PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 561 - 6 Sep 2008 More employers are looking to consumer-driven health plans and employee wellness programmes in these times of rising healthcare costs, according to a US survey. The 2008 United Benefit Advisors Health Plan Survey of 18 019 health plans sponsored by 12 860 employers in the US found that consumer- driven health plans increased by 43% from 2007 and now account for almost 13% of all plans offered by employers. The proportion of employees enrolled in these plans nearly doubled, from 6% in 2007 to 11.2% this year. In addition, more employers are recognising the value of preventing illness rather than treating it and are increasingly offering wellness programmes to their employees, with 9.8% offering programmes in 2008 compared to 7.4% in 2007.
