To date, over 76 million meals have

been provided by 300,000 volunteer workers. At therecent St. Mary s College Anniversary Day, thestudents packed 10,000 meals for delivery to povertyareas. With the help of Sean Rosas, the program manager ofStop Hunger Now, Doug Damaschino demonstratedhow a bag could be filled with soy products, rice, driedvegetables and vitamins which would provide 6 mealsfor the cost of about 25 cents. The speaker suggested various ways that Rotariansand Rotary Clubs can become involved in reducing

world hunger, and saving lives of those who have littlehope of an education or living productive lives. Weappreciated the interesting and well prepared program.

EDITORIAL COMMENTThe basic principle of Rotary is just an ideal the idealof friendly service. All of this starts at the weekly meeting

of some 34,000 Rotary Clubs, where a friendly smile, a

warm hand clasp or just a listening ear opens the door to

Rotary friendship. It is this common denominator of

friendship which brings together Rotarians of so manylanguages, nations and races, of different religious and

political beliefs, and representing many customs and

traditions that unites us in one theme, Service Above

    Self.

Our founder, Paul Harris, often said the Rotary

friendship begins with one basic condition, tolerance . Itis a privilege to be a part of the great worldwide

movement of Rotary International which combines

    friendship and service.
