It is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi

Humayu died in 1556 & his widow Hamida banu begum commenced the construction of his tomb in 1569, 14 years after his death.

Designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, persian architect. Located in Nizamuddin east, Delhi

The tomb was constructed at a cost of 15lakh rupees(1.5 million)

• First Structure to use red sandstone at such a scale

• Tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993

• First Mughal Garden in India

• Humayun’s tomb came into existence during the first war of indian independence in 1857 when the uprising failed, Bahadur shah ||, the last mughal emperor, took refuge in this tomb.

Ceremonial & political centre of Mughal Gvt.

On independence day the prime minister hoists the national flag at the main gate of the fort & delivers a nationally-braodcast speech from its ramparts.

In 1638 Shahajan transferred his capital from Agra to Delhi & laid the foundation of Shahjahanabad, the seventh city of Delhi

It was the work of one hand. It is an irregular octagon with 2 long sides on east & west.

It has 2 main gates one on west & other on south, called Lahori Delhi respectively.

The fort has become one of the most sought after tourst place destination in modern time.

Oldest fort among all the forts in Delhi

Rebuilt by the Afghan King Sher Shah Suri on the same site.

Purana Quila was still incomplete at sher shah suri’s death in 1545, & perhaps completed by his son Islam shah or humayun. It is not certain which parts was built by whom.

Located on the legendary site of indraprastha.

Purana quila lay on the bank of yamuna.

It is the venue for spectacular sound & light show held every evening.

The purpose of building is not very certain.

It may have been built as resort by sher shah suri but it is believed to have been used as library by humayun from the steps of which he fell down & ultimately met his end.

Located in the modern city of new delhi.

Built by Maharaja Jai Singh || of jaipur as he was given by Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah the task of revising the calendar & astronomical tables.

There is a plaque fixed on of the structures in JantarMantar, that was placed in 1910 mistakenly dating the construction year to the 1710. But later on research shows that it was built in 1724.

Completed in 1724, the Delhi Jantar Mantar had decayed considerably by 1867.

It is the 2nd tallest minar(73 meters) in India after Minar-E-Fateh at chhapr chiri at Anandpur Sahib which stands 100 meters tall.

It is an ancient islamic Monument, inscribed with Arabic Inscriptions.

Made of red sandstone & marble. The stairs of the tower has 379 steps.

Construction was started in 1192 by Qutb-ud-din Aibik & was carried on by his successor, Iltutmish.

Inscriptions on it reveals about the construction on it.

The Minar was used as a watch tower.

It was damaged by earthquakes & lightnings but has been repaired by several rulers.
