Morehall Avenue / Chart Road, Folkestone: One way Improvement Scheme

Background information Sheet Where will the work take place? Morehall Avenue, Chart Road Inc Coomb Road & Trimworth Road, Folkestone.

Why do we want to carry out this work?

The roads in this area are often heavily parked resulting in a relatively narrow single running lane for traffic. The nature of the area means it is often difficult for drivers to find suitable passing places. The existing road system currently experiences congestion and operational difficulty at peak times, this is in part due to the number of parents dropping their children at Morehall Primary School.

Following concerns raised by local residents and District Councillors, County Councillor Tim Prater has requested that KHS put in place a one way system funded through his own Member Highway Fund allocation. This would ensure that traffic is able to flow more freely without meeting oncoming traffic, thus removing the necessity for vehicles to reverse long distances.

What does this scheme involve?

This scheme (as shown on the plan on the reverse of this page) involves:

Chart Road one way eastbound in the direction of Trimworth Road Morehall Avenue one way westbound in the direction of Surrenden Road Coombe Road one way northbound in the direction of Chart Road Trimworth Road one way southbound in the direction of Cheriton Road
