GIVING THANKS should be the way we live our lives day by day throughout the year. GIVING THANKS should be the mind-set we have as God’s children every day. GIVING THANKS should certainly be evident in our lives as we go from day to day in our homes, in our schools, where we work, and wherever we go throughout our community. And of course, I want to be even more specific: GIVING THANKS is expressing our appreciation and gratitude to GOD THE HEAVENLY FATHER, JESUS CHRIST THE SON, and THE HOLY SPIRIT! I am certainly not saying we should never express appreciation to other people, but instead that we take time to share verbally with others what God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit have done and are doing in our lives! Above all . . . do your very best to truly GIVE THANKS! THANK YOU! Susan and I THANK GOD FOR YOU, the Congregation of First Baptist Church, Newton, for the many ways you have blessed our lives throughout the past year. Your prayers, your words of encouragement, your tangible gifts, and your expressions of love are very much appreciated. WE LOVE YOU! White Elephant Christmas Party for youth!

How time flies! As I write this article, we are exactly one week away from Thanksgiving! How did it get here so quickly? Whether we are ready for it or not, the holiday season is upon us. And at Thanksgiving, we often strive to count our blessings so we can thank God for what He has done in our lives throughout the year. As I "count my blessings" and attempt to "name them one by one," I want you to know how thankful Paige and I are that we are a part of FBC Newton. Being a part of this church family is one of the blessings that we definitely place high on our "Thank You List" to God. We love you and love how we are a church family that loves God, loves one another, and loves to serve Him. One of the ways we serve Him each year is through our giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We will begin to promote the LMCO this week and throughout all of December. For 172 years, Southern Baptist churches have sent missionaries to the unreached people groups who are scattered across the globe. Our collective work as a denomination that cares about missions has built a foundation that continues to shape the International Mission Board's direction. This Christmas season, we again get to be a continuing part of that legacy by participating in the LMCO to support our IMB missionaries. Together we financially support more than 4,000 Southern Baptist missionaries that share the gospel all over the world. Last year, our church donated $15,500 for our LMCO, and this year we have set a goal of $20,000. Our giving to the LMCO enables our missionaries to be sent out to make disciples and multiply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of our great God. Prayerfully consider how you can participate in the LMCO this year. And thank you in advance for giving to SBC Missions so that we can take the light and love of Jesus into dark places all over the world.

I Love You! --Brian
