt and brunch on April 16th, Into Commission Dance on April 29th, Cinco De Mayo on May 5th, and our famous Mother’s Day brunch in May, just to name a few. We are also working on organizing a Spring Craft Fair in May and will be sure to keep you posted. Most importantly, we have a new system in place to purchase tickets for events. This system will make events a breeze to organize and is so convenient for the members. You will be able to click and pay to make reservations and buy your tickets to every function at the Morris. So easy!!!! Simply go to www.mybcevent.ticketleap.com. If you have any difficulty going on line to use the new system, call Michael in the restaurant and he will gladly assist you (718) 885-1596. Lastly, if you are able to do some work in or around the building during the two weeks that we are closed, it would be greatly appreciated. Any task, big or small, will help in maintaining and beautifying our building. You can email John Fusco, the Maintenance board of director, at [email protected] to make any necessary arrangements. Have a fabulous Valentine’s Day!!
