In the big wide world of youth ministry there are many yearly events, especially in the
life of Morris Chapel, that invoke feelings of joy and excitement. One such event is the
yearly summer youth mission trip. Students look forward to these opportunities to work,
bond, worship, and have fun. In many ways, we work our way up to those moments
throughout the entire year. We engage the students in Bible study and local missions
work. We challenge them to strengthen their walk with God and we motivate them to
reach out in the community. And then in the heat of the summer, we pack them in tight
vehicles and transport them to different counties and give them a paint brush or a
hammer. And they work. And they sweat. And they are sleep-deprived. But they come
home, different. They come home with a new perspective of what it means to love,
grow, and go.
This summer we have two groups of students and adults that will be travelling away
from the comforts of home to work in the sweltering summer heat all in the name of
service and love.
High School Missions- CCC- July 6 through July 12
Middle School Missions- HHMC- July 13 through July 18
Already this year the congregation has shown tremendous support for our students and
their efforts to raise funds for this trip and other activities. But the opportunity that you
have now is to become a part of the missions team itself. “Sponsor a Youth” is a unique
way to be an active participant in the work that our students and adult chaperones will
be doing. It’s very simple. Visit one of the two “Sponsor a Youth” presentation boards
located outside of the FLC and Sanctuary and pick up a sponsorship envelope and
sponsor card. The instructions are simple. We will need your name, address, and the
type of sponsorship you are committing to whether it is financial or prayer support.
Once you have filled that information out, you can place that sponsor card in its
envelope and place it in the offering plate or church office.
All sponsors will be invited to attend a special dinner on Saturday, August 16th to hear
and see a preview of what the students did, saw, and learned in the course of their week
of service.
We have a goal of 50 financial sponsors and 50 prayer sponsors. Your assistance in
reaching this goal would be greatly appreciated!
Summer missions is about more than just going away for a week of fun. It’s about
teaching students what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We invite you to be a
part of partnering with that work.
Many blessings,
Katie Gaffner

Children’s Ministry
During VBS, each child will be making a “Blessing Bag for the Homeless” at the Missions Station to be passed out at the Bethesda Center in August by the Children’s Department. One item that we are in need of for each bag are washcloths. We would like to ask families to consider donating new, inexpensive washcloths to this mission project. They can be placed in a box outside Sam’s door labeled “VBS Washcloths.” We are anticipating to have over 100 kids this year at VBS. Thanks for all you do to support the mission work of our children!
We are also looking for VBS Prayer Warriors to pray for before and during VBS, which is June 22-26. All you need to do is during your prayer time to pray for our volunteers and kids who will be attending. That everyone who encounters our VBS will know the love Christ has for them, that Jesus’ love is one of a kind, an unconditional kind!
Three easy steps…
1) If you are interested please go to our website, www.morrischapel.org, on the homepage click the “click here button to pre-register your child” which is to-wards the bottom of the page.
2) You will be redirected to the Morris Chapel Weird Animals webpage,
click on “Volunteer Registration”
3) Click on “apply” next to Prayer Warrior and fill out the form.
That’s it and once you have registered, I will send you a little prayer card
reminder…if you do not have access to the internet, just let me know you are interested.
Thanks in advance,
Sam
Sponsor a Youth!! Summer missions aren't just for our middle school and high
school students. You can be a part of the youth summer missions by financially and prayerfully sponsoring our students. All sponsors will be treated to a special Sponsorship Dinner on Saturday, August 16th. You can find out how to sponsor our students by visiting the presentation boards found outside of both the FLC and the Sanctuary during the month of May.

Clothes for a journey
Girl Scout Gold Award Project by Sarah Joyce
Homeless teenagers not having adequate clothing for school and work is a
problem that could be easily remedied. I have been around homeless
teenagers and have heard their stories. It really bothers me that they have to
worry about not having enough clothes to wear when the thought of running
out of clothes never crosses my mind because I have so many clothes.
Clothing is a basic need and should not be something that teenagers should
have to worry about. I want to help them get the clothes they need to have a
more successful life.
Can you help?
How? · Donations of nice clean clothes that teenagers can wear
· Volunteers to help sort clothes and facilitate closet
Why? · Help achieve Girl Scout Gold Award
· To help homeless teenagers in the community
· Strengthen the bond between the church and the community

Thank You!
Welcome to the Morris Chapel Family We welcome a new couple to the membership of the Morris Chapel
family of God. We are so blessed that have chosen to unite with us.
Please welcome them with extravagant hospitality.
Dan & Marie Bowen joined Morris Chapel from another local United Methodist Church
during the 11am worship service on May 18th. They participate in the Bill Vanhoy/Ron
Williams Sunday School Class. Dan is retired from Duke Energy where he worked with
our members Robert Butler and Ralph Long. He is an outdoorsman. Marie has gotten
involved with our bazaar food ministry with chicken pie making and she looks forward
to learning ins and outs of canning of green beans! They live at 185 Kerner Knoll Drive
in Kernersville.
We are blessed that the Lord is adding to our number. Please continue to invite friends,
relatives, acquaintances, and neighbors to experience the joy and goodness of God
through Morris Chapel. Anyone interested in joining the membership of Morris Chapel
is invited to speak with Pastor Dan.

Music Notes Del Curling
Director of Music Ministries
Children’s Music News
The Sunshine Kids and Rainbow Connection children’s choirs did an amazingly wonderful job at
singing for the Mother’s Day service. They are now working on music to present at the 11am
service on Father’s Day (June 15th). Only two practices are left to work on their music before the
summer break—Wednesday, May 28th and Wednesday, June 11th. The two choirs normally meet
from 6:30 to 7pm, though the older children will stay until about 7:15 on June 11th to work on their
piece with the adult men.
Fathers/Grandfathers of the elementary age choir members are invited to join the children and the
men of the choir in presenting their piece on Father’s Day—come to their practice from 6:30 to
7:15 on Wednesday, June 11th if you would like to join in.
Parents of elementary age choir—the song they will be singing on Father’s Day is the second song
on the CDs they received last week—please have them listening and learning.
An accompanist is needed for the older children’s choir—if you are reasonably proficient on the
piano and are willing to volunteer some time to work with our children to learn and share the love
of Christian music, please contact Del.
Youth Music News Youth girls/ladies—I would like to have the youth ladies sing a piece at the 11am service on June
1st 11am recognizing our graduates. Anyone interested, please drop an email to Del know of your
interest—we will have to find some practice time to work on this between now and June 1st.
Adult Music News
The adult Chancel Choir meets every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 pm in the choir room. We are
presently working on special music for Graduation and Confirmation Sundays and Father’s Day.
Childcare is now provided during the choir practice time, coordinated by Sam.
Chancel Choir will continue to practice on Wednesdays through the summer, though will take an
occasional break—no practice on June 25th and July 2nd.
The Men’s Chorus continues to meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings at 7pm—all men of
MCUMC are invited to join in this time of music and fellowship. The Men will next be leading in
worship on Memorial Day weekend (May 25th).
As noted in the children’s section above, all Fathers/Grandfathers of children in the elementary
age children’s choir are invited to join the men of the choirs on the children’s piece in the 11am
service on June 15th. If interested, come to the choir room for the children’s choir practice on June
11th from 6:30 to 7:15pm.
Miscellaneous
Anyone wishing to participate in worship by presenting a vocal or instrumental solo or small ensemble
piece in the coming weeks/months at one or more of the worship services, please contact Del—others are
always encouraged to participate/lead musically in worship, even if unable to commit to a group that
meets regularly.
