I asked the owner, Jeanette Lane, some questions. These are her responses:

I have been here, in the Monty Village for 14 years.

My daughter worked here. She’s been at this salon for 20 years, so we bought the shop.

We like the Monty Village because it has a friendly atmosphere and it is like a little village and it is a nice group of shops.

At the moment we have 11 staff. Most of them are part time.

The question about how many customers we get is a hard one. Our days vary from a 7 ½ hour day to a 10 hour day. Each girl possibly does 8 clients each.

What I enjoy most about the job, besides doing hair, is talking to people and working with my daughters.

The owner of “Echo” shares his story with us .

We’ve been here 10 years. We came here in October of 2001.

We chose Monty Village because we wanted a destination shopping complex not a plaza. A place were people would come to especially.

We chose Monty Village because it is like a community, it is a friendly meeting place. The shops are all specialists.

The amount of staff we have on varies. Some days, like Friday, Saturday and Sunday, our busy days, we have 4 or 5 staff. The other days we will have 2 staff.

The amount of customers is hard to count. On average we have about 360 customers a week. On Sunday we are only open for 3 1/2 hours.

My favourite part of the job is the balloons! Being creative and making people smile.

• In what ways is this local community important to the local community?

It is important because the community loves the atmosphere in the village, the friendly people and the wonderful shops. It is a close community.

• Why is this place important to you and your family?

Friendly place to visit and shop, close to home, village “feel”
