The1% annual chance flood(100-yearflood), alsoknown as the base flood,is the flood that has a1%chance ofbeing equaledor exceededin anygiven year. The Special Flood Hazard Area is the

area subjectto floodingby the 1%annual chanceflood.Areas of Special FloodHazard include Zones  A, AE, AH,AO, AR,A99, V,and VE. The Base FloodElevation is the water-surfaceelevation ofthe1%annual chance flood.

ZONEA NoBase Flood Elevations determined.

ZONEAE BaseFlood Elevationsdetermined.

ZONEAH Flood depths of 1 to3 feet(usually areasof ponding);Base FloodElevationsdetermined.

ZONEAO Flooddepths of1to 3feet (usually sheetflow onsloping terrain);average depthsdetermined.For areasofalluvial fanflooding,velocities alsodetermined.

ZONEAR Special FloodHazard Areaformerly protected fromthe 1% annual chance floodbyaf loodcontrolsystemthatwassubsequentlydecertif ied. ZoneARindicatesthat

the formerflood control systemis being restoredto provide protectionfrom the1%annual chance orgreaterflood.

ZONEA99  Areasto be protectedfrom1% annual chancef lood eventby a Federalf loodprotectionsystemunder construction;noBase FloodElevationsdetermined.

ZONEV Coastal floodzone withvelocity hazard(wave action);no Base FloodElevationsdetermined.

ZONEVE Coastal flood zone with velocity hazard (wave action); Base Flood Elevationsdetermined.

FLOODWAY AREAS IN ZONE AE

Thefloodwayis the channel ofa streamplus any adjacent floodplainareasthat must bekept free of encroachment sothat the 1%annual chanceflood canbe carriedwithout substantial increasesinfloodheights.

NOTES TO USERS

This map is for usein administeringthe NationalFlood Insurance Program. It doesnotnecessarily identify all areas subject to flooding, particularly from localdrainagesources of smallsize. The community map repository should beconsulted forpossible updated or additionalfloodhazard information.

To obtain more detailed information in areas where Base Flood Elevations (BFEs)

and/or floodways havebeen determined, users areencouraged toconsultthe FloodProfiles and Floodway Data and/or Summary of Stillwater Elevations tablescontained within the FloodInsurance Study (FIS)reportthat accompanies thisFIRM.Users should beaware thatBFEsshown on the FIRM represent roundedwhole-footelevations. These BFEs are intended forflood insurance rating purposes only andshould not be used as the sole sourceof floodelevation information. Accordingly, floodelevation data presentedin the FIS reportshould be utilized in conjunction withtheFIRM forpurposes of construction and/or floodplainmanagement.

CoastalBase Flood Elevations shown on this map apply onlylandward of 0.0'North American VerticalDatum of1988 (NAVD 88). Users ofthis FIRM shouldbeaware thatcoastal flood elevations are also provided in the Summary ofStillwaterElevationstable in the Flood InsuranceStudy reportfor thisjurisdiction. Elevationsshown inthe Summary ofStillwater Elevations table should be used forconstructionand/orfloodplain management purposes when they are higher thanthe elevationsshown on thisFIRM.

Boundaries of the floodways were computed at cross sections and interpolatedbetweencross sections. The floodways were based on hydraulicconsiderationswithregard to requirements of theNational Flood Insurance Program. Floodway widthsand other pertinent floodway dataare providedin the Flood InsuranceStudy reportforthis jurisdiction.

Certain areas not in SpecialFlood HazardAreas may be protected by flood controlstructures. Refer to Section 2.4 "Flood Protection Measures" of the FloodInsurance Study reportforinformation on flood control structures forthis jurisdiction.

The projection usedin the preparation of this mapwas State Plane New JerseyFIPS 2900. The horizontaldatum was NAD83,GRS1980 spheroid. Differences indatum, spheroid, projectionor State Planezones used inthe productionof FIRMsfor

adjacent jurisdictions may result in slightpo sitional differences in map featuresacrossjurisdictionboundaries. Thesedifferencesdo notaffectthe accuracyof thisFIRM.

Flood elevations on this map are referencedto the NorthAmerican VerticalDatum of1988. These flood elevations must be compared to structure andground elevationsreferenced to the same vertical datum. This map reflectsmore detailedand up-to-date stream channelconfigurationsthan those shown on the previous FIRM forthis jurisdiction. The floodplains andfloodways that were transferred from the previousFIRM may have been adjusted toconform tothese new stream channelconfigurations. As a result, the Flood Profilesand Floodway Data tables in the Flood Insurance Study report (which contains

authoritativehydraulic data) may reflectstream channel distances thatdiffer fromwhatisshownon thismap.
