Monthly Newsletter October 2017 From the Manager’s Desk: Dear Residents, There are just a few items that I would like to remind you of all this issue. First, it has recently come to my attention that we have a few more rentals in the community than have been reported. Please note that the governing documents for our community require all owners to notify management if your home is being leased. We also will need a copy of the lease agreement for our records, along with contact information for you should any issues arise with your home. No home may be leased for a period of less than one year. Secondly, please be reminded that the use of metal detectors outside of your own property are prohibited, and any artifacts found on the Ponds land (your lot included) are the Property of the State of South Carolina as the Ponds is a historical landmark. All artifacts found on site must be turned into the State of South Carolina and may then be displayed at the Ponds. Lastly, the pools in both Cresswind and The Ponds will remain open through October 31 st so that you may enjoy this beautiful warm weather for a few more weeks. Birds of Prey The Amphitheater October 8, 2017 2pm to 4pm This presentation, by the staff of the Avian Conservation Center/Center for Birds of Prey, incorporates three live species of birds from a global perspective including one of the more resourceful, a Harris’ hawk, one of the stealthiest, an owl, and one of the most intelligent, a black vulture.

Archeology at The Ponds The Pavilion October 15, 2017 2pm to 4pm Brockington began conducting archaeological investigations at The Ponds Plantation in 1995. Over the past twenty years, these investigations have uncovered numerous archaeological discoveries documenting a wide range of sites from Native American encampments to the ruins of the seventeenth century Andrew Percival plantation. The historic property encompasses over 2,000 acres of wilderness along an elevated bluff that overlooks the headwaters of the Ashley River. Because of the access to the fresh water, the available landscape has been called a home for inhabitants for thousands of years. This talk presents a closer examination of the materials, features, and overall archaeological footprint that has been left behind.

RSVP by October 11th*

Our Clubs: Fishing Club: As winter approaches, fishing techniques must be adjusted. Trolling works but your choice of lures and colors will need to change. I suggest frequent changing of lures to find what works. 3/8 oz inline spinners are my preference. Plastic worms ALWAYS work. It's a time proven method for bass. For catfish, chicken livers will guarantee success. Use the same method for winter fishing as you do in summer.

From the Lifestyle Desk: Dear Residents, Happy October everyone! October is one of our favorite months even though I know, weather wise, it is going to be quite different this year. We are settling in and really enjoying life in SC. Like many of you, we are still trying to find good spots for dinner, places to explore and of course ways to meet our neighbors. If you have found some great spots and would like to share, I would love to hear from you. Each month in my newsletter, we would love to include a page to help news residents and people new to the area get started! We have some exciting events happening this month! There will be opportunities for children to touch a variety of vehicles: police cars, tanks, bulldozers, etc. There will be a pet pageant show for your pets to participate in. The price is $5 (to be paid the day of the event) and is of course pet friendly! Birds of Prey on October 8th is not to be missed!
