TECH TALKHave you ever wondered what happens to the newspapers that the Bellevue University Library subscribes to after a few

months? One of our top priorities is to preserve the articles that refer to the staff and students of Bellevue University. Then, werecycle whatever part of the paper that we do not use.

First of all, we keep a few papers that we subscribe to out for everyone to view during the week; then the newspapers are stored in theTechnical Services area for two months. The reason for this is because there are some papers, such as the Wall Street Journal, that offer graphs orcharts only in the print version and not in the on-line subscription and so we keep the print until the microfilm arrives. If you are interested inlooking at these papers, then please ask someone at the Circulation or Reference desk and they will be happy to assist you.

If you are looking for past articles about Bellevue University, then you have come to the right place. The Technical Services departmenthas clipped, scanned, and labeled several articles and are storing them digitally. Currently, the Bellevue Leader newspaper is the only newspaper thathas given us permission to digitize the articles.

This endeavor to store the articles digitally is a relatively new project for the Technical Services team. We have about 35 articles from theBellevue Leader that you can view through the "Digital Archives" link on the left-hand side of the library's web page. You can still find print articlesfrom several local papers in the library and they are located in the Special Collection area of the Archives located near the Technical Services offices.

Another way to find newspapers electronically is by going to the library's home page and using our Journal Holdings. Once you locate anewspaper we subscribe to, then you can search that particular newspaper for articles about Bellevue University.

Answer: Thank you for suggesting that the library purchase a color printer. I am happy to announce that we now have a color printer availableto students which is located at the reference desk. If students would like to print materials in color, they can bring their flash drive to thereference desk and the librarian on duty would be more than happy to assist. If you do not have a flash drive, the library will provide one, or youcan email your document to libnu:[email protected]. In addition, there is no charge for this service -- it is provided as another value-addedfeature available at your library.
